The big cost for glasses is usually in the lenses, NOT the frames.
I just paid $350 for new glasses, but the frames were only something
like $69 of that $350.

My suggestion for the OP is to go around to a bunch of different
places that sell eyeglasses and see if they can set you up with a new
pair of frames that will use the same lenses you already have. Then
the only repair cost is the new frames.

If you can reinforce the joint using solder only as a glue, that might
work. Back in my 'poverty' days, I used a bit of brass tubing to make
a surrounding splint and soldered that. With some care and a bit of
filing, it could even be made passably good looking. I have also used
fine copper or brass wire to wind around a beginning crack for the
same reasons. Both of the above repairs outlasted the prescription.

Excessive heat might anneal the metal, some metals will not accept
solder, and tin/lead solder is also affected by corrosives in sweat.
Silver-solder is better but even that is not great. JB Weld is
excellent material if it can be splinted... and if tubing is used
approximating the color of the temple, excess or spill can be filed
away.

Now, I have Titanium frames that I have never had fail. That and
progressive lenses (vanity) and ultra-high plastic - more vanity.

Good luck with it.

There is a somewhat new franchise out there call "America's Best"
Eyeglasses and Contacts. They seem to have the best prices for
actually fitted in the store eyeglasses and lenses. My prescription
would run about $400 (for the lenses) in ultra-high-index, coated, UV
lenses. AmBest wants to sell me two pair for that amount including
rimless frames. And they will tint the second pair at no cost. They
will be my next stop as I would _NEVER_ wear glasses that were not
properly fitted. I am not astigmatic, but with progressive bifocals,
centering and height-setting is critical. Target tried it three times
before they got it right... and they were the ones that told me the
lenses were "wrong", not my complaint. So it does mean something.

I really don't care (within limits) where the lenses are ground and/or
the frames assembled, but I do want the final verification and fitting
to be done by an actual human being on my actual face with my actual
eyes.

Really.

Off that site, a cheap pair of frames and lenses is ~$35.00USD
(including shipping!) I can have multiple pairs and if I lose one, no
big deal ... that site certainly looks good to me. As long as the area
of corrected vision is large enough on the lenses--should work fine.
Height of the pupil can be adjusted with adjustment of the nose pieces
or padding.

I don't plan on wearing these glasses to see the king--just for work
where something always happens to 'em!

Ever misplaced a pair of glasses, grabbed your backup and lost them?
Everything stops until at least one set is recovered.

Uncrewed the leftover part of the frame and it is the size of a nut.
I thought there might be some stem left, but no. This seems
undoable. I once repaired plastic frames by screwing an eye-screw into
the frame with a similar fracture. I wonder if I can't solder an eye
screw (looks like the letter P) in there. In the toirtoise shell
plastic glasses, the eye screw repair looked darn near invisible.

Heck, it would almost be easier to twist the frame 90 degrees and put
a hole in perpendicular to the flat side and run the screw through
that.

Eyeglass repair webs say they use gold solder.

I could almost make the temple from wire (run the screw through a
loop). If only I knew where to find "antique bronze" wire that stiff
and thick.

You need the Rx to include pupilary distance. Zenni doesn't ask for
temple size but since you are getting measured, might as well get
those numbers too.

*+-My tip: Take them off before attempting to solder them.

Have been known to be quite ambidexterous, but not THAT much!

More seriously, I would need something to hold them in place.

They don't show a frame the size I need for my lenses, but the prices are
what seems to be about right. No way a frame is worth what the local guys
are charging for them.

"Their own traders and salespeople in subprime mortgages and related
securities had put Goldman in exactly the same position as every other
Wall Street firm: long subprime mortgages.

The only difference between Goldman and everyone else was that Goldman
had, in effect, an entirely separate enterprise, sitting on top of the
firm, with the power to reverse the judgment of its own supposed
experts in various markets. They were able to do this, apparently,
without ever saying a word about it to their own traders. Instead of
telling the fools trading subprime mortgages that they are wrong, and
that they should unwind their positions, they simply offset their
trades...a lot of these so-called risk managers never really had the
power to manage risk. They had to consider the feelings, for example,
of the guys who ran subprime mortgages....

But at Goldman there were two intelligences at work: one, the ordinary
Wall Street intelligence, which was allowed to get itself in trouble,
just as at every other Wall Street firm; the other, more like an
extremely smart hedge fund that made its living off the idiocy of big
Wall Street firms, including its own people...And this second, higher
intelligence was allowed to make a mockery of the labors of the first.
I can't think of another example of a big Wall Street firm saying so
clearly through its trading positions as Goldman Sachs did over the
past year that it thinks the rest of its industry, including its own
people, is a bunch of idiots. They have obviously designed their firm
to take into account their idiocy -- without ever having to put too
fine a point on it."

