Hi folks,
Recently I bought a Toshiba that was on sale
at Office Depot.
Toshiba has been a good brand for me in the past.
They have great keyboards, touchpads, and screens
and they are fast enough for me.
When I got the laptop home I found a few strange signs that it
might have been owned before:
1. The sticker that identifies the unit that is normally
on the wrist rest was missing. These stickers are normally
on every laptop, even display units at stores. But not this one.
2. The included items (power adaptor, cable etc)
seemed to be just thrown into the box, and the plastic bags
they came in appeared crumpled as if pre-used.
They definitely did not have that crisp factory-new look.
3. The computer has a Hitachi hard drive in it, which is
unusual for a Toshiba -- as far as I know, I could be wrong.
The drive is a little noisy, but I think this is normal for a Hitachi.
Nevertheless, the laptop was in a sealed bag & the box itself was
sealed as well. And the computer appears to function
perfectly as of Day 2 of ownership.
My question is, has anyone heard of Toshiba re-selling
briefly-owned laptops after re-sealing them?
If so, is there an industry term for such a practice?
This laptop seems to have the usual 1 year warranty.
Thanks.

Nope, it would have been Office Depot.

Yep, ripping off the customer.

I'd demand action from Office Depot since they deliberately sealed it again.

With out without a phase change (though there wouldn't be one in a
hydronic system). As long as it's a closed system the heat comes
back.

You have to avoid anything in the room below the dew point too.
Windows and frames often "sweat".

Rather pricey installation costs though. Unless you have something
bigger than a shovel, it's a tough DIY. ;-)

In Vermont we used to go through about 225 gallons every three
weeks. We switched to natural gas about ten years ago even though
oil was a bit cheaper at the time. It cost me $25 plus $12/month for
a new burner. The gas company even ripped up the yard and replanted
the next spring.
Even though I have electric heat now (NE Ohio), electric heat would
have killed me then. My heating plan is to move further South. ;-)

Can't they all? Type-1 is kerosene, which is simply more highly
refined #2 fuel oil.

Latent heat requires a phase change.

The RH in my home was 35-45% all last winter, but window frames
sweated almost every morning. I don't understand it, either: they're
double-paned. But the inner panes were cold to the touch.

No, I'm quite certain that neither of them are available at any Circuit
City within 80 miles. However, the web site for H.H.Gregg claims their
local store has the DTT901 in stock, so I'll check with them.
Thanks,

We wish to straighten and 'position correctly' the garden fence that we
share with a neighbour in an adjoining terraced house.
What is the best way to get the fence at exactly right angles to our houses?
The garden is about twenty metres long. Thanks for advice.

Get a large sheet (6' x 2')of chipboard or an old door and lay it flat
with one short edge along the wall of the house. Use this board as a
'square' and run a string line along side it to give you a straight line
at 90 degrees to your houses.

Or for a more accurate measurement, use Pythagoras's theorem. Lay a 3
unit length against the wall, a 4 unit length as the boundary guide, and
a 5 unit length to make up the other side of the right angled triangle.

Apply the old 3,4,5 rule. 3 foot along wall, 4 foot along fence and 5 foot
for the hypotenuse to make the right angle.

As others have said, the 3:4:5 triangle with a bit of string will do that.
However, it doesn't mean that it is necessarily the right place for the
fence.. With any luck, if you toddle up the garden you may find the
(remains) of the boundary marker. Which may be just a small wooden post
in the ground.
The original builders may not have been that precise with the right
angle as you seem determined to be. Your neighbour may not be too happy
if your efforts leaves the boundary post well and truly your side of the
fence.

The OP is in the UK, and the EU has forced them to use metres for
measurements. Of course this changes everything. If he wants to use
3 metres and 4 metres, he's going to need a trig calculator to find
the length of the hypotenuse. Just wanted to warn you, OP.

Yep. I'm in Oz. Down here we use the 4 side on the wall.

I think I could do that one in my head, let me think now, yes I think I
have got it, the hypotenuse would be 5 metres. ;-)

As others have suggested, use the 3,4,5 rule (it's what the builders of the
pyramids in Egypt did).
If the houses are 20 meters apart, you can use 15, 20, 25 meter
measurements.
However there's one difficulty you may encounter. The wall may be square to
one house and crooked as a dog's hind leg at the other.
I recommend bushes.

Hmm - so is there a different virus in every image? Or is the same
