Yet more Usenet posters have addressed Charles Novins publicly, all
expressing regret for past actions, and vowing to join him in the fight
against online abuse.
The original abuses and libels were spread across numerous groups, but often
originated in, "alt.usenet.kooks," which had become an "internet cesspool in
recent years.
A brief look is sufficient:
http://sikoz.notlong.com
Some posters insisted on public apologies, and several others have done the
fight thing privately; Many decided to correct their intemperate comments,
without the need for any resort to courts or formal agreements.
A few of those insisting on a public statement may be referenced at these
links:
http://apologee6.notlong.com
http://apologee7.notlong.com
http://apologee8.notlong.com
http://apologee.notlong.com
Meanwhile, the fight continues.
One attorney tried his hand at libel - while disbarred for other
infractions - and after getting his law license back, maintains a lower
profile:
http://allaboutmiguel.notlong.com
The typical libeler has more common drives, skin-color often being one.
This guy posts as "Henri:"
http://henreee.notlong.com
This anonymous hater seems to have a problem with Novins's Jewish heritage:
http://jewlawyer.notlong.com
Others have had trouble with the law, and can operate only online in
relative safety:
http://allaboutglb.notlong.com
Still others fight hard to keep the poisonous hate going - if the pointless
conflicts are resolved through apologies, retractions, they fear they'll be
seen as the "odd person out." These sorts have been hating and abusing for
so long, they know little else. This particular one eschews easy access for
others to her ravings, and removes them from the web. Her Usenet comments
are at message ID: 3n4qf8.pu8.19.2@news.alt.net Note the typical paranoia
at the end.
The Law Offices of Charles Novins has become a clearinghouse for information
about anonymous internet stalkers, harrassers, abusers, and other online
undesirables. The firm also has acquired a large store of knowledge,
pleadings, and other useful materials aimed at dealing with the internet's
more unfortunate players.

Well, here in NY they run car stops where they make every 4th car pull over
and the driver has to produce ID. They say it's for catching drunks, but
they often do it at 2pm. How is that any different than checking for
citizenship? Maybe the car stops are not "legal" either, but they do it at
least once a month. They usually just get a few people for not wearing a
seatbelt or using a non-hands-free phone, but they could just as easily
check for citizenship. And what's wrong with that?

I think you are missing the point.
Lindsey Graham has said no less than it is unconstitutional. So has
Karl Rove. W's speech writer Michael Gerson has called it dreadful and
said this:
Under the law, police must make a "reasonable attempt" to verify the
immigration status of people they encounter when there is a "reasonable
suspicion" they might be illegal. Those whose citizenship can't be
verified can be arrested. But how is such reasonable suspicion aroused?
The law forbids the use of race or ethnicity as the "sole" basis for
questioning. So what are the other telltale indicators?
But if you believe in government overreach than this is your law.
The number of border patrol agents is double what it was two years
ago. Illegal immigrations is down more than 60% from W highs. The
problem, as always is unintended consequences. Sealing the CA border
(which is now a mere trickle) has pushed those willing to risk it into
the Sonora. The virtual fence was not only over budget, but ineffective.
Without a comprehensive plan, "fixing" one bit will just exacerbate
another problem.
As a noted conservative put it recently, the Republican Party has
become the party of the terminally upset.

The jungle (fear, hierarchy) is created by the hungry predators for
the unaware monkeys (aka the sheep) to fall in the trap.
Buying an SUV (basically a "jungle vehicle") is such a way to feed the
predators (corporations that make such behemoths) in order to be king
of the road.

Hey Magic, we seem to be on the same side of the issue, and yet we
interpret it differently.
What's dooming the West is NOT the rational mind of the scientists,
but the reckless abandon of those who ignore the warnings of science
and keep driving an SUV in "automatic pilot." Eastern philosophies are
more spiritual in that sense, but don't have the power to stop Western
materialism (see China & India).
Now, who are those who ignore scientists if not the Christian sheep? I
just want to meet a man who believes in science that denies what
science is projecting into the future. I haven't met many.

