If you think any of those things comes free in a marriage, I'm

I forgot: my Homelite corded lawnmower! Comes with a mulcher
attachment so no more bags of grass, no more raking!

Been using it for 2 months now and works great. I use two 50' outdoor
extension cords and it works just fine with them, no loss of power.

And of course it's electric and not gas, so when I store it in the
garage, no fumes in the house.

When these places opened up near me it was cool to go to them for the
novelty of something new, different foods and what not, healthier too.
That was about 2, 3 years ago.

Have these places gotten any more expensive?

Now that I intend to cook from scratch a lot more, and eat healthier
(now that my wife and I have a 1 year old son), I am thinking about
going to a butcher for meats and visitings these stores for natural
food (with less or no preservatives or pesticides in their products).

I just wonder now that they are popular if their prices have risen
significantly, esp. with the cost of gas going up?

Whole Foods was always expensive. I bought some grind-on-the-spot
peanut butter there at an inflated price and was definitely
disappointed; it was nowhere near as good as Ralph's 'natural' peanut
butter. My friend lied.

Trader Joe's prices have crept upward just like everything else. I buy
their stuff because it's good at a reasonable price.

I rarely go to Whole Foods but few weeks ago I wanted a sandwich and
a pastry. I had a croissant for $2.30 ( I have had them before) and next
to it was a donut at the same price.Yes,it was vegan, organic, etc. but
it was still a donut.

Whole Foods is good for bulk grains, etc. (in part because they are
pretty much the only game in town for things like quinoa), but expensive
for everything else. (I buy habaneros there, but that's only about
fifteen cents for two, so the high price doesn't matter as much. :-) )

I did notice that milk at Whole Foods is cheaper than the two major
grocery chains here and by cheaper I mean almost a dollar less for a
half gallon.
I like their sandwiches partially because they are good and also they
have a smart ordering format- they have paper bags and pencils on the
counter. The bags have meats, cheeses, spreads, condiments, bread, etc. You
check the appropriate boxes and had the bag to server thereby avoiding
the people who, when their turn comes, go into the "uhhhhhh.....roast
beef and...........uhhhhhhhhh" routine.

Sure, but visa is a global thing. I have no doubt in my mind that
outfits like visa are doing everything they can to cause a move to a
cashless system where a tribute to them would need to be paid for each
transaction.

Possible, but who will lobby for that? Banks make a lot of money with
plastic and have the warchests to purchase mindshare and the appropriate
politicians.

Sure, but the point is that there is nothing they can actually do to stop the use of cash.

Its never going to happen, you watch.

It aint about lobbying except in the US and maybe Canada.

It would be interesting to know why other modern first world countrys dont use that
approach, maybe it increases the risk of damage to the notes too much or something.

It seems a bit unlikely that no one has ever considered it carefully.

Banks arent the ones that decide that basic policy stuff.

It doesnt work like that outside the US and possibly Canada.

On the other hand, the US Bureau Of Printing And Engraving could
start printing the notes in slightly different sizes. Like is
done in some other countries.

Yet another reason for mass-adoption of the one dollar coins.
Like the ones that are currently being cranked out by the
millions.

That strikes me as too simple - how hard would it be to take a pair of
scissors and change a one dollar bill into a fiver?

I'm sure you could sew a pleat in there to fit better. Experiment with
a wide stitch that can easily be removed. Once you have the ideal, go
with it.

You could pin them at the corners down low. That works, but it's more
effort.

I know that the quality of mattress makes a difference too. Now that I
switched to a better product, I found that all the fitted sheets are
tighter as the mattress is fatter.

You could shrink them in the dryer.

If you don't have a king sized bed and insist on buying oversize
sheets, well, ...duh.

Seams? I didn't know sheets had seams.

Got a buttonhole maker and some shoelaces? Put two buttonholes in each
corner such that when you run a shoelace through them and tie it the
sheet will fit as tightly as you want.

The pins will probably also tear the sheet.

I just bought the 12" memory foam mattress from Costco. The sheets I
bought for it fit up to a 17" mattress. Oh well.