"Golden Slacks made out due to sheer luck. As reported in the WSJ,
they brought an outsider in to run the mortgage department a year
before the sub-prime crisis began. This outsider (I knew him in
college, a smart guy then, but wow, no-one would have thought he had
this in him) had to drag the leadership of GS into supporting his
making a huge short position on mortgages.

The story had the ring of truth to it. The scandal is not insider
information, but that, again, the smartest guys on Wall Street knew a
lot less than they claimed to know. And a small-college hard-drinking
hockey player who never went to graduate school kicked the ass of all
the MBAs and PhDs out there. "

MAKE 100,000 DOLLARS IN DAYS!!!!!!!!
[Follow Ups] [Post Followup] [My husband is always looking at other
women] [Commitment Home] [Send us e-mail!]
Posted by RICH on June 26, 19100 at 00:57:42:

INTEGRITY CAN MAKE YOU EASY MONEY!! IT WILL!!! BUT YOU
HAVE TO FOLLOW IT TO A LETTER FOR IT TO WORK!!!!
A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you
are now, and
came across an article similar to this that said you could make
thousands of dollars
within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought,"
Yeah, right, this
must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept
reading.

Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address
stated in the
article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the
list at #6, and
post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No
catch, that was
it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I
thought about trying it.
I figured what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right?
Like most of us I
was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of
it
all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161)
and they
confirmed that it is indeed legal! Then I invested the measly $6.00.
Well GUESS
WHAT!!... within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was
shocked! I figured
it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my first
week, I made about
$25.00. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over
$1,000.00! In the
third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now
my fourth week
and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming
in rapidly. It's
certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more than that on
the lottery!!

Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it
works....also, make sure
you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information
off of it as you
need it. STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the
following on each piece
of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 6 US $1.00
bills
and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will
not be seen
through the envelope to prevent thievery. Next, place one paper in
each of the 6
envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each
with a
piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a
$1.00 bill. What
you are doing is creating a service by this. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL!
Mail the
6 envelopes to the following addresses:

#1) Syed Muaz
No 54, Jln USJ 4/1M,
47600 Subang Jaya,
Selangor, Malaysia

#2) Elmer Howard
P.O. Box 462
Auburn, ME 04212

#3) Anthony Popante
1624 West 4th Street
Brooklyn, NY 11223

#4) CASTILLO
8011 N. 7th ST. #1035
PHOENIX, AZ 85020

#5) J. Pareja
1595 Alpha drive
Melbourne, Florida 32935

#6) Derek Shu
243 Rainer Ave.
South San Francisco, Ca. 94080
STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the
other names
up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add YOUR Name as number 6 on
the list.
STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as
close to original
as possible. Now, post your amended article to as many newsgroups as
you can. (I think there
are close to 24,000 groups) remember, the more you post, the
more money you make! ---DIRECTIONS -----HOW TO POST TO
NEWSGROUPS------------ Step 1) You do not need to re-type this entire
letter to do
your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this
letter and drag your
cursor to the bottom of this document, and select 'copy' from the edit
menu. This will
copy the entire letter into the computers memory. Step 2) Open a blank
'notepad' file
and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the 'edit'
menu select 'paste'.
This will paste a copy of the letter into notepad so that you can add
your name to the
list. Step 3) Save your new notepad file as a .txt file. If you want
to do your postings
in different sittings, you'll always have this file to go back to.
Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet explorer and try searching for
various newsgroups
(on-line
forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.) Step 5) Visit these
message boards
and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of
this letter and
selecting paste from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be
the header that
everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a
particular group, click the
post message button. You're done with your first one!

Congratulations...THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different
newsgroups
and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take about 30
seconds for each
newsgroup! **REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE
MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM
OF 200** That's it! You will begin reciving money from around the
world within
days! You may eventually wany to rent a P.O.Box due to the large
amount of mail you
will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to
use, as
long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE
ADDRESSES
ARE CORRECT.**

Now the WHY part: Out of 200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies (a
very low
example). So then I made $5.00 with my name at #6 on the letter. Now,
each of the 5
persons who just sent me $1.00 make the MINIMUM 200 postings, each
with my
name at #5 and only 5 persons respond to each of the original 5, that
is another $25.00
for me, now those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4
and only
5 replies each, I will bring in an additional
$125.00! Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200
with my
name at #3 and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional
$626.00! OK,
now here is the fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM 200
letters with
my name at #2 and they each only receive 5 replies, that just made me
$3,125.00!!!
Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this message to 200 newsgroups
with my name at
#1 and if still 5 persons per 200 newsgroups react I will receive
$15,625,00! With a
original investment of only $6.00! AMAZING! When your name is no
longer on the
list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out
another $6.00 to
names on the list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start
posting again. The
thing to remember is, do you realize that thousands of people all over
the world are
joining the internet and reading these articles everyday, JUST LIKE
YOU are now!!
So can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works?? I think so...
People have said,
"what if the plan is played out and no one sends you
the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there
are tons of
new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet
and newsgroups
everyday and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at least
20,000 to 50,000 new users,
every day, with thousands of those joining the actual internet. Think
about this! If you
gamble your money away in a casino or a race track, or maybe just the
lottery...WHY?
Because we all want more $$$! RIGHT? So we risk our money! Playing it
against the odds!
NEED MONEY? Well if you have any logic and 6$ You will! You think this
is a
gamble? maybe! But its not odds your up against; INSTEAD YOUR OWN
INTEGRITY!
You NEED MONEY? Play FAIRLY and HONESTLY, WITH FULL INTEGRITY!
And you will be making some SERIOUS CASH!!!

