Processed food is always expensive. I stopped buying frozen prepared
some time ago also.

I can and often live very cheaply.

10 lbs of chicken leg quarters is somewhere between $2.90 and $7.90.
That leaves veggies and grain as the most expensive item. But cheap
fruits and veggies are usually the best because they are in season.
There's always something that is under a $1/lb.

That doesn't mean that I don't eat out, I do because it is enjoyable
and I live in a city with a lot of restaurants. I don't dine out because
it is frugal. Except for the dollar menu at McDumps and Checkers fast
food is not frugal. Now, as far as being able to prepare the same food
yourself (from a Buffet) at lower cost, that's usually impossible. I
love a good Chinese Seafood Buffet.

The lowest leg quarters I've ever bought was .49/lb.

I just saw a piece on NBC America This Week where a reporter had 3
meals from fast food for less than $4.60. She said she was full. Of
course if she did that every day she would turn from slim to
starving. What she calls a meal is just a snack for me. For example
I wouldn't be able to eat just one $1 McD double cheeseburger and feel
full.

Every now and then Kroger will dump them at that .29/lb, it's rare.

And in the most horrible of contradictions she could get obese on that
diet while starving!

I call them "double cheap burgers". A couple kills my appetite.

I preferred the "Big and Nasty" when they used to sell those for a
buck. I doubt McD's makes much money on the dollar menu.

Our Scottish Clan had nothing more to do with the Irish than absolutely
necessary and that was very little indeed. The Nixon (Nyckson, Nykson,
Nixon, other spellings) clan was a sub-clan of the great and all powerful
Armstrong Clan; the greatest of all the border clans and much greater than
your clan. We were right there on the Northern English border and in the
midst of most all of the conflicts.

I must agree with you re. the claymore. My maternal Grandfather used to
lean back on the front porch in the summer shade, spitting Red Mule tobacco
juice into a Folgers coffee can, and tell stories handed down through the
decades of how they were used by several of his ancestors in the Battle of
Killiecrankie in the late 17th Century. Apparently, they we really good
"cutters" but were a bit cumbersome from horseback.

If that damned "Bonnie Prince Charley" had stayed sober more of the time
instead of constantaly sipping on that Dram Buie we would have won those
Border Wars and we would not, could not, have been forced over to Ireland (a
sad and depressing land indeed). But, we left there as soon as we could;
made our way to the wild and wooly forests of Appalachia and Horse Cave,
Kentucky and eventually had the pleasure of seeing one of our members place
the first human foot on the surface of the MOON !!!!
