Having amassed well over 1M frequent flyer miles, I can assure you I've
been in a lot of airports. I've not flown in / out of JFK much, but
I've flown many in / out of EWR.
Somehow, it's hard to believe you can typically arrive at either airport
30 minutes before departure & still make the flight. I've spent nearly
30 minutes just in the TSA line. May happen occasionally these days,
but I sure would not want to plan for it. I did manage one time to
get a 30-minute cab ride from LGA to Penn station. EWR to Penn station
is typically 30 minutes, just in the bus ride.
Nah - I don't believe you can ever convince me trips <200 miles into
NYC will be faster by plane than train.

Fully agree. However, I've driven there enough to know driving in NYC
isn't worth the bother. It's not so much the driving, but the parking
that's a nightmare.
Along that line, I vividly recall one of my first trips into the city.
We attended a Quincy Jones concert at Symphony Hall. Granted we sat in
cheaper seats way up in an upper balcony, but the parking fee was higher
than the ticket price.
Living in NJ at that time, I would take non stop bus rides that were
faster than driving for about the cost of parking alone. I'll take the
subway any day over driving around the city.

The worst connections I've ever encountered have consistently been in
PHL. I'll pay a premium for flights that avoid that nightmare airport.
Worst examples - One of our sons flew from DC to PVD (non stop both
ways). Due to some snow, his return flight was canceled, but they
rebooked him on a flight with a stopover in PHL. His continuing
flight was canceled & after having to spend the night, finally got home
(luggage lost) about 32 hrs after leaving for the PVD airport. The
other was probably a flight by another son who had his luggage "lost"
both ways, plus had a canceled return flight in PHL where the gate
attendant just walked away at 1am & left everyone stranded with no help
/ no guidance / no rebooking / no room compensation, etc.
I'm not sure I've ever had an on time arrival / departure via PHL. I'm
confident one could probably leave home at the departure time & still
make flights at PHL

We have got some Camellia oil that was given to us, and it's made from
Camellias and it comes from Japan and is suppose not to 'degrade'. Still
it's an unknown quantity to us.
Does anyone know what would be a suitable and safe lubricant in this case?
Since we dont want to cause any problems with the plastic on this lap top.

The hinges on LTs are not plastic but have a plastic covering over the steel
hinges.
Loosening the will result in the screen lid not staying in the position
thats required of the user.
If you must loosen them then do it the proper way,get it serviced.
If its out of warrenty then try and find out how to remove the plastic
covering of hinges,normally this can be done without having to dismantle the
whole casing?

That could be the cause of your problems. Firstly WD40 isn't really a
lubricant and secondly it can attack some plastics which can lead to
plastic hinges gettign stiffer as the WD-40 glues the faces together.
It's a bit of a lottery depending on the plastic used in the hinges.
You would be better off using either silicon grease or a dry lubricant.
Avoid anythign containing graphite because it conducts electricity and
shouldn't be used on electrical or electronic items. Farnell sell a dry
lubricant which should be better for this application:

it highly unlikely that sufficient could actually get inside to anywhere
'electrical' enough to cause a problem, when treating an external hinge.