$GO FOR IT$

I saw one of these a while back, proclaimed to get you a couple hundred
women within a couple weeks. Just take your woman, and buy her a Greyhound
ticket, and send to the guy at the top of the list. Weeks later, you'll have
all kinds of women arriving.

The six names on the list were all Bill Clinton, Little Rock Arkansas.
Anyone out there still have this? I thought it was funny.

When planning a wedding, most brides focus first on the church, lining
it with flowers and ribbons. By the time costs for the wedding are
taken care of many couple's find that they are skimming close to their
budget. It's good know that the centerpiece decorations at your
reception can not only be inexpensive, but tasteful and original.

Try this idea and score a perfect ten for creativity when planning
your centerpiece decorations. Start by buying cute small frames as you
see them on sale. Insert photos of you and your groom growing up
through the years. Guests will not only love the originality of the
idea but they will also get to see what you both looked like when you
were younger. Of course, if they have known you your entire life, then
this will give them a chance to reminisce about you.

If you are planning on a fall wedding use baskets and terra cotta pots
to add a fall touch to your centerpiece decorations. Fill the baskets
and pots with tiny pumpkins, apples, corn stalk and gourds. This will
add that little extra touch to the season while filling your table
with inexpensive decorations.

For a more romantic look, use inexpensive single fish bowls. Fill
these centerpiece decorations with water, which can be colored with
liquid dye, and add a floating candle. You may also find inexpensive
artificial flowers that can be snipped at the tops and laid around the
candles. This will create the mood of romance and add candlelight to
each of your tables.

For a Christmas time wedding, use poinsettias and gold ribbons for
centerpiece decorations. If you have extra money to spend, buy
miniature Christmas trees and decorate them with lights and wedding
charms for ornaments, which can be found at most bridal decoration
stores. Place the trees in the middle of the table and let the guests
try and guess what meaning each of the charms hold!

Let your guests get involved in your first day as man and wife by
using paper and pens as a centerpiece decoration. Buy decorated paper
and pens, placing them at each sitting. Leave instructions for the
guests to give you the best marital advice they can. You may also have
the guest make up a love poem to give you. This will get them involved
and also give you a keepsake to read on your honeymoon. You may also
add a long-stemmed rose at each place setting that they can take home
with them.

A popular trend added to centerpiece decorations are disposable
cameras with ribbons and bows tied around them. You can also type a
note to hang from the camera letting guests know to take pictures
throughout the night and then place the cameras inside a designated
box as they leave. Just imagine the different photos you will have
once the film is all developed.

No matter what you choose as centerpiece decorations, you can create a
mood and atmosphere that represents your style, at an inexpensive
price. So, hang balloons from the ceiling, let the cameras start
clicking and begin your life together with friends, family and a lot
of good times.

The Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, was born in the year 571
(according to the Gregorian calendar) in the tribe of Quraish [which
was held noble by all Arabs] in Makkah [which was considered the
religious capital of the Arabian Peninsula].

