You can certainly claim that any who do that is too many, but it isnt
that common to not get obvious symptoms before it gets that bad.

What is your experience with treatments for viral illnesses?

Usually cold symptoms are just symptoms of a cold. A pretty self
limiting illness for the most part.

Many. And of course limiting the damage of untreated disease can only
help down the road. Consider the progression of undiagnosed diabetes,
hypertension, cardiac disease, multiple types of cancers....

But a slowly progressing disease is often ignored and adapted to the
point where the patient doesn't get the sense of "something isn't quite
right" here

Off Topic, I just mentioned two reasons one may need to visit a doctor at
my age and did not claim them as the only reasons for every year. BTW, if
you have lived in a dorm you may catch such illnesses quickly from others.

Well, if you live in a dorm sometimes you need to visit the doctor just to
convince others you are taking proper steps. The medicines can ease your
running nose and reduce your sneezing while you are in class.

I never said that one gets them every year(though if you are living in a
dorm your chances are high). Just because I mentioned two reasons does not
mean I claimed that they were the only ones due to which I had to go to the
doctor every year. There can be a muscle spasm, food poisoning, minor car
accident(if you are traveling in someone else's car), back pain due to
wrong posture or many other factors due to which a person my age might
require to visit a doctor. Again, this is not a exhaustive list nor do I
mention these occur every year to someone of my age, but some reasons due
to which a person of my age may need to visit the doctor. Agreed, people at
my age fall in the lower risk for insurance companies, but there are some
liabilities associated with us also and people at my age might need to
visit the doctor typically once a year. Some more, some less.

The purpose of starting this thread was to get some good ideas(which I got,
thanks to all who replied). I appreciate your help, but please don't
misunderstand me.

I have a very different take on medical stuff. I don't take medications and
would not ever consider the treatment options available for diseases like
cancer (chemo, radiation, etc.) It's quite pointless to go to have checkups
because I wouldn't follow the doctor's advice if they found anything, nor
would I be interested in any further tests. I exercise 90 minutes a day,
every day, I maintain a healthy weight, and I eat no more than 30 grams of
carbs a day. I don't smoke and I rarely drink more than one glass of wine.
I'm healthier now in my 50s than I was in my 20s. It also helps that I never
had kids, so my body wasn't ravaged by breeding. All the women in my family
drop dead at 91 (really, all of them on both sides!) and we never see
doctors. It's not that I'm being smug or blissfully ignorant, I'm counting
on genetics and lifestyle. My mom's 88 and hasn't seen a doctor since she
had me.

Nope, those do produce symptoms before you end up with fangs in your arse most of the time.

And 'checkups' dont necessarily get anything useful done that prevents fangs in your arse either.

It's one thing to dangle fuzzy dice from a rear view mirror, but
decorating a trailer hitch with a large pair of rubber testicles might
be a bit much in Virginia.

State Del. Lionel Spruill introduced a bill Tuesday to ban displaying
replicas of human genitalia on vehicles, calling it a safety issue
because it could distract other drivers.

Under his measure, displaying the ornamentation on a motor vehicle
would be a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $250.

He said the idea came from a constituent whose young daughter spotted
an example of the trail hitch adornment and asked her father to
explain it.

"'I didn't know what to tell her,'" Spruill said the constituent told
him before Spruill vowed to stop such displays.

"I said, 'Sir, I'm going to be a laughingstock, but I'm going to do
it,'" he said.

The Virginia General Assembly has some experience with offbeat bills.
Three years ago, it drew widespread attention with an unsuccessful
effort to outlaw baggy pants worn so low they expose underwear.

Spruill, 61, said the indignity of the "droopy drawers" debate
wouldn't deter him. He said he won't hesitate to bring a set of $24.95
trailer testicles with him for a legislative show-and-tell.

"I'm going to do it," Spruill told a handful of reporters after
Tuesday's House session adjourned. "I'm going to bring them out here
and show them to you till they tell me to stop."

I've got a 2003 GMC Sonoma. 2WD and a stick ;<)

I bought it new after a looking at lots of trucks, getting turned of
by all the sales tactics. I got an excellent deal with no haggling.
I get 27 mpg; at 84,000 miles I am still on the original tires. In a
few months I'll need tires, front shocks, and a couple trivial items.

When I was searching for a truck, I knew exactly what I was after: 4
cyl, stick, white, the shorter extended cab (the kind without the full
extra seat), and no extras.

This has pretty much been the best vehicle I've had.

If he is looking for a truck of that size..indeed. My Mazda B3000 has
440,000 MILES on it and still runs fine, just wont pass California
smog, so it gets a lower mileage engine this spring and then likely be
passed on the the daughter in law.

And its hauled more than 3000 lbs on many occasions, over the
Grapevine.

Though on second thought..Id get the B4000 Mazda/Ranger with the 4.0
engine in it.

I get 19mpg with my current Ranger with the 3.0 and automatic tranny.
Id not have bought an auto..but I couldnt beat the deal. Shrug

The B3000 (3.0) averaged about 20-21 with the 5 speed. So far..Ive
pulled just as heavy a load as the standard tranny with no problems.
But Ive got an aftermarket trany cooler too.

BTW...that big assed Ford F350 extended van with the 351, average
15mpg if I keep it around 55-60 miles an hour, even pulling a trailer
with 1500 lbs of stuff on it.

Im starting to think it should be rated at gallons per hour..as it
seems to use almost as much idling as it does driving.

I scrounged up a 3000 watt Xantrex inverter and have idled the truck
to keep the deep cycle charged, that runs the inverter

Runs drill motors, grinders, Sawzalls and so forth just hunky.
