If you're going to be that paranoid, don't have a checking account.
Paying by check is no better than debit transaction.

No, you really don't. You may be in for a hassle, but it's not
lost. Again, paying by check is no better, if you're that
paranoid.

Our bank offers the same protection with our Debit card that they do with a
CC. We don't use it online, but use it almost exclusively for all local
purchases. We've never had a problem. I do monitor our bank account almost
daily online.

My credit union offers the same protection for my debit card as my
credit card. I recently won a dispute over a small bill.
In addition should I exceed the balance they will first transfer
funds from my checking account and then my money market account before
declining the purchase,bouncing a check or imposing an overdraft charge.
They charge nothing for this.

Actually it is worse as more people see your account details.

You need to be very careful about who you send checks to. It's better to
pay bills online with ETF.

It's a _huge_ hassle to get your money back, meanwhile you have checks
bouncing and you're running up overdraft fees.

They're extremely useful. You can get cash from virtually any ATM in the
world. You can use them at merchants that can accept PIN based
transactions. What you can't do, and no one else that finds your card
can do, is to use it like a credit card.

Good point. Reminds me, when was the last time someone bothered to
match your signature to a debit/credit card . My favorite is the
standard restaurant procedure:
Server presents check..
You place card on table.
Server runs card and returns it with invoice.
You put card away,add tip,sign invoice and leave.

In the early days of ATMs I worked with a man who had credit cards
but refused to get an ATM card because he was afraid of cards. As a joke
I offered to give him my ATM card for an hour in exchange for his credit
card and see who could do the most damage.

A surprising number of people do not see this. I have a friend who
refuses to pay for anything via electronic checking yet regularly uses
paper checks for retail purchases.

I know people who take their pay checks to their employers bank
(often incurring a fee) because they do no want anyone in the company to
have their account number.

Which brands of ice cream? Breyers and all the others I see are still 1.75
quarts.

Corn is only $4.03 a bushel (56 lbs) while soft red wheat is $8.66 a bushel
(60 lbs). The blueberry muffins are much better than corn and thus are an
obvious bargain.

The price of corn and products that use it is on the way up because corn
has become a popular crop for ethanol.

I suppose the price of everything sweetened with corn will go up. Maybe they
will switch back to sugar for sweetening processed foods. Will that raise the

Markets are always fluctuating, so it's difficult to guess when the
dropping prices will level out or start creeping up. This means that
prospective buyers have to be more vigilant when hunting for that
bargain. As the market drops, it is easier to get a lower priced
property, but make sure the house has re-sale ability.

To get a good-value lower price, buyers must also look for long-term
investment value.Some of the pointers toward long term investment
value lie outside the actual parameters of the property.

To ensure that you house will rise up in price with the market, you
need to check out several key points before buying. One is the local
community; is there population growth and new employment prospects? An
expanding population suggests more demand for housing. Growing
employment and expanding companies, or new companies moving in,
suggests more home buyers moving in.

Don't rush into the first bargain property that you see. Buying in a
low price market usually means there is lots of choice. Stick to your
list of requirements and don't grab that bigger house if you don't
really want it.

Ask why a property is on the market. How many offers has it had? Why
did they fall through? Are there any seller's clauses written into a
deal? Time is on your side because each day that passes may lower the
price. In a buyer's market, you have negotiating power.

Check out the local inventory of homes, both listed with realtors and
listed privately. If the market is flooded then it may be that it will
drop further. At the very least in this climate, you have optimum
choice and maximum bargaining power. Is the inventory of homes in your
area actually rising? If so, there may be further decline if the
market is flooded.

You can pull one last trick out of the hat in a buyer's market. If the
owners of the home you have chosen are really keen to sell, they may
offer you a little help to close the deal!

For instance if you can't make the legal costs, then rather than let
the deal fall through, the seller may offer a seller's donation. This
stops the sale price from being lowered and also stops the paperwork
needing to be re-vamped. It is a little help for you, and also gives
the seller what he wants- a 'SOLD' sign outside the house!

Either seal the window, replace the window, or move the heater. The
problem isn't with the heater, it's with the installation. Also,
fogged windows will clear once the space temp stabilizes. If not, then
the unit is too small for the space being heated.

You could use a small "computer" fan to circulate room air to the thermostat
better. Or, add insulation behind the heater.

To address another's comment. Smashing a TV crt is a staple

the video with scan lines or it'll look fake.) The stunt co-ordinator
knows the danger zone around smashing a TV set. Exploding glass from
an implosion there may be but they don't go far.
