First off, if you have, or can get, a dialup fax/modem you can use
it to send faxes. Even if you don't use it for internet access.
Unless you don't have a landline.
To receive a fax, check if you have a voicemail service that
can receive faxes. IIRC: Verizon Wireless e-mail can receive
short faxes. Some VoIP phone services also can receive faxes.
It totally beats me why traditional landline companies haven't
been offering this service.
The internet is rife with fax services, it's just a matter of finding
them.

I've been using Faxaway. $1 a month, outgoing is 11 per minute (U.S.).
No charge for incoming. You'll get a number with a 206 area code. Much
less expensive than Faxbetter.
I find that it can take up to ten minutes for an outgoing FAX to be sent
from their servers.
Basically you want to put whatever you're sending into a .doc file,
though other file formats are supported. They also have a free TIFF
converter which is the format to use for sending graphics that works the
best, but graphics inside a .doc file are also fine.
It doesn't support non-U.S. character sets--you'll need to convert the
document to a TIFF if you use those.
User guide is at <http://faxaway.com/user_guide/Faxaway_User_GUIDE.pdf>

i got a desk lamp from ebay for 10$ like the one in the image link
below. the bulb is held up by two adjustable telescopic rods, exactly
the same type as you would find on the aerial of a FM radio. they are
metal.
i saw the double insulated symbol on the bottom, which go me thinking.
how did they get the wiring through these rods double insulated, they
are pretty thin. then i examined the rods. they had joints in them.
they werent even hollow! there was no wiring. they were the
conductors.
a quick check with the meter gave 20V AC. thats how it was designed
to light the bulb .
my question is can you have the double insulated symbol on a product
with exposed 20V AC conductors?

Because 20vac isn't particularly dangerous, the voltage is too low.
There's a transformer in the base that turns the 120volts from the wall
into the 20v the halogen bulb needs.
So surely the "double insulation" is about the ac line cord, and the
primary of the transformer.

Yep, all it needs to do is be double insulated between the metal and the mains.
Lots of stuff is.

Call local funeral homes or look up "cremation" in the phone book.

As I understand it, the point of EMTALA is that, the hospital
must stabilise the patient before asking about insurance.
For example, let's say you are mugged on the street, your wallet
is gone, and you are unconscious from being bashed on the head.
When the ambulance brings you in, you have no ID, no insurance
card, and no ability to tell them your info.
So how do you feel about the idea of the hospital refusing to
treat your profuse bleeding until they find out your citizenship
status and insurance coverage?
