Are you kidding? I've had clerks wave me into their line when it's obvious
I've got more than the "allowable".
I don't think they care. I think it's more of a suggestion than anything

Me too. On 2 separate occasions when I obviously had my buggy full, and was
already standing in the regular line I have had express lane checkers come
and get me to go in their line.

lately the self-checks are always busy, with people who have lots of

Supermarket cashiers do get evaluated routinely on basis of items per
minute and customers per hour. Cashiers who routinely by any substantial
margin fail to do what other cashiers can will get replaced somehow or
another. Any supermarkets that don't do this will be at a serious
competitive disadvantage to those who do.

As I have heard it, Walmart sends the abused merchandise to suppliers as
defective. The suppliers have to eat these returns in order to continue
selling through Walmart.
As tough as Walmart is on payroll, they are also tough on suppliers.
One example: Google for: WalMart Vlassic Pickle
Top hits accuse WalMart as being why we no longer have Vlassic Pickles.
Other stuff I heard before: You supply a widget to WalMart, and a year
or two later WM says they expect a price drop from you. As in you have to
cut your price, replace your product with an improved version for similar
price, or sell your widgets only by means other than through WM.
I have even heard of consultants that advise product makers on how to
deal with Wal-Mart.

I think my reproductive days are behind me, so you have nothing to
worry about on that particular front. But you may be in for a bit of a
disappointment if you think your decision not to have kids means you
won't have to put up them occasionally, because the fact that you were

Hello.
I have a weird situation in my home with a DSL line modem and router
where we would like to have the modem and router working from and
located in a locked box, probably around 10" deep, 8 to 10" hight and
about 4 to 5" high. Hopefully, not interfering with the signal too
much (it doesn't have to go so far anyway). I was trying to google for
it but did not find anything. Maybe there is something out there that
will suffice us even if it was meant for something else. Would anyone
have any ideas or leads that I could follow?
Thanks!

Actually, I meant 4 to 5" wide.

2 options which occur to me are 1. to make a box out of wood myself.
or 2. possibly buy some kind of tupperware container where I could cut
some holes to lock the lid to the container and some more holes for
the cable to go in. I don't need the greatest security, just a bit of
a deterrent and indication that all is okay.

This from the guy who is screaming about vitamen C not preventing colds
when we were talking about zinc. And whether supplimentation is an
effective way to otbain vitamens to begin with.
But, well, don't let *that* stop you...

Dear dimwit,
WE ALREADY KNOW THAT.
Sheesh.

As long as you realize that many times, the high prices in Europe are
also supported higher wages and Europeans may be paying a lot more
taxes (gasoline, VAT, higher income taxes, import Tariffs, etc.).
These high taxes support the greater socialist model that European
countries expect, such as universal health care, expensive transit
projects, increased funding for the arts, etc.
Contrast that with many places in the US (Oregon and Florida) for
example, where people just don't like paying high taxes, may prefer
shopping at Wal-Mart or Costco, mostly ignore mass transit, tolerate
mediocre schools, and are offended when gas goes over $3/gal.
(Europeans generally pay the equivalent of $4- 5/gal).
The point is that there are many, many factors that set prices, wages,
and taxes. Some of it is cultural. Seldom is there a simple
explanation.

Why do you think the best way to help people is to make them dependent
on welfare. All that leads to is oppression. Wins votes from those
dependent though.

You prove my point by not answering the question.
You seem to not accept the fact that it takes money to live. Most of us
work for it.