The Arabs would perform Hajj in Makkah, and circumambulate around the
Ka'bah which was built by Prophet Ibrahim and his son Prophet Ismael,
may Allah exalt their mention. The Prophet, may Allah exalt his
mention, was an orphan. His father passed away before he was born, and
his mother died when he was six years old. His grandfather, Abdul-
Mutalib, took care of him, and when he died, his uncle, Abu Talib,
took care of him. His tribe and the other tribes worshipped idols made
from stone, wood and even gold. Some of these idols were placed around
the Ka'bah. People believed that these idols could ward off harm or
extend benefit. The Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, was a
trustworthy and honest person. He never behaved treacherously, nor did
he lie or cheat; he was known amongst his people as 'Al-Ameen', or
'The Trustworthy'. People would entrust him with their valuables when
they wanted to travel. He was also known as 'As-Sadiq' or 'The
Truthful' for he never told a lie. He was well-mannered, well-spoken,
and he loved to help people. His people loved and revered him and he
had beautiful manners. Allah, the Exalted, says: (Indeed you are of a
great moral character.) [68:4] Thomas Carlyle said in his book:
'Heroes, Hero-Worship and the Heroic in History': 'But, from an early
age, he had been remarked as a thoughtful man. His companions named
him "Al Amin, The Faithful." A man of truth and fidelity; true in what
he did, in what he spoke and thought. They noted that he always meant
something. A man rather taciturn in speech; silent when there was
nothing to be said; but pertinent, wise, sincere, when he did speak;
always throwing light on the matter. This is the only sort of speech
worth speaking! Through life we find him to have been regarded as an
altogether solid, brotherly, genuine man. A serious, sincere
character; yet amiable, cordial, companionable, jocose even - a good
laugh in him withal: there are men whose laugh is as untrue as
anything about them; who cannot laugh. A spontaneous, passionate, yet
just, true-meaning man! Full of wild faculty, fire and light; of wild
worth, all uncultured; working out his life - takes in the depth of
the Desert there.'The Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, liked to
seclude himself in the cave of Hira before he was commissioned as a
prophet. He would stay there many nights at a time. He, may Allah
exalt his mention, did not practice falsehood; he did not drink any
intoxicants, nor did he bow to a statue or idol, or take an oath by
them or offer to them an offering. He was a shepherd over a flock of
sheep which belonged to his people. The Prophet, may Allah exalt his
mention, said: 'Every prophet commissioned by Allah was a shepherd
over a flock of sheep.' His companions asked him: 'Even you, O
Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Yes, I would take care of a flock of
sheep for the people of Makkah.' (Bukhari 2143) When Prophet
Muhammad, may Allah exalt his mention, turned forty, he received
divine revelation; he was at the cave of Hira. The Mother of the
believers, A'ishah, with whom Allah is pleased, said: 'The first thing
that Allah's Messenger, may Allah exalt his mention, received, while
in the Cave of Hira in Makkah, were good visions [dreams]. Every time
he had a dream, it would come true and clear, like the split of the
dawn. Later on, Allah's Messenger, may Allah exalt his mention, began
to love being alone in meditation. He spent lengthy periods for days
and nights to fulfill this purpose in the Cave before returning back
to his family. He would take a supply of food for his trip. When he
came back to his wife Khadeejah, with whom Allah is pleased, he would
get a fresh supply of food and go back to the same Cave to continue
his meditation.' 'The Truth came to him while he was in the Cave of
Hira. The Angel Jibreel, may Allah exalt his mention, came to
Muhammad, may Allah exalt his mention, and commanded him to read.
Muhammad, may Allah exalt his mention, replied, "I cannot read!"
Jibreel, may Allah exalt his mention, embraced Muhammad, may Allah
exalt his mention, until he could not breathe, and then let him go
saying: "O Muhammad! Read!" Again, Muhammad, may Allah exalt his
mention, replied: "I cannot read!" Jibreel, may Allah exalt his
mention, embraced Muhammad, may Allah exalt his mention, for the
second time. He then ordered him to read for the third time, when he
did not he embraced him tightly until he could not breathe, and then
let him go saying: "O Muhammad! (Recite with the Name of Your Rubb!
Who created, Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:
Proclaim! And your Rubb is Most Bountiful.) [96:1-3] The Messenger of
Allah, may Allah exalt his mention, returned home trembling. He
entered his home and told Khadeejah: "Cover me up, cover me up!"
Khadeejah, with whom Allah is pleased, covered Muhammad, may Allah
exalt his mention, until he felt better. He then informed her about
what happened to him in the Cave of Hira. He said: "I was concerned
about myself and my well-being." Khadeejah, with whom Allah is
pleased, assured Muhammad, may Allah exalt his mention, saying: "By
Allah! You don't have to worry! Allah, the Exalted, will never
humiliate you! You are good to your kith and kin. You help the poor
and needy. You are generous and hospitable to your guests. You help
people who are in need." Khadeejah, with whom Allah is pleased, took
her husband Muhammad, may Allah exalt his mention, to a cousin of hers
named Waraqah bin Nawfal bin Asad bin Abdul Uzza. This man became a
Christian during the Era of Ignorance. He was a scribe, who wrote the
Scripture in Hebrew. He was an old man who became blind at the latter
part of his life. Khadeejah, with whom Allah is pleased, said to her
cousin, "O cousin, listen to what your nephew [i.e. Muhammad , may
Allah exalt his mention, ] is about to tell you!" Waraqah said: "What
is it you have seen, dear nephew?" The Messenger of Allah, may Allah
exalt his mention, informed him of what he had seen in the Cave of
Hira. Upon hearing his report, Waraqah said, "By Allah! This is the
Angel Jibreel, may Allah exalt his mention, who came to Prophet Musa,
may Allah exalt his mention. I wish I would be alive when your people
will drive you out of Makkah!" The Messenger of Allah, may Allah exalt
his mention, wondered: "Are they going to drive me out of Makkah?!"
Waraqah affirmed positively saying, "Never has a man conveyed a
Message similar to what you have been charged with, except that his
people waged war against him - if I am to witness this, I will support
you." Waraqah lived only a short period after this incident and passed
away. Revelation also stopped for a while.' (Bukhari #3)The chapter
of the Qur'an quoted in the hadeeth above marks the beginning when he
was commissioned as a Prophet. Allah, the Exalted, then revealed to
him: (O you (Muhammad (may Allah exalt his mention) enveloped (in
garments); Arise and warn! And your Rubb (Allah) magnify! And your
garments purify!) [74:1-4] This chapter of the Qur'an marks the
beginning when he was commissioned as a Messenger. With the revelation
of this chapter of the Qur'an the Prophet, may Allah exalt his
mention, began calling his people to Islam openly. He began with his
own people. Some of them refused adamantly to listen to him because he
was calling them to a matter which they had not witnessed before. The
Deen of Islam is a complete way of life, which deals with religious,
political, economical and social affairs. Furthermore, the Deen of
Islam did not only call them to worship Allah alone, and to forsake
all idols and things they worshipped; rather, it prohibited them from
things they considered pleasurable, such as consuming interest and
intoxicants, fornication, and gambling. It also called people to be
just and fair with one another, and to know that there was no
difference between them except through piety. How could the Quraish
[the noblest tribe amongst Arabs] stand to be treated equally with the
