Customer Service is atrocious. But, sale prices and
selection are good enough to keep me interested.
I like Sports Chalet better.

I am so happy that I finally found out what Big 5 stands for
and where they got their name. Now that I know it makes more
sense and I hope it helps explain things to you, too. Here
is what I found out:

Big 5 stands for the 5 reasons we are a lousy sporting goods
store:

1. Our prices are ridiculous. If you pay full price for
anything at Big 5 then you are a total sucker! Everything in
our store is on sale for 30% to 70% off at one time or
another. EVERYTHING. Nothing was brought in that we did not
or will not have on one of our ads. Do not pay regular price
at this mark down house! Do not!!

2. Our employees are awful. I don't know how so many
unqualified people can work in one place. And, you, the lady
with the dark hair. The one with the "pardon me" and "excuse
me, sir" and "just a moment please, sir" all spoken with that
voice and tone of a patronizing mother / method actress. You
are the worst offender of them all! You know who you are and
anyone who has been there in the last few months knows this
lady.

3. We tell people we sell hunting and fishing licenses, but
we never have them. You see, we get three fishing licenses,
four hunting licenses, two second rod stamps, one Delta Bay
enhancement stamp, one California duck stamp and zero of the
Federal duck stamps. We sell this tiny selection of tags /
licenses in minutes. Here is the catch, we tell you to come
back tomorrow because we expect to get some more. You keep
coming back and we never have them! Brilliant!

4. Our "selection" of fishing gear is second to none. But
at Big 5 that means, if you look for a second you realize we
have none. Well, at least nothing that would you want to
use.

5. Number 5 represents the shortest amount of time, in
minutes, that you spend in our checkout line or shoe
department or gun department. 5 represents the number of
employees out of 6 who are in the store at any given time who
do not "work in this department", who do not "know how to
work the register", who do not "have the key for the case",
who are "on break" or who are not going to be able actually
assist you in any way.

I am sorry Big 5 that this sounds so harsh. I will admit
that I have purchased firearms at your store on several
occasions. When you do have the "sales" the prices are good.
But, it was these trips to your store that I discovered how
lousy you are. 45 minutes to wait for a "manager" to
complete some forms while you wait is enought time to explore
the store and see what is going on. It is not pretty.

the worst experience ever!!! this mid 20s girl with long old
school out dated hair (I'm a hairstylist) helped me she was
the RUDEST B!Tch!! since i dont look white I'm guessing that
she was racist.. she even wanted to see id for a fishing
license even tho the day before I went and didn't need any
form of id.. but she was super rude i also brought my mom
back to sick her on the chick .. and trust me that would have
been a BAD idea!! i wish i would of got her name so i could

Sport Chalet USED to be a really good store. Now they're only a little
better than the chains like Chick's and/or Dick's. Lots of clothing and
shoes, but not a single Goode pole tip to be had. Still, their
employees are much more knowledgeable than the chain-people.

At the original SC store the old ski guy mounted new bindings on my skis
for free because he wanted my old ones for his antique collection,
proudly displayed on the wall. Long gone. The store is now part of its
own mini-mall and looks just like all the others.

Being in a hard water area the u-bend of the WC bowl gets a coating of chalk
deposited from the water.

Pumice Stone seems to scrape it off quite well without damaging the glaze of
the chinaware.

Is there a good way that anybody has found to attach pumice to something to
enable it to reach right into the bend?

Pumice will damage the ceramic, use an acid made to remove lime scale

Agreed, my old house had the same problem but I found that anything abrasive
enough to remove the scale was damaging the ceramic, too. I think it
actually looked better before I "cleaned" it, even the slightest surface
marks quadruple the chances of scale and other stuff sticking to it.

You will be far better off using a product designed to do the job
chemically. Sulfamic acid has been a mainstay of such products in the
past since it has a good balance of chemical activity/effectiveness
and relative safety, unlike muriatic (hydrochloric) acid. Vinegar
(acetic acid) is too poopy <G> and oxalic acid, while efficient, is a
slow dissolving solid. Sulfamic acid used to be the main component of
products like Sani-Flush. Haven't checked lately, but that still may
be the case.

Thats a hard way to get it off. Almost any dilute acid will take it
off. I use CLR, dilute muratic acid, or even a liter of cola poured in
and left over night will remove it. Using the pumice stone will
scratch the surface and make the next accumulation that much more
difficult to get off.

Brick cleaner left in overnight. you need to be careful not to use too
much & it needs to be done regular.

Joe suggested sulfamic acid, with which I am unfamiliar.

My solution (done it at least a dozen times for my house(s) and
relatives' houses) has been hydrochloric acid (a.k.a. muriatic acid),
which will clean your trap in a few minutes, without leaving any
mineral trace. Make sure you don't breathe the fumes.

Do not use sulfuric acid, which will transform your deposit into very
hard minerals (tooth material). Do not, ever, under any circumstances,
add water to sulfuric acid.

Exactly.

If on a septic tank system. neutralize the acid before flushing.

Long term solution is to install a water softener...

I always get the fat out with caustic, ad then descale with acid, later.

Let's face it, PH is pretty neutral in the tank after a couple of baths
and loo flushes. Esp if the water is hard.

If your tooth already has a crown, the crown is removed, then replaced after
each appointment (assuming you have 2-3 appts to complete the root canal).
How could something get cracked when it's not in your mouth?

Cars a necessity because they system makes it a necessity. You don't
need a car to go to the market. A bike does it.

You are challenging me to a duel, or telling me to see the light
through your eyes?

It may never happen. I argue for different space for different
species, and we need our own space as cyclists --not with cars or
pedestrians. CYCLING VS. CAR is the ultimate GOOD VS. EVIL battle,
unless you are both a cyclist and a driver.

We need to TAKE THE LANE as a cyclist and leave the whole lane to the
cyclist when we drive --not 1, 2 or 3 feet.

Hey, if your hard drive really crashed, how were they supposed to get
anything off of it? The answer is that your hard drive probably did
not crash. You probably only had a minor software problem do to your
ignorance in managing your computer. You should still have the old
hard drive and can retrieve anything still readable. It will have to
be done by someone more knowledgeable than you though.

For what it's worth, there is a really good program called TeraCopy
that is great for retrieving data from failing hard drives.
