Let's say you are an ISP such as Verizon, are you going to spend hundreds of
thousands or millions of dollars on legal fees fighting the complete moron
NY AG Andrew Cuomo and be unfairly labelled pro kiddie porn or are you just
going to cave in and dump 99% of Usenet?

ISPs have never needed an excuse to get rid of Usenet as every ISP's TOS
allows them to alter their service as they please.

In the past I have seen estimates that only 3% to 5% of the average ISP's
customers use Usenet. Someone must be very, very busy 24/7 posting that 4.6
terabytes that shows up on Usenet every day.

They *could* have just dumped the sex groups, or the binary groups
(after all, pictures are where the porn is). But it was a great
excuse to dump the whole thing. It's not like Verizon actually wants
to provide services, if they can get you to give them money without
doing so. I'm not defending Cuomo, but the Verizons aren't any better.

I dunno. The binary groups eat space pretty fast, I'd bet that 3/4 of
that volume is binaries. As for the text groups, the spammers
probably have it automated. But you're probably right of the usage,
most people don't know Usenet exists.

I've got a touch screen tablet I'm thinking of loading a *nix flavor on.

I've heard all the raving about Ubuntu, but it seems like Mandriva has
long had the edge. I don't have much spare time, should I believe the
Ubuntu hype or just load up Mandriva?

Just curious - were the latest proclimations from the Vatican issued from
behind the walls of the Vatican City enclave, whilst sitting on a throne,
surrounded by servants and a private army and all of the artwork and jewels
and gold and other priceless things that somehow enrich the lives of all the
rest of the world - especially those so destitute that they don't even have
hope?

It's easy to tell people how it should be - far easier than actually doing
something about it, or putting your money where your mouth is.

Instead of sending the illegals back to Mexico, maybe we should send them to
Vatican City.

As long as the stamps aren't postmarked, what's the problem? I have done
it before. Don't peal off the stamps though. Use a scissor and cut
around the stamp leaving a border of about a quarter inch on each side.
Then tape the stamps to your envelop, but don't cover the actual stamp
in tape, just the border. Why? The postal service won't mail your letter
if the stamp, itself is covered with tape; I think it impedes their
machinery from reading the stamp.

If you have any questions about this, just call your local post office
and ask.

It's illegal to re-use postage stamps - see
http://law.onecle.com/uscode/18/1720.html. But unused stamps? I doubt it.

My guess is you're what you're looking for is a matter of law, not postal
service regulation, if it's even addressed at all.

If it's truly an uncanceled stamp, you can cut it off and reglue it to
another envelope every day of the year. I have done it many times.
It's an unused stamp and you have this right. However, be careful
about cutting and gluing stamps that you are unsure of or just don't
look like they have been used because they can have a mark on them
that you don't see. In the old days you would see those wavy lines
across the stamp proving that it was used. It's different today. And
if it's a printed stamp on an envelope with the bar code on the
bottom, I think you may be violating the law in cutting and pasting
pieces.

Why not just put a address label over the address? That way you are
recycling the envelope at the same time.

BTW which charities use postage stamps? I just toss junk mail but it
may be worth it to open for 42 cents specially if they're forever
stamps.

I cover the original intended address with a very big blank label,

Ask for Form 3533 "Application for Refund of Fees, Products and
Withdrawal of Customer Accounts". Or download the form from
http://www.usps.com/forms/_pdf/ps3533.pdf

Though personally, I just stick a label on the envelope over the one
that's printed on it, and use it to mail something. That not only
returns the value of the postage, but of the envelope too.

On the face of it, yes. In reality, I doubt it. Why? Because legalizing
recreational drugs would bring far more dollars into the pockets of
private individuals then can ever occur with them illegal.

Drugs such as marijuana will be legal only when the American people want
them legalized. Just look at prohibition. The American people got tired
of it real fast. Eventually, the same will be true, at least for
marijuana.

Clipping your nails does the same thing. Are you saying we shouldn't

Which is precisely why people who bite their nails tend to have better
immune systems. (Of course if you have a depressed immune system because
of some other ailment, things change.) I wish I could find my cite for
this, but in the mean time: "...the modern obsession with cleanliness

We're not talking about biting them back to your knuckles. (Actually,
since the thread was started by a troll, we're not talking seriously
about anything.)

But if you let them get too long, they're apt to catch on something
and tear. And that will probably extend back to the part of the nail
where it hurts. I've got one of those right now, dunno how I did it,
probably working on a car. Only thing to do is to try to nurse it
along for a few days, and wait for it to grow out more. True, there
are better ways to cut them, but most of the time when you notice the
nail is getting long, you don't happen to have a nail clipper with
you. Unless you have dentures, you've always got your teeth with you.

> In addition,
> bitten-down nails are not very attractive.

That's true. But if my nails were "very attractive" they wouldn't go
well with the rest of my hands.

Sure you are. I have free checking and last year earned $150 in Target
gifts cards, cost to me, zero. Yes, rub my nose in that, imbecile.

With the amount of posting you do, it's obvious the only thing you're
rubbing is your tiny penis.

Keep flailing, wanker.

Oh, there's two, tiny sections that ok, that's much better. Don't try
to convince me, 12 years in
Somerville was more than enough.

I'll take Kentucky over NJ any day, Lexington to be exact.

Exactly! And something like this can push anybody over the edge into
drugs and alcohol. The orthodox capitalist homeless bashers here don't
seem to realise is it can also happen to them; they live in a fantasy
world where this stuff only happens to "other people", and that they
are somehow immune from the economy. Even the self employed here don't
seem to realise that their businesses can fold as well for whatever
reason and they too will be seeking work. A job search is stressful
and demoralizing enough, without the rotten economy we are in now.

They may be using ANI instead of CID.

As a telephone company they can probably get that info.

Recently I noticed that they are passing my caller ID [or ANI] to the
call recipient.

Formerly they had been delivering the ID of I think their ourbound
port

I thought that ANI was only available on incoming toll-free numbers. I
guess there's an exception for some customers.

In trying to be frugal, you may have thought of getting business cards
from
VistaPrint

Be advised of a possible
VistaPrint Class Action.
"Have you been the victim of an un-authorized credit card transaction?
See www.VistaPrintClassAction.com "

Altho our household has never ordered from VistaPrint,
we have been victimized by their spamming.

We send copies of the VisatPrint spam to:
domainadmin@vistaprint.com
ir@vistaprint.com [Investor Relations]
publicrelations@vistaprint.com
spam@uce.gov
but the VistaPrint spam comes in at least ten times a week

Anyone else we should send copies of the spam to,
to get this to stop?
