A hurricane passed by here in 2004 (IIRC) after which the only cellular service working was Verizon but the copper landline was fully functional and would power "old fashioned" telephones. A hurricane passed pretty close by in 2017 and once again the only cellular service working was Verizon and my neighbor's backup battery for his FiOS DAC lasted almost an hour of standby time. >Nyssa, who doesn't trust a cell phone during a long power >outage either Wife and I have two. One, a prepaid, goes with whichever of us is away from the hovel alone. The other is the "home" phone and adds to the mix whenever we're out together. Both charge via their USB ports so wall warts, car and solar chargers are readily available inexpensively and, most importantly, add one more bit of clutter to our lives :-) -- Derald ...the only traits that are passed down in your family are perversity, ego-centrism, laziness and sociopathic tendencies. --Lynn Barton, Filedheacht Music School, East Bridgewater, MA July, 2016 |
