MEXICO CITY (AFP) - Most of Mexico's southern state of Tabasco was
underwater Thursday, as hundreds of thousands of people waited for
rescuers to pull them out of their homes in the worst floods ever in
the region.

The floods that began last week now cover 80 percent of Tabasco, a
state about the size of Belgium, affecting about one million people
and killing at least one person, officials said.

"Of the 2.1 million Tabasquenos, more than half are suffering from
this serious problem that has not been experienced in the history of
Tabasco," Governor Andres Granier told reporters.

About 30,000 people were placed in 256 state shelters while 300,000
remain trapped in flooded homes, waiting for military helicopters and
boats to rescue them, the state government said in a statement.

More than 850 towns have been flooded in the Gulf of Mexico state.

"The amount of water is shocking," said the governor of the 29,000
square kilometer (11,000 square mile) state. "100 percent of crops are
lost."

"The state is devastated," Granier said.

About 400 doctors and health workers have been deployed to more than
300 towns to detect any outbreak of infections, according to the
state's Civil Protection agency.

State officials warned that rivers continued to rise one week after
the first flooding started.

"The overflow caused by the heavy rains that continue to hit the
region allows us to say 500 cubic meters (of water) has been added" to
the flooding, Tabasco government under secretary Juan Molina told
Formato 21 radio.

The floods began last week when a cold front brought heavy rain that
caused rivers to break their banks.

Soldiers and state authorities had placed more than 700,000 sand bags
along the rivers to prevent flooding, but the water rose above the
barriers.

The floods worsened over the past three days as authorities drained
water from two dams in the neighboring state of Chiapas to prevent
them from exceeding their capacity. The drainage caused three Tabasco
rivers to burst their banks.

The water rose again Thursday in the state capital of Villahermosa,
which was flooded Wednesday after the Grijalva River burst its banks.

But hundreds of Villahermosa residents refused to leave their flooded
homes amid reports of looting in the city of 750,000 people.

"There's no policing," a woman living in Villahermosa told reporters.
"The thieves climb on the roofs and open the doors through there."

Chris Bergin and his brother, Ben, were jamming along to "Message in a
Bottle" on the videogame Guitar Hero 2 during a storm in June when a
bright light flashed and a thunderclap shook their house in Wilton,
Conn.

The lightning strike nearby triggered a power surge that snaked
through the house's electrical system to Mr. Bergin's PlayStation 2
then traveled through the wiring to the plastic guitar controller
pressed up against his stomach.

"I just remember falling to the ground and looking at my brother
'cause he was on the ground, too," says the 15-year-old Mr. Bergin.
The two brothers weren't hurt, but their PlayStation was fried, along
with their laptop computer, television set, cable and phone wiring and
ceiling fan.

More from The Wall Street Journal Online:

· Economists Fear Weak Demand for Homeownership Will Fester

· When It Takes a Miracle to Sell Your House

· Consumers Face Record Heating-Oil Bills

Lightning safety experts, endorsing common sense, have long advised
that indoors is the safest place to be during an electrical storm. The
National Weather Service recently adopted the slogan, "When thunder
roars, go indoors."

But the spread of high-tech devices, including laptops and videogames,
means there are new ways in which people can suffer injuries or
property losses, even in the relative safety of their homes. A
division of Sony Corp., Sony Computer Entertainment America, the maker
of PlayStation products, says it hadn't heard of incidents like this
and says its devices come with safety instructions about lightning.
Activision Inc., which makes the Guitar Hero game, advocates staying
off electronics during storms.

Mark Earley, chief electrical engineer at the National Fire Protection
Association, says the new lightning safety slogan should be modified
slightly: "When thunder roars, stay indoors -- and read a book."

Next time, wash the junque down with a sweet potato and large glass of
water.

How about, next time, take a pooper-scooper and "doggie" bag with you.

TOPIC: A legal method of asset protection is being offered .....

I found an auction on e-bay that is offering a legal method of asset
protection. It protects your car as well as your cash. Your car needs
to be protected because, if it is not protected, creditors may seize
your car.

Check out the method at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESEX:IT&item=180175999284&_trksid=p3984.cSELL.m315.lVI

I bought the method from this seller, and it worked for me. It
protected my car and my bank account. My house still has a lien on it,
but it is protected from every other creditor besides the mortgage
broker. I own my car free and clear, and the methods in the report
prevented a creditor with a judgment against me from having my car
seized.