It cost $100/day to house a prisoner where I live. I figure that I am
paying enough already without supporting the rest of the family too,
which I'm probably subsidizing in various ways as well.

If Michigans delegates were counted and split 50/50 that would be a net gain
for Obama, since he wasn't even on the ballot because he was PLAYING BY THE
RULES. The DNC said Florida and Michigan would not be seated or counted at
the convention, so he didn't campain there. Who in their right mind would?
Hillary did, and that is one of the reasons she's still hanging around so
she can try to recoup the money she loaned her campaign that was spent in a
place that "wasn't supposed to count". Now she's in Florida crying out
about *every vote should count* when she was well aware of the fact that
those votes and delegates would NOT be counted before the primary took
place. The DNC screwed the pooch here, and now there is no "quick fix" they
are stuck with Obama, who they really want to abandon like rats from a
sinking ship, and Hillary wants him to lose to McDumbshit so she has HER
shot in 4 years.

Ramble over.

At this point both sides are flagrant hypocrites. Ever since late
2000 the religious mantra from the Dems was "Every vote should count"
along with the word "disenfranchised" being slipped into every
discussion possible. The irony was that in 2000 the vast majority of
the voters they claim were "disenfranchised" shouldered at least part
of the blame themselves (inability to understand a simple ballot,
properly punch out a chad, etc.) Now we have two entire states of Dem
voters who are being told that their votes won't count due to
absolutely no fault of their own. Of course we're not hearing much
outrage over this from Obama supporters, are we? That is, unless
there's some secret meaning to "fuck 'em" that I'm not aware of.

No, if the DNC doesn't recognize both Florida and Michigan's
primaries as legitimate, they should both refuse to put the Democratic
party's candidate on their ballots in November, and ignore any write-ins
for that candidate.

Thank Mike for replying!
What "function setting" do you mean?
I meant panning shooting by a panoramic video.
I use wide lens angle usually during panning.

Oh, I understand what you mean now. Reading through this I thought you meant
there was a panoramic setting. Now I understand you are using a wide angle
lesnse and taking a panoramic shot.

Apprently you are not the only one having problems with this camera.

I don't know about this, but, I've just converted one of my cars to run
on water! So far, it runs downhill fine, so I'm halfway there.

We can make some guesses. The energy in sunlight varies with latitude, time
of day, weather, etc. but a rough average would be on the order of a square
meter receiving about a kilowatt hour per hour on a sunny day. If we assume
a conversion efficiency of 20% and estimate the panels on the car to be 3
square meters, the panels produce roughly six-tenths of a kilowatt hour of
electricity per hour. I don't know the efficiency involved in charging
batteries, but let's assume 90% of the electricity fed into the batteries
can be delivered as useful energy when the batteries are discharged. Which
gives us .54 kWh per daylight hour. Assuming an average of 12 hours of
sunlight per day (I know that's high, the real number is probably more like
half that but these are back of the envelop estimates), the car-plus-panels
can "manufacture" and use somewhat less than 6.5 kWh per day. At 10 cents
per kWh, that's 65 cents worth of electricity. A gallon of gas contains
about 37 kWh of energy, so the whole thing amounts to around 22 ounces
quarts of gasoline a day (about one and a third pints).

Functionally, it may be more - car's aren't real efficient at transforming
the energy in gas into motion, the figure I have in the back of my mind is
around 12% of the energy in the gas ends up delivered to the wheels, while
electric motor efficiency can be over 90%. So in terms of moving a car
around, the panels might do as much as a gallon of gas, or a bit more. Of
course, that doesn't count the energy expenditure involved in running things
like radios, lights, heat, and air conditioning.

To get that gallon equivalent, the solar panels would cost somewhere in the
neighborhood of $1,800 (at least, that's approximately the price based on
prices for larger installations). At $4.00/gallon, you'd break even at 450
days. That doesn't count the cost of batteries, electric motor, and
whatever else might be needed in the way of hardware and installation, and
assumes you drive the maximum the panels can support (and no more) each and
every day, there's never a cloudy day, you're never in the shade, etc. And
of course, it doesn't count the energy expenditure involved in running
things like radios, lights, heat, and air conditioning.

