Any particular model Fujitsu? All the one's that I've seen have metal
hinges buried under the plastic hinge cover.

Big mess, doesn't stay put, drips, and doesn't last. Also eats some
plastics.

True. Same with most vegetable oils.

Dunno.

Silicon lube should work. However, I would use soap. That's common
ordinary soap flakes or shredded Ivory brand soap bars. That's what I
use for doors, hinges, screws, cd trays, and any place where I need a
no-mess lube job.

Also, I would look a bit more carefully at the hinge you're attempting
to lube, and see if you're not shaving plastic as it moves. The
plastic chips will imbed themselves into the pivot area and eventually
jam the hinge. Just cleaning out the crud might be sufficient to make
the hinge work normally.

Haven't read the rest of these so there could be duplicates. I'd try
some of that locksmith powdered slate; for the life of me I can't
think of the "name".

hes probably correct...thats old though. some that old get cracks in
the heat exchanger and leak carbon monoxide into the occupied
space.... look under the burner area for large chunks of rust and
debris... if there is a lot, its not a good sign. if no chunks of
rust under there that is unusual and means the heat x is probably not
rusted etc.

thanks, will do. we do have a cm detector in the basement, but
i was told by the codes guy that by the time those things go off,
it's too late. and we do run a dehumidifier down there yr round,
so that might be helping with the rust. but i'll have to go look to
be sure.

Days trips is a good idea. I also program my thermostat if gone more
than a couple of hours. just a few seconds to do, and at the end of the
month I have "some" extra gas money LOL.

8 quarts of water go into the stock.

My basic recipe:
2 chickens if possible (since you're going to all the work anyway)
In the biggest stock pot possible place the whole chicken(s)
in 8 quarts of water.
2 cups each of coursely chopped onions, celery & carrots
8 garlic cloves
5 bay leaves
salt to taste
2 teaspoons black peppercorns
1 teaspoon rosemary, oregano, basil and tarragon

Bring to a rolling boil then reduce heat and simmer for a few hours
until chicken falls from the bone. Cool and debone the chicken,
placing the bones back in the pot and refrigerate for 8 hours or so.
Remove the chilled fat from the surface and bring the broth, bones
and vegetables in the pot to a boil and simmer for an hour or so.
Cool, strain and place broth in containers to freeze. The vegetables
can be used for dumplings or biscuits for flavor if desired.
The bones should be the only thing left along with whatever you
picked off the chicken and didn't use, such as the skin.

Clams has it right. It's an expensive proposition for the mortgage
issuer and may not work that well for you.

If you have to move from your house for medical or other reasons, you
may lose your house.

It would be better to refinance your house and buy an pre-paid annuity
assuming you are over 70 and in good health.

If you develop disabilities, you may want to move to a new house or
condo that will have fewer impediments.

In 1981 I remember thinking how "Hi-Tech" I was when I got a touch
tone phone that let me "program" 12 phone #'s into a speed dial area
on the front. That phone was so cool one of my roommate's brothers
stole it! :D

Around that time I got a post-paid phone card. It "only" added $1.50
to the cost of a call and there was no pay phone surcharge. Being in
outside sales I thought it was a great convenience.

What if you are on the road and don't have a cellphone with browsing

I'd call someone who can look it up for me. I've had to pull over and call
someone to mapquest directions for me.

You can send a text msg to GOOGL (46645), with the kind of thing you're
looking for and the zipcode, for example 'pizza 90210', and you get an
immediate text back with the results. I haven't tried texting the exact
name of the place you're looking for but I'm guessing that would work too.

A bit dated (May), but

"It takes 1.33 gallons of E85 (85 percent ethanol) and 1.03 gallons of
E10 (10 percent ethanol) to travel the same distance as with one gallon
of pure gasoline, the Department of Energy says."

"A Postal Service study found the new vehicles got as much as 29 percent
fewer miles to the gallon."

and part that really hurts - "The U.S. pays oil refiners like Exxon
Mobil 51 cents in tax refunds for each gallon of ethanol they blend into
regular gasoline.

No disagreement from me. Mindlessly pushing the idea of using ethanol
(no planning where the corn will come from, huge subsidies needed etc)
to keep the SUVs going instead of optimizing fleet fuel economy will go
down as one of the dumber moves in history.

Yet another fucking moron.

LUBRICATES
WD-40's lubricating ingredients are widely dispersed and hold to all moving
parts. WD-40 does not contain silicone or other additives that attract dust
and dirt.

Good of you to introduce yourself.

