Note that until they passed the 21st Amendment, the government had to
abide by the restrictions of the 18th.

Irrelevant to what happened legally just after Castro took over.

I don't know of an urban or suburban setting where an outhouse is
allowed.

I don't know about outhouses but certainly composting and incinerating
toilets are allowed in cities. Septic systems may also be allowed in
some areas.

All this is really beside the point as 90+ percent of the water use
in the United States (and probably elsewhere) is used in agriculture
and industry. Your flush is like a drop in the bucket compared their
use of water.

What's so bad about a wastewater treatment plant? Sure, it costs money
to operate one, but specialized toilet alternatives also cost money to
operate. And sometimes wastewater treatment plants send the, um,
excess off to be used as fertilizer. It seems to me they have the same
benefits but just do everything on a larger scale.

SD cards also have most of the logic required (flash controller and
drive emulation) built in. The primary difference is that CF offers a
16-bit wide parallel bus, while SD offers at most a 4-bit, though very
high speed, bus.

SD/MMC cards are designed to permit several to share the bus, but I have
yet to see a consumer device that accepts more than one at a time.

As with older PCs, many older devices will have trouble with cards
larger than 2GB, because the nature of the drive addressing changes.

As to the "secure" part, many devices don't use it at all; they operate
the card in MMC mode, which has no security. When the security
mechanism is activated, the card is very effective at protecting the
information without the correct key.

No doubt it's installed in his mother's bathroom.

Indeed. This month I used *three* checks, and it was a big event. Normally,
it's only one, which is for rent. But this month I mailed a check to an
individual because it was the easiest way to get them money I owed them
for something, and I also cashed a check at the supermarket (for the first
time ever) because my ATM card expired and the machine ate it (and the
credit union forgot to send me a new one in advance).

Another approach is to look into whether you can get an account at your
credit union (or bank) which includes free checks. I spent a lot of time
trying to find cheap checks on the internet, failed to find anything really
all that cheap, ordered checks anyway, and then a month or two later
changed to another type of account for other reasons, only to realize the
new account gives me free checks.

I havent used one for years, literally, and that was a dinosaur

I keep just one check in my wallet for just such an eventuality,

A drunken celebration eh ?

Not stupid enough to still be paying rent.

I pay all those electronically now and got paid that way too, the cash
for the bills I paid for one of the neighbours while they were away
and I was paying their bills would have been inconvenient for me.

I always have more than one card in the wallet for just such a problem.