slaves!! They did not only adamantly refuse to accept Islam; rather,
they harmed him and blamed him, saying that he was a crazy person, a
sorcerer and a liar. They blamed him with things they would not dare
to have blamed him with before the advent of Islam. They incited the
ignorant masses against him, and harmed him and tortured his
companions. Abdullah b. Masood, with whom Allah is pleased, said:
'While the Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, was standing up and
praying near the Ka'bah, a group of Quraish were sitting in their
sitting place, one of them said: 'Do you see this man? Would someone
bring the dirt and filth and bloody intestines from the camels of so
and so, and wait till he prostrates, and then place it between his
shoulders? The most wretched amongst them volunteered to do it, and
when the Prophet , may Allah exalt his mention, prostrated, he put the
filth between his shoulders, so the Prophet , may Allah exalt his
mention, stayed in prostration. They laughed so hard that they were
about to fall on each other. Someone went to Fatimah, with whom Allah
is pleased, who was a young girl, and informed her of what had
happened. She hurriedly came towards the Prophet, may Allah exalt his
mention, and removed the filth from his back, and then she turned
around and she cursed the Quraishites who were sitting in that
sitting. (Bukhari #498)Muneeb al-Azdi said: 'I saw the Messenger of
Allah in the Era of Ignorance saying to people: 'Say there is no god
worthy of being worshipped except Allah if you would be successful.'
There were those who spat in his face, and those who threw soil in his
face, and those who swore at him until midday. Whenever a certain
young girl came with a big container of water, and he would wash his
face and hands and say: 'O daughter do not fear that your father will
be humiliated or struck by poverty.' (Mu'jam al-Kabeer # 805)Urwah b.
az-Zubair said, 'I asked Abdullah b. Amr al-Aas to tell me of the
worst thing the pagans did to the Prophet, may Allah exalt his
mention, and he said: 'Uqbah b. Mu'ait approached the Prophet, may
Allah exalt his mention, while he was praying near the Ka'bah, and he
twisted his garment around his neck. Abu Bakr, with whom Allah is
pleased, hurriedly approached and grabbed Uqbah's shoulder and pushed
him away saying: 'Do you kill a man because he proclaims Allah as his
Rubb, and clear signs have come to you from your Rubb?' ' (Bukhari
3643)These incidents did not stop the Prophet, may Allah exalt his
mention, from giving Da'wah. He called the many tribes that came to
Makkah for Hajj to Islam. A few believed from the people of Yathrib,
which is known today as Madinah, and they pledged to support him and
help him if he chose to go with them to Madinah. He sent with them
Mus'ab b. Umair, with whom Allah is pleased, who taught them Islam.
After all the hardships that the Muslims of Makkah faced from their
own people, Allah allowed them to migrate from their city to Madinah.
The people of Madinah greeted them and received them in a most
extraordinary manner. Madinah became the Capital of the Islamic state,
and the point from which the Da'wah was spread. The Prophet, may Allah
exalt his mention, settled there and taught people Qur'anic recitation
and Islamic Jurisprudence. The inhabitants of Madinah were greatly
moved and touched by the Prophet's manners. They loved him more than
they loved their own selves; they would rush to serve him, and spend
all they had in his path. The society was strong and its people were
rich in terms of Iman (Faith) and they were extremely happy. People
loved each other, and true brotherhood was apparent amongst its
people. All people were equal; the rich, noble and poor, black and
white, Arab and non-Arab - they were all considered as equals in the
Deen of Allah, no distinction was made among them except through
piety. After the Quraish learnt of the Prophet's Da'wah and that it
had spread, they fought with the Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention,
in the first battle in Islam, the Battle of Badr. This battle took
place between two groups which were unequal in preparations and
weapons. The Muslims were 314; whereas, the pagans were 1000 strong.
Allah gave victory to the Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, and
the Companions. After this battle, many battles took place between the
Muslims and the pagans. After eight years the Prophet, may Allah exalt
his mention, was able to prepare an army 10,000 strong. They headed
towards Makkah and conquered it, and with this he defeated his people,
who had harmed him and tortured his Companions in every way. They had
even been forced to leave their property and wealth behind and flee
for their lives. He decisively defeated them, and this year was called
'The Year of the Conquest.' Allah, the Exalted, says: (When the
victory of Allah has come and the conquest, and you see the people
entering into the Deen of Allah in multitudes, then exalt him with
praise of your Rubb and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever
accepting of repentance.) [110:1-3] He then gathered the people of
Makkah and said to them: 'What do you think I will do to you?' They
answered: 'You will only do something favorable; you are a kind and
generous brother, and a kind and generous nephew!' The Prophet, may
Allah exalt his mention, said: 'Go - you are free to do as you
wish.' (Baihaqi #18055)This was one of the main reasons why many of
them accepted Islam. The Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, then
returned to Madinah. After a period of time, the Prophet, may Allah
exalt his mention, meant to perform Hajj, so he headed towards Makkah
with 114,000 Companions and performed Hajj. This Hajj is known as
'Haj'jatul-Wa'daa' or the 'Farewell Pilgrimage' since the Prophet, may
Allah exalt his mention, never performed another Hajj, and died
shortly after he performed it. The Prophet, may Allah exalt his
mention, died in Madinah on the 12th day of Rabi ath-thani in the 11th
year of Hijrah. The Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, was buried
in Madinah as well. The Muslims were shocked when they learnt of his
death; some Companions did not believe it! Umar, with whom Allah is
pleased, said: 'Whoever says that Muhammad is dead, I will behead
him!' Abu Bakr, with whom Allah is pleased, then gave a speech, and
read the words of Allah: (Muhammad is not but a Messenger. Other
messengers have passed away before him. So if he was to die or be
killed, would you turn back on your heels to unbelief? And He who
turns back on his heels will never harm Allah at all; but Allah will
reward the grateful.) [3:144]When Umar, with whom Allah is pleased,
heard this verse he stopped saying what he was saying, since he was
very keen on applying the rules of Allah. The Prophet, may Allah exalt
his mention, was 63 years old. He stayed in Makkah for forty years,
before being commissioned as a prophet. After being commissioned as a
Prophet; he lived there for another 13 years in which he called people
to Tawheed (true monotheism). He then migrated to Madinah, and stayed
there for ten years. He continuously received the revelation there,
until the Qur'an and the Deen of Islam were complete. George Bernard
Shaw said: 'I have always held the religion of Muhammad in high
estimation because of its wonderful vitality. It is the only religion
which appears to possess that assimilating capability to the changing
phases of existence which make itself appeal to every age - I have
prophesized about the faith of Muhammad that it would be acceptable
tomorrow as it is beginning to be acceptable to the Europe of today.
Medieval ecclesiastics, either through ignorance or bigotry, painted
Muhammadanism in the darkest colours. They were, in fact, trained to
hate both the man Muhammad and his religion. To them, Muhammad was an
anti-Christ. I have studied him, the wonderful man, and in my opinion,
far from being an anti-Christ, he must be called the Saviour of
humanity - '[1] Written by: Abdurrahman al-Sheha Translated

