I put a simple stop to those requests. I tell them I understand they
are being told to offer the warranty but doing so makes it sound as if
they do not have faith that the product will last more than year. I then
thank for the offer and politely say that if the continue to press the
issue I will leave without buying the product.

Symatec is FAMOUS for not honoring their "rebates".

I always just say that "I am able to self insure against future failures.
So far I have been lucky and am very far ahead of the game as the only
failure I have had was in under 90 days on a manufacturers 1 year
warrantee." They seem to quickly get the message that it is a waste of
their time to continue as most have learned to not pursue hopeless cases.
Some are even smart enough to realize and appreciate that you have just
helped them not waste their time.

Oh by the way, it happens to be true. If your cost structure is such that
you can not take the risk of the future failure then you should buy the
insurance. But that is true of all insurance. So I do have insurance
on truly big ticket items like real estate and accident liability.

I don't spend all that time explaining, I just say "No, thanks." I haven't
had anyone argue with me in recent memory. In a case such as the OP
described, I'd simply have told them to cancel the entire sale. There are
very few things I can't purchase somewhere else, and in fact I have quite a
list of stores that have pissed me off at one time or another and now "no
longer exist" at all as far as I'm concerned. Probably cuts down on my
discretionary spending, actually <g>.

I have sent away for half a dozen rebates -- the last one perhaps a
year ago -- and have yet to receive a single check.

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Lebanon awoke a republic without a president
Saturday amid mounting worries over a power vacuum that has
intensified the nation's yearlong political turmoil.

The capital was calm and shops opened for business as usual the
morning after a tumultuous day that saw President Emile Lahoud depart
without a successor after announcing he was handing over security
powers to the army.

Lahoud's final announcement saying the country is in a "state of
emergency" was rejected by the rival, pro-Western Cabinet of Prime
Minister Fuad Saniora.

The government rejection created fresh confusion in an already
unsettled situation, which many Lebanese fear could explode into
violence between supporters of Saniora's government and the pro-Syria
opposition led by the Shiite militant group Hezbollah.

"Lahoud's term ends in a republic without a president," read the
headline of Lebanon's leading An-Nahar newspaper. Another daily, Al-
Balad, printed an empty photo frame on its front page, symbolizing the
political vacuum.

The departure of Lahoud, a staunch ally of the Syrian regime during
his nine years in office, was a long-sought goal of the government
installed by parliament's anti-Syria majority, which has been trying
to put one of its own in the presidency.

Hezbollah and other opposition groups have blocked legislators from
electing a new president by boycotting ballot sessions, leaving
parliament without the required quorum.

The fight has put Lebanon into dangerous, unknown territory: Both
sides are locked in bitter recriminations, accusing the other of
breaking the constitution, and they are nowhere near a compromise on a
candidate to become head of state.

The army command refused to comment on the developments. The military,
under its widely respected chief, Gen. Michel Suleiman, has sought to
remain neutral in the political chaos, and Lahoud's statement did not
give it political powers.

Even before the president's vague announcement, the military was in
place to guard against the two sides' supporters taking the conflict
to the streets. On alert for days, hundreds of soldiers stood with
tanks, armored personnel carriers and jeeps in the area around the
downtown parliament building as well as on roads leading into Beirut.

Lahoud stepped down when his term expired at midnight.

Register with WHO? And on which site?

Why do you insist on spmming the newsgroup advertising your web site with
this sort of fake looking offer. If you are going to keep spamming, at
least point to the actual URL rather than at your own forums and web site.
I would advise anyone visitting to install a HOSTS list to ensure the site
owner makes no money out of you from advertising. They often put links
through advertisers sites or redirect your traffic. Google for "HOSTS list"
and hit them in the pocket.
If the web site no longer functions then it's best avoided as genuine sites
will keep on working.

It's pointless to berate evil spammers. Just the fact that they are
spamming proves that they don't care about rules, terms of service or
what anyone thinks. It's unlikely they even read the newsgroups.

who made less than 24 k dollars a year was struck down by a hit and
run driver as she was crossing the street in Cotonou, Benin. The can
ran the red light and speed away. She was just at the travel agent to
leave the country to come back to The United States. She has no
medical insurance and was taken to Nigera to the Jordan Hospital and
Materinty Home. The hospital would not preform the sugery without a
deposit which I have put up the deposit but they said that they will
not release Mariah until the entire bill is paid. I am tapped out
after the deposit and am trying to raise money for her. If you can
picture your self in this situation and can have compassion for
another human being then the address of the Hospital is
8 APATA Street- Sholmoulu,Lagos, Nigeria. the phone number there is
234-1-764-6165 with what ever international code your country has. It
is 011 in the US.
Just a dollar or what you can afford will help. It has been a week and
she has had the surgery yesterday(Friday) she is in a full body cast,
she had both arms and legs broken and her waist fractured along with
multiple cuts. She has not awaken since the accident. Please show that
part of the world that there is compassion for your fellow human on
this side of the world. The Doctor there in charge is DR. Clint O
Kuffour. Please give if you can if not at least say a prayer for this
young woman. Thank you and may God Bless you.

Mike

My experience with foot pumps is that they are pieces of rubbish. The
hole that the rod goes through tends to get enlarged in one direction and
then the pump won't work.

I did just get a 12V "compressor" at Target for $10. It is slow - tends
to take 15-20 seconds to add just one PSI to a largish car tire (for 1993
Olds Delta 88 Royale). However, it takes less time than going to a gas
station for air.

As for bicycle pumps - few under $25 last in my experience. And I had a
Bell Air Strike 2100 one from a sporting goods shop die on its first day,
while topping off the 4th tire on my car.