I wish I could tell you more, but I don't feel it is right to give
someone else's intellectual property away. The man who wrote the
report did extensive research to come up with a legal method of asset
protection.

Gee, the intellectual info is being sold by someone on Ebay with 0, that's
zero feedback. The item was just placed on Ebay an hour ago and you're
telling us that you already purchased it (there were no bids or buyers on
the item) and saved your car, your house and your underwear. That's great.
Don't you think that your shilling of your own sale is quite obvious and
stupid?

Curcumin has been used for thousands of years as a medicinal preparation
made from turmeric or as turmeric powder used as a preservative and
coloring agent in foods (yellow curry powder). Curcumin was isolated as
the major yellow pigment in turmeric, a pure chemical
(diferulomethane). Curcumin¹s structure is similar to other plant
pigments called polyphenolics (chemicals containing muliple ³phenol²
groups) which often have potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory
properties and associated health benefits. Many similar plant pigments
are known as potent antioxidants, for example, the pigments extracted
from grapes in red wine ( resveratrol), or in green tea (catechins) or
in fruit juices (blueberries, strawberries, pomegranates etc) typically
contain polyphenolic antioxidants and have been studied for their
possible medicinal or preventive value.

Curcumin has been developed by the US National Cancer Institute
(NCI) and academic investigators around the world as a potent
anti-carcinogen. Because of low toxicity and great efficacy in multiple
in vitro and in vivo cancer models, curcumin was selected for further
development, put through extensive toxicology testing and has
successively made it through the first stages (Phase I) of clinical
testing abroad and is currently in clinical trials at several sites in
the U.S. All of this work by many labs has provided the basis to quickly
and safely explore curcumin¹s potential for Alzheimer¹s and other
neurological diseases.

Curcumin has shown efficacy in many other pre-clinical culture and
animal models for diseases related to aging and chronic treatment with
related ³curcuminoids² have even been able to increase the lifespan of
mice.

Curcumin and Alzheimer¹s Disease. Our group has tested curcumin
in several models for Alzheimer¹s and found that it not only reduces
oxidative damage and inflammation (as expected), but also reduces
amyloid accumulation and synaptic marker loss and promotes amyloid
phagocytosis and clearance. Curcumin worked to prevent synaptic marker
and cognitive deficits caused by amyloid peptide infusion and abeta
oligomer toxicity in vitro. Our work on curcumin and AD is discussed in
detail in our publications. and for information on enrolling in a
curcumin trial see trials link .

Totino's and Jeno's pizza recalled due to E. coli

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Almost five million Totino's and Jeno's frozen
pizzas with pepperoni toppings are being recalled because the
pepperoni may be contaminated with E. coli, General Mills Inc said on
Thursday.

General Mills, which owns the Totino's and Jeno's brands, said the
recall affects about 414,000 cases of pizza products currently in
stores and all similar pizza products that might be in consumers'
freezers. Each case contains 12 pizzas.

The possible E. coli contamination was uncovered by state and federal
authorities investigating 21 E. coli-related illnesses in 10 states.

General Mills said nine of the 21 people reported having eaten
Totino's or Jeno's pizza with pepperoni topping at some point before
becoming ill.

The people became ill between July 20 and October 10, the USDA's Food
Safety and Inspection Service said, adding that all the patients
recovered.

The people did not have packages with dates codes or other information
General Mills needs to narrow down which pizzas might be affected,
General Mills spokesman Tom Forsythe said, adding that, for the same
reason, the company could not determine which of its suppliers
provided the pepperoni.

E.coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause bloody
diarrhea and dehydration. The very young, seniors and persons with
compromised immune systems are the most vulnerable to food borne
disease.

The recall includes eight types of Totino's brand frozen pizza and
three types of Jeno's brand frozen pizza with pepperoni topping, or
pepperoni in combination with other toppings.

The frozen pizzas were produced in its Wellston, Ohio, plant and
distributed throughout the United States. The plant is currently
making other pizzas, but not with pepperoni, General Mills spokesman
Tom Forsythe said.

_______________________________________________

You get the message: US made products may be just as bad as Chinese
manufactured ones: So many products may be tainted with E-coli like
last fall's lettuce. Protectionism can go both ways. I'd rather not
have Pelosi and her protectionist congress dumping on China just
because their own consumers prefer Chinese stuff to their own
industry. The US should fix their own trade deficit rather than
picking on China in vain.