to his family.

What's "whinging". Misspelled "whining" perhaps, or "winging"?

Shutt off the water at the valve where water enters your house, or at
the meter... wrap any exposed pipe with about 2" thick insulation, if
its below 15 or 20 F outside include an electric strip heater there.

Then find a valve at the low point in the system and drain it to the
lawn..be sure its the low point...it wont help you otherwise... turn
off the water heater before you do this, those can be dangerous
without water flow.

alternatively 'heat trace' alll pipes with electric heat tracing wire
(two conductors, looks like TV antenna wire its flat) and plugs into
the the wall current. then after you heat trace, insulate with at
least 1" thick insulation.... on nights below 10F or so, open all
fawcets to keep a good sized drip going.... monitor it.

Your plumber though will offer the best advice for your local
conditions and budget.

TOPIC: What is the average annual cost of owning a car if paying cash in lump
sum in the beginning?

I buy cars that are at least 8 years old and usually keep them for 8-10 more
years. I paid $5,000 for my 1998 Subaru (in 2007) and it cost an additional
$600 in repairs/maintanance at that time. I keep my cars very well
maintained, and since I only drive 3,500-4,000 miles a year, I expect to
keep this one until 2017. I work at home and only need the car for errands
and business shopping trips, so I would never consider buying a new car. It
just wouldn't be frugal.

I've actually kept the calculations on a long-lived new Honda Civic.

