"Sells power"? He pays $16,533 to the electric utility. Contingent staff?
How many, and do they in fact work in the private residence that this 20
room/8 bathroom mansion is listed as? If he does in fact have a large
resident staff that accounts for some of his exorbitant consumption, why
doesn't he say that instead of: "After the Tennessee Center for Policy
Research exposed Gore's massive home energy use, the former Vice President
scurried to make his home more energy-efficient."

How's this for energy efficiency:
Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university,
this house incorporates every "green" feature current home construction
can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and
is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central
closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water
through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67
degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system
uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of
the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system.
Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon
underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes

reflect his net usage?

A few caveats.

1) That's not his total energy use, just the electric component. He's
switched to a ground source heat pump (for DHW also), so his natural gas
usage is a fraction of what it was.

2) The conversions were at the end of last year, so a fairer assessment
would be the total energy use over the same months since the retrofits.

3) Since he is generating his own power also, he may have separate
metering for the Green Power he is selling. Green Power sells at a premium.

4) This is not all personal, as it is a working office with an unknown
number of staffers.

His spokeswoman claims a 40% reduction in total energy use and a 90%
reduction in natural gas.

Now, I think that is a lot of energy, nonetheless. But I don't think
it is unusual for a house of that size. I have a few baby McMansions
down the street from me. The electric meter reader tells me that some of
those are already breaking 3,000 kWHr/month (they also have natural
gas). Now that's for new construction, a fraction (a tenth) of the size
of Gore's House.

All this goes to show that the proliferation of Mansions and
McMansions is unsustainable. Kudos to George W for his Texas White House.

But in the end, this is all about shooting the messenger, not the
message. We've had 7 years of that, and while some of you will be waxing
nostalgic, I'm ready to move on.

judges. Read a little history: Politicians are ALL pikers but the
populists are the worst of the lot: They "feel your pain" from their
20-room mansions and $100mil+ incomes derived from public service.
Unfortunately, in their lexicons, "service" means the same as it does
when a dairyman speaks of having a cow "serviced". Clearly, since very
nearly the beginning of the Republic -- since, at least, John Q. Adams,
declaration of one's candidacy has been prima facie evidence that one is
unqualified and not to be trusted. However, look what a century-plus of
unrelenting revisionist history has done for Abraham Lincoln. It seems
to me that, by and large, national elected offices in U.S.A. are havens
for failed or lazy lawyers who can't or don't want to compete. Those
actually qualified to guide the nation and set rational policy are
unwilling to do so, I suspect, because they don't want the pay cut
and/or don't want to spend their days dealing with a daisy chain of
failed lawyers and their obsequious sycophants (suck-ups).
Face it: Al Gore is a pudgy sad joke. No rational person could
possibly take Gore seriously; he's simply peddling books. He mistakenly
bet his political fortune on the resentment of the entitlement class, on
schoolteachers and utter fools. Since Gore's washed up in the family
business, he simply has found an alternative means of
self-aggrandizement and fortune-building. There is no chance that Al
Gore gives any more of a rat's ass about you, me, Mother Earth or the
Universe at large than his fat-cat hillbilly pocket-lining daddy did.
Nothing has changed; neither is it likely to. There really is no
business like show business.

Al Gore's Home Energy Use Up 10%

Since June, 2007 the former VP's personal electricity consumption was
up 10% according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

Gore's energy usage is under a microscope because of his worldwide
push to slow global climate change through energy conservation.

In the past year, Gore's home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours
(kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households
for a month.

Well, yeah, that's what I do. However, I submit that anyone who is
skating
so close to the edge that they have to ask what their balance is,
needs
to take a hard, disciplined look at their financial habits.

In this time of high gas prices, I am searching for a credit card that
will give me maximum rewards when I make gas purchases (or purchases
at gas stations). I carry no credit card debt and pay off my credit
cards every month.
