It is now clear that Clinton and Obama need each other to immunize
against racist attacks, and Obama is not leadership material, yet.

Obama ran scared. Instead of campaigning aggressively in Virginia, he
went to Michigan, where the votes were not even counted. What's the
message? This is not presidential conduct. If he gets to the White
House, he can hide behind Hillary Clinton's skirt.

Democrats are beginning to figure it out. If chicken feed defeats
Hillary, McCain's swift boat operatives will destroy Obama the way
they destroyed Kerry/Edwards.

Let's cut to the chase, America is still too racist to elect a
cowardly, Black President. Read this by Bill Moyers, to clearly
understand the simple fact that Obama's only path to the White House
is through an alliance with Hillary Clinton.

They aren't approaching this the right way. They need to pretend that
their customers are getting something in exchange for the invasion of
their privacy. Something like the supermarkets do.

The ISP could easily do something similar to the "loyalty" ID cards.
They could triple the price of the service and then put a link on their
home page telling you how you could get service at the normal price by
joining their privacy invasion club. They could alternate popups with
periodic encouragement telling you how much you are saving by being a
member of the "club".

That seems to be the fear. Like most fear, it inhibits rational behavior
(makes official kidnapping and torture seem acceptable, for instance).
In fact, government at any level has *always* had access to individual
accounts in exactly the same manner as long as they have all the
paperwork in order. Doesn't matter whether or not the account owner uses
direct deposit or not.

The difference is, with direct deposit, you are giving the government
permission, in advance, to take your funds away from you. For any reason,
without asking you first. -Dave

I worked with a person who had tax issues. He had no direct deposit
but one day he found his bank account had been frozen and a lien placed
on his pay check.
I found it amusing because at the time we were being wrongly
classified as independent contractors and he laughed at those of us who
paid taxes.

What do you call pathetic? They have everything you will find in the new

Good example of the frugality principle of not buying more than you actually
need. DH and I use our Netflix subscription for other types of rentals than
new movie releases. But if what you rent's limited to that kind of thing,
then Netflix may not be the best alternative.

Well, I rarely rent from the new (studio film) release section,
preferring instead independent and foreign films, so when I look at the
box, I find nothing I'm interested in.

Obviously, YMMV.

We prefer to see the foreign/indie films at the local artsy place which
offers $3 saturday matinees. There are only about 8-10 films a year that
fall into that category. For the standard Hollyweird fare we spend $1 at
Redbox. 1/4 the price of On Demand.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but Donna's virtue is the
fount of information she is leaving on the Internet for future
homeowners' reference, unlike, for example, HoundMan (VF) on
alt.autos.subaru who persists in modifying his 2007 Subaru to feel and
perform like his 1968 Chevy and provides excruciatingly detailed posts
addressing his goals, his actions, and his opinions, few if any of
which correlate to the reality the rest of us live in. Try reading

Oh my! I certainly did not mean to annoy the very people who help me!
Nor did I mean to annoy anyone who needs the help in the future.
I'm very sorry for the "excrutiating" detail - I never intended to offend.
I'll therefore keep this apology short and leave quickly.

Is there a frugal home made dye, black or any dark colour that I could

Kroger in my area is offering up to four cards per family (in $300 or
multiples thereof) with an extra 10% added. Since I shop at Kroger anyway
(mostly buying weekly loss leaders), I'm planning on buying the maximum
amount in cards between now and July. I suspect they easily make up the 10%
by either investing the up-front money, or through increased sales from
people spending more than they would otherwise (since they have a card in
their hands), or via balances that permanently go unredeemed.

I don't know of anyplace else I can get that kind of return on a small,
short-term cash investment, so it works for me. Also, by charging the store
cards to a rebate Mastercard, I get an additional 3% back. I could get that
regardless, but it still sweetens the deal a bit.

Bingo! Most people shop at 2 or 3 different grocery stores, because of
selection and price on products varying greatly. It's unusual to see one
store have the best deal on most of the items you buy. So the Kroger
promotion is looking to make money for Kroger 2 ways:

1) People will be more likely to buy ALL their grocery items at Kroger, as
the money is already spent anyway. Thus, many more of the items that are
high-profit at Kroger will end up in the cart, when these card purchasers
are shopping at Kroger.
2) People will likely spend MORE money, as they aren't paying "cash" for
their purchases. This is a well-known phenomenon, and the reason that
casinos use chips instead of cash. (so you gamble more, because after all
it's not a hundred DOLLARS, it's just a stupid little plastic chip...)

My bet, Kroger makes back a lot more than the 10% they are chipping in as an
incentive. -Dave

Looking at amex.com, it appears that not many people are. Of course,
FROs have just started trading this month, so the situation may
change. With so few trades, it's hard to determine if this will be a
good investment option.