It was $42K over 13 years, total purchase price and taxes
$10.8K, 220K miles. I was actualy nursing it with a couple
of $500 repairs each year. It never passed my theshhold
of repairs being worth more than the car, until it was totalled.

In my newer one, gasoline cost have become largest factor
of the operating cost at about 40-45%, even though I
average 33 mpg (winter driving brings it down).

MSN-Auto publishes five-year TCO (total operating cost)
numbers whihc includes insurance, depreciation, gas and repairs.
I dont find those numbers too far off. You have to look at TCO.
Its cheaper to drive a Korean car off the lot, but they have had
higher depreciation and repair costs until about two years ago.
If you want shock yourself- look at the TCO for an
unpopoular US SUV.

Very understandable. I've always had a used car until my current one, which
is an '05 bought new. Yes it is normally cheaper to buy used and the cost
in repairs are cheaper than car payments. But if it's an only car and you
do more miles, there's something to be said for reliability! Don't want to
be stuck hundreds of miles away from home, on a holiday weekend or in the
middle of the night :-) Especially for those who need to do the driving for
their job (fortunately I don't with the exception of driving to work!).

Of course, if bought new you'll know the maintenance you did to the car
without wondering how the previous owner took care of it. Then again,
3,500-4,000 miles are low.

And for minimal farting around. And it doesnt necessarily cost that
much if you keep the new car for a couple of decades either.

And its just convenient not to have to fart around repairing stuff too.

Doesnt necessarily have that much effect on maintenance tho.

Dear Frugal friends...

As some of you with open minds may gather from the following
paragraphs, the recent UFO sightings are just the tip of an iceberg -
in terms of stunning events that are soon to come. The billionaires
who control our national media and politicians do not want to change
the world. They like it as it is, and are hiding the information
about civilizations that are thousands of years ahead of ours, who
will help us eliminate environmental degradation war and poverty.

Soon the billionaire war profiteers will be overwhelmed and their
attempts to hide the truth will fail. The truth that they hide will
set us free - forever from the clutches of their corrupt and
incompetent politicians and all the needless misery that they cause
via war and poverty.

Just in case you didn't know...

The reasons for the [UFO] secrecy are simple: The inertia of highly
classified [government] programs, embarrassment over past illegal
actions taken to enforce secrecy, and the fact that the energy and
propulsion systems behind the mysterious UFO objects have been studied
and fully understood... and would spell the end for oil, gas, coal and
other conventional forms of power - and with that, the end of the
current oil-based geopolitical order and economy....

The full disclosure of the facts will enable humanity to attain a
sustainable civilization without global warming or the need for oil.

Dr. Steven Greer has put together a group called "the disclosure
project" with recorded testimoney from over 400 former gov't (military
& intelligence) employees who all state that they've seen, heard,
UFO's and been told to shut up about it, and that they are absolutely
willing to testify to congress about it. Their testimony can easily be
found on youtube.com - after searching on "disclosure project".

Dr. Greer's website is here: http://www.DisclosureProject.org/

Furthermore/ most importantly...

The UFOs are 100% related to the appearance of an immeasurably great
and noble person prophesied by all the world's great religions - and
known by a multitude of names.

He will soon present His credentials to an amazed world and inspire us
to rebuild the world so that it will become a great place for
everyone. He will NOT endorse any particular religion over any other.
Believe it or not Details about Him and His mission:
http://www.Share-International.org - ----------------------

Here is a copy of a recent press release from Dr. Greer's group:

http://www.DisclosureProject.org/PressReleaseNov132007-revised.htm

Note to all those receiving this second Disclosure Project press
release entitled "Insiders Expose Reasons for UFO Secrecy". Please
note that two paragraphs - those referring to Laurence Rockefeller and
to Bill and Hillary Clinton - have been removed from the second one.
The service we use for sending out press releases: PRNewswire.com
refused to send out the original press release with those references.
It was referred up the chain of command at their organization and
censored by them. When you think that we have a free press, think
again. This was not even censored by the outlets themselves, but by
the entry point to those outlets!

INSIDERS EXPOSE REASONS FOR SECRECY (Revised)

Washington, DC

Disclosure Project (www.DisclosureProject.org) Director Dr. Steven M.
Greer reports that government insiders have revealed the existence of
a shadowy, highly classified program related to UFOs.

The reasons for the secrecy are simple: The inertia of highly
classified programs, embarrassment over past illegal actions taken to
enforce secrecy, and the fact that the energy and propulsion systems
behind the mysterious UFO objects have been studied and fully
understood. This disclosure would spell the end for oil, gas, coal and
other conventional forms of power - and with that, the end of the
current oil-based geopolitical order and economy. The truth is our tax
dollars have been used to investigate this matter for decades and it
is time for a dividend on that investment. The full disclosure of the
facts will enable humanity to attain a sustainable civilization
without global warming or the need for oil.