The War Department specified WD-40 as a water dispersant. Not as a

Many such things are 'lubricated' on assembly with a damping fluid - a bit
like the spindles on controls - to give that "stirring treacle" feel (a
wonderful expression - found on this group)

A typical long chain molecule compound is this one:

http://www.rocol.com/lubricants/english/maintenance/damping/

Kilopoise.

Removing this can make the assembly feel very sloppy. Alternatively it may
have some sort of spring loaded expanding spindle to give some braking
effect.

If you can get the hinge covers of, you may find a few screws holding the
hinge-proper in place.

You could try loosening these, or even dismantling the hinge and cleaning
it. They will be metal parts,

You may find a manual for the laptop on the Fujitsu website.

THIS IS A PUBLIC SUGGESTION ANNOUNCEMENT !

p.s.

if u look at this ebay auction of a laptop hinge

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ADVENT-3087-LEFT-RIGHT-HINGES-MB127_W0QQitemZ220264193650QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item220264193650&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318

the actual hinge is a pole underneath the black part in the middle.

Grease is used on it.

the WD40 may have degraded the grease.

I seem to semember that trying to loosen the screws was difficult.

It does need fixing though, because it puts pressure on the frame, screen
and surrounding plastics, causing cracks and eventually .....

Silicone, as used for plumbing fittings

"Srayon brand" S00206 5% all-purpose silicone lube (not an oil) is an
multi-purpose lube where petroleum based products are not desired.

Typical uses; windows, rubber components, doors, plastic assemblies,
drawers, dissimilar metals, hinges, and so on.

Then again pour some Slick 50 on it, works good in my lawn tractor.

Any particular model Fujitsu? All the one's that I've seen have metal
hinges buried under the plastic hinge cover.

Big mess, doesn't stay put, drips, and doesn't last. Also eats some
plastics.

True. Same with most vegetable oils.

>We have got some Camellia oil that was given to us, and it's made from

Dunno.

>Grateful for any suggestions, thanks.

Some improved habits vs. past years include 30% less YTD mileage,
shifting much of our local mileage onto our older car that gets 15%
better gas mileage and dropping the temp setting while away in the
winter/ raising it during the summer even for relatively short trips. A
chunk of the reduced mileage was realized because we flew rather than
driving, but the airfare was nearly the cost of just gas, saving
significantly on depreciation, etc.

We have used programmable thermostats for several years, but starting
this past winter, we began changing the temp setting even for short
durations away from home. With the thermostat located near the door we
use most all the time, it's become any easy habit to drop the temp
several degrees upon leaving in the winter (even for an hour or so) &
raising the temp setting a few degrees when leaving in the summer.
Resetting the temp upon return actually makes it more comfortable than
simply maintain the temp because there is immediate air circulation.
After taking summer walks, even a few degrees higher is comfortable upon
return.

A third source of significant savings has been by transferring about a
fourth of our grocery shopping to Aldie's. They moved in locally this
past March and as we try more of their items, we do more repeat buying
after finding their quality to be typically better than other generics.

We've also significantly reduced (nearly eliminated) our motel costs by
traveling / making day trips much closer to home.

I just discovered this new site that's giving away a $100 gas voucher,
for free!

Can you believe the price of gas these days?

In my area it's currently over $4.75 per gallon, and all signs point
to it going even higher, very soon. I remember the days when gas used
to cost $0.99 per gallon, but those days are long gone.

This site delivers on its promise too, and you can receive your gas
voucher for the gas station of your choice.

Here's how it works:

1. You visit www.ebusinesswiz.com/freegascard
2. You complete one of their participating offers (I completed mine
in 5 minutes).
3. You get your free $100 gas voucher!

Simple as that.

I'm taking the $100 I'm saving on gas and taking my family out to a
nice dinner. What will you do with your $100?

Don't miss out on this offer. There's no telling when they'll take it
down.

Visit www.ebusinesswiz.com/freegascard and get your free $100 gas
voucher today!

Define "get to the airport":

1. Entering the parking structure?
2. Parking the car?
3. Taxi / loved one dropping you off at the terminal?
4. Entering the terminal?
5. Getting in the TSA line?

Having amassed well over 1M frequent flyer miles, I can assure you I've
been in a lot of airports. I've not flown in / out of JFK much, but
I've flown many in / out of EWR.

Somehow, it's hard to believe you can typically arrive at either airport
30 minutes before departure & still make the flight. I've spent nearly
30 minutes just in the TSA line. May happen occasionally these days,
but I sure would not want to plan for it. I did manage one time to
get a 30-minute cab ride from LGA to Penn station. EWR to Penn station
is typically 30 minutes, just in the bus ride.

