That's exactly what we are going through now. The Christians supported
the war and now we are in big debt. All the basic services, like
hospitals and public transportation are cut down.
If they had taxed the fuel up front, we wouldn't be in this mess. It
is said, "the Democrats tax and the Republicans borrow," but nobody
messes with taxing gasoline.

I'm AGAINST cyclists on the sidewalk. They need to be on the road,
having a traffic lane to play it safe. Cyclists are pushed to the
sidewalks looking for safety and then nobody is safe, not even
themselves.
Banning cyclists from the sidewalks would a first step toward solving
the problem. Then they either tame traffic or the carnage would be too
much for the system to bear.

I have many places to go, starting with the nudist beach. Then all the
shops and parks around.
Remember the name of the campaign:

More likely the lack of influence of poor and/or illiterate Americans.
Apparently there were only 400 votes cast for some of the more
outrageous arrangements, with 250+ being cast by city employees.
Never underestimate the power of the shitheads to take advantage of the
ignorant or stupid.

Hardly relevant and pretty unlikely. I prefer the machines unless I
have LOTS of the same item (the human checker is faster). Then it's a
tradeoff between the number of people in line at the regular checkstands
and the nuisance of having to repeatedly pass the same item over the
sensor until it finally gets read and listening to the simpy woman's
voice giving instructions. I want Darth Vader or Mistress Helga, not
Pollyanna.

Think about it and you will realize that the conflict that we cyclists
endure (the car just has the easy handle) is the result of the
contested strip "to the right of the road," which is to say THE AREA
BOTH PARTIES CONTEST, ONE TO SURVIVE, THE OTHER TO SAVE TIME. I've
been riding the minimum distance from the curb and they still blow the
horn. Medium distance, they blast the horn. TAKING THE LANE... THEY GO
INTO A RAGE. So it is that in this grinding war of nerves, some get
crushed, some survive with bruises...

LYRICS
"NO MAN'S LAND"
Headin' in or headin' out
Standing on the shore
Pause a moment to reflect
Which trip costs you more
Between the ever restless crowds
And the silence of your room
Spend an hour in no man's land
You'll be leaving soon
Victims come and victims go
There's always lots to spare
One victim lives the tragedy
One victim stops to stare
And still another walks on by
Pretending not to see
They're all out there in no man's land
'Cause it's the safest place to be
But sanctuary never comes
Without some kind of risk
Illusions without freedom
Never quite add up to bliss
The haunting and the haunted
Play a game no one can win
The spirits come at midnight
And by dawn they're gone again
And so it seems our destiny
To search and never rest
To ride that ever changing wave
That never seems to crest
To shiver in the darkest night
Afraid to make a stand
And then go back and do our time
Out there in no man's land
