Partly true !

Close to 1/3 of my water bill is "fixed fee".
ie; service charge, connect charge, overhead charge, etc. etc.
( sort of like a telephone bill )
So, the less water you use, the "more-per-gallon" you pay.

My electric, and gas bills are structured the same way.

i don't think they adjusted the meter. it's been 7 yrs.....something like:

the meter tracked all the water you used, but the billing was in 1000 gal
incr OR ANY PART THEREOF :)
so lets's say you just moved in, the meter is was set to 0, and this is your
1st month's water bill:

your meter reads: 1234 gallons

your bill reads:

0-1000 gallons: 10.00
1001-1234 gallons: 10.00 (this is where the OR ANY PART THEREOF COMES
IN)

the next month your meter reads: 3456 gallons

your bill reads:

1001 - 2000 gallons: 10.00
2001 - 3000 gallons: 10.00
3001 - 3456 gallons: 10.00

anything over even 1000 gal increments was just sliced off.

oh, and did i mention that because we were county, we paid double the rate?

same here, and with the electric and gas bill, as well. the water bill
here computes in 1000 gal increments, but i don't know about the meter.

When I lived in TN, we also had that 2x in the water county cost. The
higher cost partially offset the savings of having no city taxes, along

Well, unless you shower using cold water only, using less water means you
heat less water, so you could be saving money on the fuel bill. But as to
saving money on the water bill, even if the bill was accurate to the gallon,
water is so cheap most places that I doubt you'd notice the savings for a
typical shower.

Local option. My son near Raleigh pays $80 for up to 3K gallons and $27
for the next 1K gallons, which is prorated on usage -- some of their
neighbors who take gardening seriously pay $600-$700/month for the
privilege. In SoCal, nearly a desert, water is almost free.

Bullshite. A few hundred watts of heat is quite noticable. I'm in
a 34 foot RV and 400 watts of electric heat is more than enough
to keep the interior 30 degrees F warmer than the exterior.

In the summer, any standby energy consumed results in heat
which must be removed by AC using yet more energy.

And even someone as stupid as you should be able to grasp that no one
in a 34 foot RV would be likely to have 400W of CFLs on very often at all.

Duh. Pity that with a normal A/C house, the power used for
the A/C is gunna be a hell of a lot more than a few extra CFLs.

I'd say that the Honda is a lot more plush -- if you want
it to be (with all the trim levels) -- and the Honda does
seem better as far as fit & finish goes, but that the
Toyota might be the better choice as far as maintenance
goes.

The Hondas can be maintenance pigs. And I don't mean
that they break down a lot -- they are amazingly reliable --
but that they will punish you if you don't spend the bucks
on regular maintenance.

I'd go for the Toyota...

Why does s/he think so? Has a host or hostess said so? Has s/he called the
company in the guise of a prospective customer to hear the actual pitch?
Does the bartender submit a bill to the host or hostess and is there a note
on the bill that a gratuity has been added? Is the bartender's paycheck
from the company below minimum wage?

I've never hired a bartender for a party in my home, but I have attended
parties where it's been done, and it's never occurred to me as a guest to
tip the bartender, or the disc jockey, or any of the other help, any more
than I would reimburse my host for the cost of dinner. The only time I've
hired a bartender was for my daughter's wedding, and again, it never
occurred to me to tip the guy - I assumed the fee was the price.

I do tip in bars and restaurants, but if there's a note on the menu or the
bill to the effect that "xx% gratuity added for parties greater than yy
persons" I don't add a tip to that as well, though I have no way of knowing
if the restaurant actually distributes the gratuity to the people performing
the service.

When I go to the barber (actually a strip mall where Korean ladies cut
my hair), I always leave a tip.

What is so special about Christmas for people like hotel porters,
barbers and food service people? Normally they get tipped year round
anyway.

On the other hand, there are some jobs like doorman, who don't
normally get a tip each time they perform a service. If you are going
to tip them, it makes sense to do it during the holiday.

Well, I'm not a trained psychologist, and even a trained psychologist
couldn't diagnosed someone based on a web site they created, but
nevertheless I'm fairly sure the guy is a paranoid schizophrenic.
Which is kind of sad, really, but what can you do? The guy is already
aware of the possibility and has discounted it even though it's most
likely the truth.

Getting back on a practical level, his Usenet abuse is not likely to
be stopped by conventional means. To him (within his delusion), it's
probably critically important to get the word out on Usenet, so his
motivation is stronger than that of a regular spammer, and he appears
to be relatively smart as well.

I had a very intelligent friend who was convinced that the CIA
monitored his thoughts and actions. Any attempt to silence him was taken
a validation of his claims. When he was broke I would let him stay at my
place with the condition that we would not about the plot. He would
sometimes say "I see they got to you,also" and would leave. He usually
was able ( and still is) to find menial jobs. He would always repay any
borrowed money usually mailing a money order with a general delivery
address and a cryptic explanation of why he was in that area. Not only
would he repay money but he estimated to cost of food he had eaten
,phone calls and even gas.
He was very organized. He formed a political action committee and
when he left California he hitch hiked east but stopped in Sacramento to
file papers to dissolve the PAC.

one time. Whats quite striking is how coherent he can be,