GM estimates that most cars in the US average under 40 miles a day. The
problem is, the average doesn't matter on the day you need to go 100 miles -
unless there's some sort of backup (like a gas engine), such a car just
won't meet most people's needs.

Five to 10 minute showers? Get real. Get a low flow head with a shut
off valve. Some frugalistas even collect the water in a bucket and
use it to flush the john, water plants, wash the floor.

My brother has 4 teenage daughters.... They think a 10 minute shower is
some kind of water boarding torture.

TV news had a story of a fella that took a small car and
removed the engine and bolted an electric (DC) motor to the
transaxle. He could charge it with a 110 or 220 cord in a
few hours, for about 1/10th the cost of gasoline. He had
several hundred dollars in the conversion, but he only had a
20-25 mile range (45 mph max speed). Even in Dallas, that
would be very limiting. And I think it would be difficult
finding a place to "plug in" to make it back home. And with
no a/c, I think my bike would be more tolerable. Or a $3
all day bus pass ;-)

Back in '86 I had a Phoenix friend that did the same thing
with a compact stationwagon. He used an aircraft motor/
generator and recovered some power from braking. The back of
the wagon was stuffed with rebuilt car batteries that did
give him enough range to cover Phoenix. After a summer of
use, he gave it to one of the local universities.

Seems like a localized bio system might be usable.
Individually grow corn or sugar cane, something that has a
high energy per pound ratio. It would be a solar driven,
and even waste (stalks) could be used in winter for heating.
We can't beat the battle as long as it's based on
international pricing whims, all hydrocarbons are priced in
$ per therm now. Price set by traders on what they can make
you believe it's worth and how little is left. Enron was a
wakeup call, that type of manipulation is now international.

Nope, most obviously with power stations based on coal mines.

Several months ago when StarBux did the retraining shutdown,
local TV was interviewing the inconvenienced. One guy was
really upset because he had several hours of internet
business stuff to get done. The reporter asked about
missing the coffee and he said he never bought anything
there ;-)

I wouldn't disagree there.

True. Of course, one can have cheap warmth by wearing warmer clothes,
having better insulation, having a better designed home, making use of
ground heat, passive solar etc. It may well make sense to live in
medium or high density buildings where the capital costs of energy
efficiency can be spread across more users per area of space and where
each user demands less space. If this enables you to live closer to
work, then there's another energy saving.

Nope, not if we dont end up with doom.

We survived two world wars, the great depression

There are only two plausible choices in this election, given the
climate, the character and the tumultuous times we are living in. It
will either be President Clinton or President McBush. This is an
election where all the votes should be counted, it is not about
staging the biggest rally money can buy in Tampa, to claim victory
after a pathetic voter tally in Kentucky. This is an election, not a

want, change the rules until you do.

Remember, in Florida, voting booths will be stolen, tampered with and
"cloned", along witha lot of dead people voting.

No need with the new electronic voting machines. The vendor will
chose who you vote for, and save you the trouble. There is no paper
trail to challenge the results, so how can you prove who won?

Why surf? He isn't worth finding. With his comments like 'Typical
White man', it's obvious that he's racist.

If I'm not mistaken, Obama took his name off the ballot (or never
petitioned to be on the ballot), respecting the rules of the DNC.
Hillary did not. How can a delegation representing those
circumstances be considered legit?

The crossover SUVs are very similar to minivans having front wheel
drive and based on a car's platform with unibody construction.

I am disappointed that there aren't any hybrid minivans being marketed
in the USA.

Before I retired, I biked to work when conditions were appropriate.
Now, I use the minivan to haul the bikes to some scenic bike trail.

Mr. Dan Birchall dislikes people who talk about themselves in the third

Thanks Mark for replying!
Panoramic video means that you turn a camcorder around its axis during
recording.
The Color slow shutter mode does not turn automatically, but manually
only.
