IME (I have an annual invasion attempt by native field mice) there
is nothing "better" than traditional traps. When properly located, they
are extremely effective and require no bait. I have tried poison, which
works, and sticky trays, which work when used properly, but -- the
disadvantages of each outweighs its effectiveness, IMO. For example,
following my nose, I once removed the bottom of my undersink kitchen
cabinets in order to retrieve a poison victim. The poison ("Tom Cat"
brand from the supermarket) did work, though. I suppose the sticky tray
might have some entertainment value because the operator must kill the
trapped beast (they don't put that on the label, now, do they....);
plus, you can't begin to imagine the places into which a mouse can drag
one those lightweight trays using just two or three legs. I suspect that
only _after_ one is caught on the stickum is when your cat's instincts
will rekindle. Imagine: Tray containing partly-eaten Mickey, his cute
little shorts all bloody, now stuck to roach-brain's fur. How horrible
would that be upon first arising? Now, further imagine dealing with a
cat that forever will begrudge and resent the patch of fur that you
removed along with the sticky tray: Hell, you might as well be married.
From the little information you've provided, I suspect that you're
placing the traps improperly. As you've discovered, baiting Minnie to
the trap to feed is, most often, ineffective: She must run _across_ the
trap's trigger. Bait rarely is needed, when the trap is properly
located. Brush up on mousie behavior but, in the meantime, if you
discover Minnie's most recent feeding source leave it intact and in
place. And take heart: That trail of turds helps make him easy to trap.
What if mice flew?
Warning: do not geek for the "mouse" traps. Go ahead and get the larger
Victor RAT traps. Their yellow plastic triggers very sensitive, and
their springs strong enough actually to kill a mouse (and quickly, too)
-- a big plus.

The mice traps that the mouse crawls into seem to work very well. My
brother uses them and has no trouble catching mice, sometime he'll have
more than one in the same trap.

Now, he lives near the edge of a valley and dumps the live mice out
in the woods and they simply come back in to get caught again. The mice
never learn. Neither does my brother!

Now, for rats (and mice also), the poison just plain works. And you
don't have to kill the mouse yourself.

For myself, I use the cat method. Cats may bring mice in the house,
but they never make it out alive. Not every cat is up to that, but most
are. In fact nothing lives in the yard that isn't larger than a cat!

Somehow you have to be smarter than the mouse. I give the mouse a
50/50 chance of dying of old age. Your best hope is that the mouse
doesn't pass all his genes on to his progeny.

Ideas:
Put peanut butter in the center of a glue trap.
Put peanut butter on a small piece of cardboard, place in the bottom
of a 19 gallon trash container, be sure to provide means for the
critter to enter the container but the sides will be too tall to
escape.
Look for any entrance holes and plug with steel wool.

I use the standard spring traps, but I tie a short piece of yarn
around the trigger, then use a toothpick to smear peanutbutter on it,
working it into the fibers of the yarn. The greedy little buggers
will usually tug at the yarn to get the last bit of bait, to their
detriment.

Here is a different idea: I have a leftover piece of sheet vinyl
flooring stored in my workshop/barn (I'm sure I'll find a use for it
someday :-). In the meantime, it is rolled into a tube-shape about
2.5 ft. tall and stored standing upright on its end in a corner.

Every time I move the tube of flooring (usually rearranging junk or
looking for something else), I find at least one, sometime more, dead
dessicated mice at the bottom of the tube. Apparently, there is
something about it that is irresistable to curious mice.

Get some chocolate chips....leave some shaved pieces around the trap...
tie one to the trigger with thread....once they get a taste of the
chocolate they seem to lose any caution they may have had....got
rid of a whole family that would not go near any other kind of bait..
or trap......it is important to give them a free taste first....

hope helps...let me know...have fun......sno

Cat litter or oil dry. Put it on, smash it down by walking on it,
leave it. Sweep up. Repeat until stain is gone.

Wouldn't it work better to sprinkle some generic clay cat litter first
to soak up the oil, shovel off and then do a two part Tide wash (make
a paste of Tide and allow to sit on the stain, scrub with the broom or
brush and then rinse, repeat once more?).

Nope, he doesnt want to connect PCMCIA to USB, he wants to
connect a pcmcia Verizon card to USB, a different matter entirely.

Yah..connect PCMCIA to USB 'cheaply'. The cheapest adapter I can find
is $150. Eek. I'd cannibalize an old laptop and solder on a USB
connection and encase it in a portable hard drive box if I could figure
out how. I'm pretty handy. But, clueless as to what would work.

I've been researching for a few weeks but haven't come up with anything.
That's why I asked here.

I know Verizon makes mobile broadband USB. But, they won't swap it out
for me. And I can't quite go to my employer and demand a USB
replacement for the card..as it's for my own personal use. Though my
new eeepc has wifi, it would be great to take advantage of the mobile
broadband card I have.

Sure!

I am in love with my eeepc. It weighs two pounds. Fits in my bag.
Does 99% of everything I do on a computer. All my peripherals work on
it. Comes with Linux Xandros, Open Office, Skype, webcam, etc.. Because
I've used Mozilla for years, with Windows, this was an easy transition
for me. And, I've added some programs to suit me without any problems.

Battery only lasts about three hours but Asus just announced that they
will be selling a longer lasting battery. The charger is the same size
as my cellphone charger [no big brick]..so I keep it in my little bag
for quick charges.

It does not have CD or PCMCIA slots [ergo my request for PCMCIA adapter
solutions]. But, the vast majority of time spent on the computer, for
me, does not involve using either of those things.

Check out www.eeeuser.com . It's a great site for info and help on the
eeepc [but not, alas, for help on my PCMCIA conundrum].

Use baking soda or baking soda and salt. You're not literally
forced to do anything.

Yes, he's an actual Psychologist, unlike Dr. Laura who has a Phd in
Physiology.

I recently bought a small Dirt Devil Dynamite vacuum.
After reading the manual carefully I found this
warning:

WARNING: THE CORDS, WIRES AND/OR CABLES SUPPLIED WITH
THlS PRODUCT CONTAINS CHEMICALS, INCLUDING LEAD OR LEAD
COMPOUNDS, KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE
CANCER AND BIRTH DEFECTS OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVE HARM.
WASH HANDS AFTER USING

Took the unit back and bought a similar vac form
Hoover.... but had the SAME warning in the manual!

What gives? Why would they market/sell a unit with
such a toxic chemical in it?