Nah - I don't believe you can ever convince me trips <200 miles into
NYC will be faster by plane than train.

Fully agree. However, I've driven there enough to know driving in NYC
isn't worth the bother. It's not so much the driving, but the parking
that's a nightmare.

Along that line, I vividly recall one of my first trips into the city.
We attended a Quincy Jones concert at Symphony Hall. Granted we sat in
cheaper seats way up in an upper balcony, but the parking fee was higher
than the ticket price.

Living in NJ at that time, I would take non stop bus rides that were
faster than driving for about the cost of parking alone. I'll take the
subway any day over driving around the city.

The worst connections I've ever encountered have consistently been in
PHL. I'll pay a premium for flights that avoid that nightmare airport.

Worst examples - One of our sons flew from DC to PVD (non stop both
ways). Due to some snow, his return flight was canceled, but they
rebooked him on a flight with a stopover in PHL. His continuing
flight was canceled & after having to spend the night, finally got home
(luggage lost) about 32 hrs after leaving for the PVD airport. The
other was probably a flight by another son who had his luggage "lost"
both ways, plus had a canceled return flight in PHL where the gate
attendant just walked away at 1am & left everyone stranded with no help
/ no guidance / no rebooking / no room compensation, etc.

I'm not sure I've ever had an on time arrival / departure via PHL. I'm
confident one could probably leave home at the departure time & still
make flights at PHL

The hinges on our Fujitsu laptop screen appear to be 'all' plastic and they
get very 'difficult to move' making the screen difficult to fold up and
down.

We have have tried 'WD-40', but that seems effective for only a very short
time.

We are afraid to use ordinary oil as we thought it might effect the plastic.
We were thinking of using olive oil, but somebody has told us that olive oil
'degrades' and goes sticky, over time.

We have got some Camellia oil that was given to us, and it's made from
Camellias and it comes from Japan and is suppose not to 'degrade'. Still
it's an unknown quantity to us.

Does anyone know what would be a suitable and safe lubricant in this case?
Since we dont want to cause any problems with the plastic on this lap top.
Grateful for any suggestions, thanks.

And is bad for the plastic.

So does WD-40.

Correct.

Bad for the plastic too.

Silicone oil.

Yep, if you degrade the plastic, it will break.

Dry graphite lock lubricant, maybe ? A tint squirt of wax furniture polish ?

The hinges on LTs are not plastic but have a plastic covering over the steel
hinges.
Loosening the will result in the screen lid not staying in the position
thats required of the user.

If you must loosen them then do it the proper way,get it serviced.
If its out of warrenty then try and find out how to remove the plastic
covering of hinges, normally this can be done without having to dismantle the
whole casing?

That could be the cause of your problems. Firstly WD40 isn't really a
lubricant and secondly it can attack some plastics which can lead to
plastic hinges gettign stiffer as the WD-40 glues the faces together.
It's a bit of a lottery depending on the plastic used in the hinges.

You would be better off using either silicon grease or a dry lubricant.
Avoid anythign containing graphite because it conducts electricity and
shouldn't be used on electrical or electronic items. Farnell sell a dry
lubricant which should be better for this application:

Are you sure you want to be spraying graphite around near a laptop?

Well, I take your point on its potential conductivity, but I would consider
it highly unlikely that sufficient could actually get inside to anywhere
'electrical' enough to cause a problem, when treating an external hinge.
Obviously, a degree of common sense would have to be applied, but perhaps I
am assuming too much, as WD40 has already been tried ... :-) I notice that
you have carefully removed the question mark that I had after the word
"lubricant" which changes its context rather, from the 'possibility
suggestion' intended, to a statement, which certainly wasn't intended.

It will break anyway. If ye have the pleasure of stripping down and
fixing Fujitsu Siemens laptops, you will be amazed how flimsy some of
the construction is - and how the lack of support compounds the
situation. I've never seen service manuals available.

Screen appear to move' makinges on our fujitsu laptop screen difficult
to move' making they get very 'difficult to move' making the hinges on
our fujitsu laptop screen appear to fold up and they get very 'difficult
to move' makinges on our fujitsu laptop screen appear to fold up and the
hinges on our fujitsu laptop.

That seems effective tried 'wd-40', but time. We have have for only a
very short that seems effective tried 'wd-40', but that seems effective
tried 'wd-40', but that seems.

Might it might it might it might effect the plastic. We we thinking of
us to use oil, but somebody has thinking olive ordinary oil as were the
plasticky, over time. We we that olive oil as that olive ordinary oil
'degrades' and goes stic. We were are thinking olive oil as told us
thought it might effect that olive oil as thinking of us thinking of use
oil 'degrades' and goes stic. We were.