Recent calls for a US government investigation into UFOs have not
taken into account the fact that such investigations are on-going,
highly compartmented and top-secret.

Dr. Greer states "As early as 1993, when I personally briefed CIA
Director James Woolsey on the UFO matter, we knew of on-going, secret
projects to which President Clinton and Mr. Woolsey were denied
access. The senior counsel for the Senate Appropriations Committee,
then headed by Senator Byrd (D-WV) told me directly that upwards of
$100 billion per year was going into so-called 'black' projects,
including UFO programs, but that with a top-secret clearance and a
subpoena power, he could not penetrate the veil of secrecy."

Since then, The Disclosure Project has uncovered thousands of official
US documents and over 400 top-secret military and corporate witnesses
to programs dealing with UFOs, along with project code names and
numbers. Such operations are rogue and deny access to Congressional
oversight committees.

The Disclosure Project is calling for open hearings in the Congress
and UN so that these whistle-blowers may testify. Previous government/
civilian panels, such as the Condon Committee of 1969, proved to be
white-wash operations and were penetrated by CIA involvement. Dr.
Greer states "We feel that an open hearing process would be the best
avenue for our democracy to reassert control over these rogue
operations. We have hundreds of heroic government whistle-blowers who
need to be heard."

For further information or for an interview with Dr. Greer contact:
http://www.DisclosureProject.org

########################

This is the part that was edited out:

Subsequently, working with philanthropist Laurence Rockefeller, Dr.
Greer provided in-depth briefing materials for President Clinton and
Hillary Clinton, who reviewed the matter while staying at the
Rockefeller's JY Ranch. (The briefing materials are at
http://www.DisclosureProject.org/access.htm).

Dr. Greer reports that "The Clintons refused further disclosure of the
matter. CIA Director Woolsey frankly stated that they could not
disclose programs over which they had no control or access. Mr.
Woolsey and the Clintons were shaken by the secrecy, and the power
behind it."

BENJAMIN CREME of Share International on UFOS:

Most of the UFOs visiting this planet come from Mars and Venus. Most
of them, even the Venusian ones, are made on Mars, which is a kind of
great industrial planet. All of them are of subtle, etheric, not dense
physical, matter. They can lower the vibrational rate of that matter
until it comes within the range of our sight, so for a limited period
they are visible. Normally, unless you have etheric vision, they would
be invisible, but to the Martians, the Venusians and so on, they are
visible because they are in that same kind of energy. If you went to
Mars, you would see nothing, yet there are more people on Mars than on
this planet. Their technology is thousands of years ahead of ours at
the present time, but when we have the new Technology of Light, which
will be as soon as the planet settles down, the principle of sharing
is governing and there are no wars, the Technology of Light will give
us all the energy we need directly from the sun. This is how the
people on Mars and Venus and elsewhere receive their energy. That will
speed up our evolution tremendously from a technical point of view.

Our planet has exerted on it, from a great body in space, a force
which pulls it very slightly off its axis, and if it had not been
corrected by the Space Brothers, then all life would have been very
painful; we would have had cataclysm and so on. They have put around
the planet an energetic ring of light which keeps it intact on its
axis, and so long as they patrol the planet and keep that going we are
safe. They also, so far as our karma allows, neutralize much of the
nuclear radiation which we pump into the atmosphere from our nuclear
power stations. They also go down into the oceans and neutralize waste
which we have dumped there and which otherwise would kill off marine
life and further poison the planet.

The planet is already polluted to a degree which is now dangerous.
Pollution is the greatest killer of all diseases of humanity, and much
of it is of nuclear radiation. The advice of Maitreya and the Masters
will be to close down immediately all nuclear-fission power stations
in the world. They could be replaced tomorrow with a safe, fusion,
process of nuclear power, as an interim measure before the coming
Technology of Light. from:

I'm grateful I wasn't drinking a beverage at this point.

I suppose the condo would be a getaway from the stresses of
running an evil empire?

Kill two birds with one stone -- grab a spot on the condo's
homeowner's association board.

No Rod...it has far to drop yet.

As for increasing property values, I know of people whose property
gained no value and even lost significant value during the runup.

Location and timing is always important.

And currently having property in the US and having Bush for a
President are both a bad location and bad timing.

Yes Too...

Didnt even comment on that there.

Yes, but they are a tiny minority of the total market.

Nope, not with the extent of the boom we saw thru those times.

Nope it wont be over the longer haul, you watch.

And that has absolutely NOTHING to do with Bush anyway.

Okay..the discussion is getting off track.

I too have noticed that the after holiday discounting is nonexistent.

I also noticed that the discounts up to Christmas were less than what
one normally sees.

Usually I am buying stuff for next Christmas now....at good
pricing...but not this year.

I suspect the retailers had already factored in the possibility of
sales being poor and did not order as much inventory.

Also I too have no sympathy for the blood sucking merchants.
