AT&T has a special for their slowest DSL for $14.95 per month. This is
available as "dry loop" DSL which means you don't have to pay for a land
line.

I appealed my property taxes last year and just got the new bill.

Last year it was ~$1,400.

This year, $33.43. Take that OhioGuy!

The house value fell by about 2/3 and it was enough for the
exemptions to cover most of the assessed.

The world is run by loons.

Sadly, that is not news. It is my view that truly competent people do not
need the aggrandizement of determining public policy, for example, or of
"clawing" to the so-called "top". Hell, clawing ones way to the top of a dung
heap still leaves one in deep....

I think I'll give that a try, and the hot towel. I'm ready for a big
difference, or any difference for that matter. Looks like the new cream
warmers are dogs:

I'd be up for Derald's cut throat if I could find one. Well, maybe not
such a good idea for me! At any rate, I usually just give up on trying
to get a close shave after a while. I must have a tough beard, or not
enough patience.

I had a college friend who shaved in the shower; never could get the hang
of that myself, even with a mirror. The hot towel thing (or hot facecloth thing)
works; that's why barbers use it. The aim is to help water penetrate and soften
ones beard. The shaving cream, foam, soap, etc. merely stands the whiskers up
and lubricates. Manufacturers tried self-heating "hot" shaving creams in the
1960's; that was a bust, too: Didn't stay hot long enough.
Personally, I'm a total Luddite when it comes to shaving. I use cup soap
and a brush. I obtain nicely warmed (well, hot) lather by resting the shaving
mug and the brush in scalding hot water for a brief time prior to shaving.
Another trick you may try is to wash your face with ("Johnson's") baby
shampoo before you shave. The detergents in shampoo do a much better job than
soap of removing oil -- thereby allowing water to better penetrate the beard --
and baby shampoo is least likely to leave behind residue of its own.
Shaving twice works, especially if the second pass is "against the grain".
However, if the razor is not really sharp, shaving against the hair's direction
of growth can leave the cut end jagged and, with some beard types, promote or
aggravate "ingrown" whiskers.
Please bear in mind that I'm _not_ a barber! What I "know" about shaving, I
learned from a library copy of a barber college textbook. You might want to
visit a library some rainy day and see what they have in that department. You
might find something you'd never have thought about otherwise. Also, remember
that you don't pay for free advice until you use it! ;-)

I only used the one my dad had once a long time ago, and it was hotter
lather than I get from soaking the can in the tub.
Don't know what brand it was or how much it cost.
About reviews.
I really like the actual customer reviews as a tool, but you have to
keep a few things in mind.

1. Happy customers are far less likely to respond.
2. Some people will bitch about anything.
3. Some people are incompetent to assemble a cap on a jar.
4. Some people are incompetent to operate a pair of scissors.
5. The people described in 3 and 4 can still type and bitch just fine.
6. Ignore the "Just delivered, haven't used it, but it's fabulous!"
reviews. Same with "Got it for my boyfriend. He loves it!"

I've bought plenty of items from Amazon, Sears, Newegg that had less
than stellar reviews and had no problem at all with the item.
If I see a couple positive reviews that are thorough and intelligent,
that's what I go by.

Three years ago I did buy a Sears washing machine that had too many
bad reviews for my taste, and no thorough long-term reviews, but my
wife had her mind set on that machine and it was a better option than
divorce.
Not much time to argue because our 40 year old Kenmore went kaput.
She keyed right onto a very large capacity with stainless tub so she
can do rugs/comforters, etc.
And a high speed spin so the dryer works less.
The reviews were bad enough that I actually paid $200 for a 5 year
"instant replacement" warranty. That hurt.
Think about. In this situation seeing those reviews cost me 200
bucks. Not a normal situation though.
But I calculated the dime a day was worth it for "peace of mind" after
reading a few horror story reviews of being without a washing machine
for weeks at a time and trucking laundry to the laundro-mat.
Haven't had a problem with the machine yet.
In 2 more years I'll know if ignorance is bliss and $200 in the
pocket. But I bought my "peace of mind" in any case.

The more reviews the better. Better version of the "truth."
This model shaving cream warmer is only 15 bucks and has 73 reviews
versus the 11 on the model you cited..
http://www.amazon.com/Conair-HGL1-Combination-Lather-Machine/dp/B000BD4T94/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Here's what I consider a sane review for it.
He gave it 3 (of 5) stars.

"Let's face it (no pun), this is not a high tech product, but a simple
device that warms up a can of shaving cream. I've been using this for
about three to four years, and it's worked fine. I use regular shaving
cream, and have not had any problems connecting a can of Gillette
Foamy or Barbasol to the unit. I've also found that using this device
eliminates the amount of residual cream in the can when the aerosol
runs out (guess that means I've gotten one free can of cream over the
time I've used this, but worth noting).

Early on, I learned that you need to shake the unit (like you would a
can of cream)before using so as not to get a handful of warm cream
soup when you're ready to shave. This is a bit cumbersome given the
dimensions and weight of the unit, but makes the final result much
better. I can't help but wonder if many of the poor reviews reflect
this logistical problem, but I don't know how to get around it other
than shaking it before plugging it in.