Unknown quantity to 'degrade'. Still it's made'. Still it comes from
camellia oil that was given to us, and is suppose not to us, and is
suppose not to us, and it come camellias given to 'degrade from camellia
oil that was an an and is suppose not some camellia oil that was given
to us, and it come camellias an unknown quantity to us. We have got to
'degrade'.

We dont want want in thanks. Does and safe lubricant want in the
plastions, this lap top. Grateful for and safe lubricant to case? Since
we dont in this cause a suitablems with the plastic on the plastions,
thanks. Does anyone know what would be any suitablems with this lap to
cause anyone know what want in this lap top. Grateful for anyone know
what want want in this lap to cause.

Thanks for the correction.. $0.5T was actually the 2007 projected
increase in debt for just 2008 -

"On Aug. 23 (2007), the national debt officially reached $8.98 trillion.
That level represents an increase of $3.25 trillion (57 percent) since
Jan. 20, 2001, when George Bush became the 43rd president of the United
States. Between now and Sept. 30, the end of fiscal 2007, the national
debt should increase by another $40 billion. The White House's recent
Mid-Session Review estimated that the national debt will increase $565
billion in fiscal 2008."

Please take a moment to explore this site. You will find that Revelle
offers an exciting business opportunity driven by an amazing,
innovative product, offering tremendous earning potentialelectronic,
nicotine delivery device that simulates the sensation of smoking
without the worry of taking in cancer causing agents and other harmful
chemicals that are normally associated with traditional tobacco
products. It produces simulated smoke that is actually a vapor mist
that looks, tastes, feels and reacts very similar to actual tobacco
smoke. When exhaled, the vapor harmlessly evaporates in the
surrounding air within a few seconds. It does not use tobacco at all.
In fact, the nicotine that is used is synthetic and derived from other
natural sources other than tobacco. It's basic components consist of a
battery, an atomizer, a safe, flavored cartridge that is filled with
Propylene Glycol and varying degrees of nicotine and a computer chip
that controls it all. Both the atomizer and cartridges are considered
to be consumables. Cartridges are available in varying degrees of
nicotine that include high, medium, low and no nicotine at all.

When the user inhales at the mouthpiece, a small switch is activated
and power is delivered to the atomizer. The atomizer creates a vapor
derived from the moisture that is found in the cartridge. As the vapor
passes through the cartridge, it picks up the nicotine and flavoring
and delivers it to the user. The user absorbs the nicotine either
through the mucus membranes in the mouth or through the lungs.

What is Nicotine?

Nicotine is an alkaloid that is naturally present in certain plants. A
high presence is found in tobacco and a low presence is found in
common vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes and green peppers.
Nicotine, when delivered in small dosages such as a cigarette, cigar
or Revelle, can deliver a feeling of calmness or relaxation. Current
available information states that nicotine in and of it self has not
been shown to promote the development of cancer in healthy tissue.
Additionally, it has not been shown to have any mutagenic properties.
This being said, it should also be noted that the International Agency
for Research on Cancer has not evaluated nicotine as of this time.

One cartridge is equal to one pack of cigarettes. Typically, a
cigarette will yield about 10 to 12 mouthfuls of smoke. There are
twenty cigarettes to a pack, so one might expect about 240 mouthfuls
of vapor when using one Revelle cartridge.

An atomizer is consider a consumable and will work through about 6
cartridges before it should be replaced. The sign of an atomizer that
needs to be replaced is signified by reduced vapor volume. It is
important to point out that if the atomizer continues to produce a
proper volume of vapor, one should keep using it until the volume is
decreased to a level that is too low to deliver a satisfying volume of
vapor. Revelle sells the replacement cartridges in a convenient pack
and always includes a new atomizer with every package sold

Where Do I Purchase Replacement Batteries?

Replacement batteries and other replacement items and accessories are
available through this website under "Products".

Do Cartridges Come in Different Flavors?

Yes, currently these flavors include regular, which taste similar to a
traditional cigarette, Peppermint and Fruit flavor. We will also be
offering menthol and other exciting new flavors in the very near
future. Keep visiting our web site under "Products" for updates and
additions.

Does Revelle Produce Harmful Second Hand Smoke?

No. The vapor that is released into the surrounding area is generally
harmless and will dissipate in a matter of a few seconds.

Can I Use Revelle to Stop Smoking?

One might think so based on the fact that it comes with four degrees
of nicotine cartridges that range from high, medium, low and no
nicotine at all. The fact is that Revelle has not been approved by the
FDA as a cessation device and we are not promoting that it should be
used for that purpose.