Well, this question of climate engineering got the monkey curious and
here's some article on the subject...
My wise opinion? I believe before it comes to that we should start
with the common sense approach: bicycles, public transportation,
bullet trains... I believe in science, but science fiction is beyond
my simian brain.
You mention China & India, but Japan didn't go that way. I think the
Japanese are smarter, except for making SUVs for America. My sources
tell me cyclists ride on sidewalks though, and that's very
uncivilized. But their approach to public transportation is first
class. I don't think they want to be B-I-G like America.

Oh brother, these debates are leading to some serious stuff. I hope
all the world leaders are following us... ;)
Anyway, I should start with this issue, whether we believe or not: We
are going to have to do like Jesus and ride a donkey or something...
Actually we can make the campaign sound catchy such as: GET ON YOUR
ASS AND CHANGE THE WORLD!
As you say, our roads are SAVAGE & INTIMIDATING, but if we provide a
safe area for bikes many people will actually get on their ass and do
something!
This is PLAN A (PREVENTION) and then PLAN B (HIGH TECH) comes when we
have the money to make those technologies feasible. Bush spoke those
alternative vehicles that never seem to come. "Pie in the sky" like
God.
Putting America on a diet and being frugal like Japan & Germany is
feasible, though not likely.

Oh thank you, partner. Same here. You know something: That's the
reality of the jungle that many so-called cyclists deny --usually the
"pros" riding on weekends for no practical purpose. They say I'm
chicken, but I don't like playing chicken with the BIG BOYS.
I have a solution to that problem, nice, simple & free, actually it
may make some good money for bike facilities such as bike paths. My
solution is:
A BIKE IS A VEHICLE ENTITLED TO THE LANE. YOU THE DRIVER OVERTAKE THE
BIKE BY LEAVING THE LANE 30' BEFORE AND AFTER SAID VEHICLE. ANY
VIOLATIONS WILL BE CAUGHT ON CAMERA AND YOU WILL PAY DEARLY FOR IT...
SO SMILE. A COLLISION BETWEEN BIKE AND CAR IS ALWAYS THE FAULT OF THE
DRIVER UNLESS PROVEN OTHERWISE.
In the meanwhile we are waiting impatiently for better times.

Good. The legals usually have well-paying jobs, and they'll be able
to buy some of those houses.

More than I supported the previous rotten fucking government in

That's very unfortunate. If we want real progress, we need to
abandon the Left/Right paradigm and the two criminal parties.
Both gangs support these illegal and immoral aggressive wars, and
both support the destruction of our freedom and privacy in the name
of "national security." Seeing, and acting on, those two truths --
across traditional political divisions -- is the beginning of real
change.
Code Pink, a women's anti-war group, has already reached out to the
Tea Party folks in hopes of understanding and collaboration. That is
a most hopeful sign, as was the racial right's support for Cindy
Sheehan.
With every good wish,
Kevin Alfred Strom.

In fact new housing starts are up 27%.

Just in case no one remembers where W left off:
600K jobs/month lost
Financial system in free fall
GM and Chrysler ruined
Afghanistan spirally out of control
Housing in free fall.
DJIA at 8000
The trouble with the Tea Party is that success to them is the
destruction of the government. Haven't we just tried 8 years of that?

$380 + $50 shipping for single speed bicycle? No thanks. You can pick up
a used Honda Rebel for that much.

I'm all against Walmart quality bikes. Plus you pay for the style. How
much you pay for Jeep over a regular mundane Toyota?

Depends on the Jeep and Toyota. I wouldn't mind having an old FJ40 Land
Cruiser. But right now there's no SUV aside from the Geländewagen on the
market that really appeals to me. If Ford were to come out with a 2 door
full-sized SUV, like a 2 door Excursion I'd be interested. But until
that happens, I'll be relying on my 15 year old/200k+ mile Bronco for my
towing/hauling/off-roading needs. I probably wouldn't go for a 2 door
Expedition. The independent rear suspension looks flimsy to me.
