My best purchase was a recent purchase of a TV. It is a $300 Emerson
which I ordered from Walmart. It provides me with hours of
entertainment every evening. It has a built in DVD player although I
haven't used it yet (except to test that it works) so I can rent
movies from Netflix if I choose. So far, my favorite programs are on
PBS..."Nightly business Report", "California Gold", British mysteries,
etc.

In 1971 I was a senior at the U of Hawaii. We had 5 kids (I started
late on GI vet ed benefits) We lived in subsidized low-income fed
housing. I worked nights after classes to make ends meet. Because of
5 kids my wife did not work except my senior year.
State housing had a lottery for FHA 235 program for non-home owners.
It would give you a new house fee simple with no down. Thousands put
there names in the lottery, only a handful were picked. I was one of
them. The house cost $34,000. We sold it for $64,000 five years
later, bought a house with the proceeds in San Jose. Paid $41,000.
Worth $700,000 now.

Buying 2450 acres of property in a prime rural location for next to
nothing in 1986 and using a little known process of re-establishing and
reclaiming correct title via historical patents and certificates of
compliance in essence circumvented The Calif Map Act. Have been selling
off parcels for 20-years now. That single deal and the profits it
generated generated have paved the way for many profitable developments
which would never have been possible without this cash cow.. Original
Cost $225-ac. Averaged Sale $4200-AC Real Estate 'Dirt' is where is
the money is. Unless your really lucky in the stock market.

The house we are presently living in now. We got it at a great price, and
it has since appreciated in value considerably from our purchase price, in
about eight years.

Correct - but you're the one who raised the question of the ethics of
incurring debt that won't be paid when one dies.

> Does the fact that a lot of other people are doing things

Uh, yeah. If you stomp on my foot I'll stomp back, twice and harder.
If you try to scam me I'll do everything I can to turn it around on
you and scam you back.

Many gray areas in there, but that's how I personally respond to
people who try to take advantage of me, or engage in less than
straight forward business practices.

I don't even think about about what's right, wrong or ethical - just
how I can get even.

Out of curiosity, does Stihl ever have a sale, or offer coupons, on
their power equipment? (I'm interested in their KombiMotor line.)

Information as to how to get a discount on Stihl equipment would be
appreciated. Thanks!

Interesting discussion. Since I am posting from Google Groups, I
guess some won't
see this reply. Nice to know that what I have to say is not important
because of the
technology I choose to use.

What you have to say may not be heard because you
chose to use the same means as so many of the more
noxious posters. People are avoiding the din of the
crazies and those hawking wares and self-aggrandizement.
If you choose to come to the NewsGroups through the
same means as the things that people are avoiding; you
should expect to be cut off when that means is cut off.

While I still keep track of all the postings, I find that
most of the GoogleGroups Spam is easy to spot and
my delete button works well. Also, it makes it easier
to notice and follow threads like this. I try to avoid
posting to these threads though, as it can be a way to
propagate them around the anti GoogleGroup filters.

There are a number of other ways to post to the
News Groups, you need not use Google's service
with its mass News Group posting features.

Luck;
Ken

news.aioe.org - no registration needed. Limited number of text posts per day.
news.motzarella.org - register to use. I used a gmail account for an
email address for registration. Account and password
authenticate the connection of the news reader software
to the site.

AIOE was inoperative for a few days, due to a DNS problem, but is now
up and running again. I use Thunderbird (mozilla.org) for posting to
these servers. For Motzarella, I have to tick the "authenticate" box
in the properties for the connection to the server.

Paul

It's a simple signal-to-noise problem.

The technology you chose is indistinguishable from that
which many spammers use.

Why are you surprised when people consider what you have to
say not important enough to dig out of the spammer infested trash?