I've also noted that many reviewers have complained as to how much
this actually "warms" the shaving cream. It's not hot, I'll grant you,
but it's certainly much warmer than the cream straight out of the can.
To that end, given that we're talking about a $15-20 device that heats
up $1-2 cans of shaving cream, I'm not sure I want something that can
make a really hot bunch of shaving cream. "

Anyway, I don't want one of these, but you might.
At least you know up front to shake it.
I always try to write a product review on the website I used to make
the purchase. After I've used the product enough to know what I'm
talking about.
But I'm behind about 5 reviews, because I don't have anything to bitch
about, and it's more work writing a good review than a bad one.
And sometimes they discontinue a product, which is one reason you
don't find a lot of "long-term" reviews.

I have found that wetting my face for a minute before shaving is all I need.
Whether a hot washcloth held to my face, showering before or while shaving, or
wetting my face a few times in the hottub before I get out and shave, they all
do the job. A bar of ivory soap does fine for the lubrication. I haven't bought
or used a can of shave cream in decades. I probably get over 30 shaves per cheap
disposable razor.

TM is a poor crazy bastard who just posts on his one favorite subject -
hatred of motor vehicles because they interfere with his use of the roads.
His other favorite subject is attacking Christianity. If you respond to this
poor crazy bastard, then you are a poor crazy bastard too.

He likes to reference monkeys and other wild animals normally found only in
zoos because he is most likely a wild beast himself. I think he fornicates
with monkeys, but I can't prove it.

TM should confine himself to just one thread instead of proliferating them
like a poor crazy bastard. He is insane of course. I liken him to the
village idiot of olden times. The difference these days is that no one any
longer recognizes the village idiot because idiocy has become so widespread.

But I will be here to remind one and all of what a poor crazy bastard TM is.
It is mark of My Greatness that I can still recognize the village idiot even
if the rest of you can't.

Heard it all before countless times. Once more you have not responded
to what was said/written, again not advancing the discussion with
little more than monotonous, recycled diversionary nonsense. Thanks
for making my point. Personal attack is something that you set
yourself up for and deserve. Experience is what you get when you

not have garnered such opposition and lack of respect from the

I was watching last night a truly inspiring movie: "QUICKSILVER," the
first movie I've seen to glamorize RIDING A BIKE & LIVING ON PEANUTS.
Here's the preview:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPTu2F450sk

It's all pure jungle, but the cooperative monkeys prevail and teach
the ultimate lesson to the predator: "DON'T MESS WITH THE MONKEYS."

These are "WARRIOR CYCLISTS" who ride against traffic and risk it all
for the fun of it. What I propose though is making our whole cities
friendly to "UTILITY BICYCLES" (aka Sport Utility Bike).

There's more humanity in this Urban Jungle (NYC) than in the fake Bali
Julia Roberts found happiness. The world of the lions is as fake as
Bali.

SORRY FOR THE TYPO IN THE TITLE. WHO WANTS TO GET MARRIED? ;)

I guess somebody out there says the same thing:

(Maybe that wisdom has been out there for a while. For some reason, it
sounds Barbarian. The Christians deny it but still do it without
gusto. At most they go to McDonald's. And the lions are not really
Epicurean. The Wise Tibetan Monkey is truly inspired in simplicity)

'We don't know all the facts, but we do know that our natural
instincts are to survive and fuck, just like every other animal on
earth. Some like to think that we are a chosen species, that we are
above other animals, that there is more to our life than there is to
the life of a dog for example. Fact is, we have the exact same
instincts as every other living thing. Survive and fuck is what it
boils down to.

I love how people like to pretend they're not animals. You see people,
rich people, drinking fine expensive wines, eating foods that cost
thousands of dollars to find and prepare, drinking from a single glass
that costs more than a poor mans weekly wages with their little finger
stuck out and a "I'm above you" aura about them.

It's an illusion. It's like putting makeup on a pig and calling it a
princess. We are animals, only difference is our brains have developed
in such a way that we like to think we're not animals, that we're
above animals, that we're more important and masters of the planet.

Hate to tell ya, but we're not. Eat, fuck and be merry, for tomorrow
you could be dead, and after death there is nothing.'

Is that jungle wisdom? Well, we live in cooperative so we don't keep
accurate account of those little expenses...

You know how much my wisdom is worth?

OK, go ahead, swipe your credit card, and watch, "Eat, Pray, Love."

Don't forget to watch Quicksilver though.

A comp is a comparable sale. To be relevent, the comps should be around the
assessment time. That is, they should be sales that occured within a couple
months of the assesment date. In my case, that date is Jan 1 of the year the
assessment was received.

What is relevent is not what the neighbors pay, but what prices houses sell for.
Telling the assessor that neighbors pay less than you is not likely to help
(other than getting them re-assessed upward). Showing them a list of comparable
houses that sold for less will help much more.

That is significant.
