I don't know about bikes, but the Bible states quite clearly that
Dolan and the Monkey won't be there. Cf. Revelation 8:1

You obviously have no conception of My Greatness. The Monkey (TM) is a total
asshole-idiot. I, on the other hand, am a total Great Saint. Jeez, try to
get things straight why don't you.

Dolan won't be there because he's too great and God may fear
competition.

I just don't want to be there.

I quote above from the Yahoo comments. It always happens that way: The
King of the Jungle claims his lion's share and relies on FEAR, until
something clicks and all hell breaks loose. It's a millenarian
tradition in Egypt since the pharaohs dilapidated the treasure in
building pyramids. Here I quote another comment, which is not verified
but very funny:

"Looters dress up the mummies like clowns and set them on fire in
Egyptian Museum."

If you think about it, mummies are past tyrants and high priests. I
think people should go to Egypt to enjoy its culture and scenery, not
long dead big shots who were lying to the people. Perhaps people have
gone mad about everything, including their past, and decided to make a
circus out of it. Hell yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see some
mummies come out dancing in the streets.

I watch with great excitement as the people rise and get rid of the
lion --hopefully-- but then I've never seen revolutions that brought
something good and practical for the people. Sure, housing and good
food are part of the balance, and so is the way to burn the calories
and keep the doctor away. That's another hungry lion, at least in a
for-profit medical industry.

Anyway, if you know any Egyptian, tell him this. Also tell him that my
wisdom is older than the pyramids, since the Law of the Jungle has
been around for ever --possibly before Adam & Eve.

And did Bush get elected? Let's face it what people want is war.

Bicycles don't get you elected in America. It has to be brought by
revolution somewhere else, where Jesus is NOT a drug.

Hi,

I'm trying to get pre-approved for a loan so I can buy a condo. The
real estate I was referred to referred me to a mortgage broker, who
told me to bring some work history, tax forms, some other stuff and a
$450 application fee. This got me thinking about how would you find
the cheapest way to get the best loan? I have heard of services like
Lending Tree and DiTech but I'm really not sure how those work and
would value some opinions about the what steps you would take.

Thanks, - Dave

Buddhism (and an MP3 player) may come handy to ignore those drivers

The MP3 player is from my own school of wisdom.

You should study the religious beliefs of primitive peoples. Christianity is
a light year advancement on that. Zoroastrianism has always appealed to me
personally.

Yup, way too simple for the human mind. We love complexity and we create it
wherever we go.

Buddhism is a failed religion by anyone's standards. In fact it is more a
dead philosophy than anything else. It has died out nearly everywhere. Tibet
was the last bastion and China is rapidly stamping it out even there.

It's a good past time for the yuppies as well as a fairly good
business enterprise. Watch 'Eat, Pray, Love' and see what all the
bullshit is about.

The Dalai Lama still draws a large audience to hear his wisdom,
however little is compared to mine. The jungle is the reality but the
well-to-do don't want to hear about it.

I buzz cut my hair myself every couple weeks , in fact did that today.
Once it gets a tiny bit long it bugs the heck out of me....

Use a fusion shaver in the shower. I hate shaving, if there was a way
to end beard growth I would happily spend the money...... what a PIA:(

I hate to add more devices to your TV stream, but what would likely
clear up your picture is an antenna booster. You can buy something
like this for $10-30 or $1 at a garage sale. Only a small boost will
keep the signal up enough. You could also experiment with placing an
aluminum reflector near your antenna. This can be made by taking a
piece of cardboard and covering it with tin foil. Before you get done
your bedroom will look like Sanford and Son's back yard. I'm willing
to do these things to save a buck. When the old TVs go bad, I'll buy
something nice and new.

Just because a state has a "high risk" pool does NOT
mean you will be able to afford it!!!

That'll change in 2014 with the new health care bill, unless the Repubs get

Even normal big company provided health insurance is basically
unaffordable for low wage workers.
Not even talking about "high risk."
Family coverage, which still has deductibles and other costs if you
use the insurance, typically runs $100 a week.
So for a $10 an hour wage earner, that's 25% of his/her gross pay.

My wife is a chef in a large corporation (+120,000 U.S. employees) and
makes about $13 an hour.
Employee +1 insurance costs about 20% of her gross.
Except for her manager, she's the highest paid team member in the
kitchen.
She works there, and is locked into that job mostly to provide us with
insurance.
That's okay for us. I'm getting SS and have retirement savings.
And she's young and healthy enough to still enjoy her work.
We figure the 20% of her gross is "keep your house" insurance.

But none of the others on her team can afford the insurance.
They all take their kids and themselves to the emergency room for
medical treatment.
Of course they don't get normal yearly check ups either.

When I was working, the same $100 week insurance was 4% of our income,
and wasn't even noticed.
It's really funny when I see a bunch of TV talking head millionaires
sitting around and saying "The U.S. has the best health care in the
world," and "We have to cut Medicare and SS benefits for all old
people," and "The retirement age must be raised to 70."
At the same time they have huge hissy fits about raising taxes on the
wealthy by a few points.
But the funniest thing is how folks like them get voted into office.
Check out the wealth of the members of Congress.
Pretty much says it all about why lower income folks are going to the
emergency room and losing their houses.
But Americans can vote, so they get exactly the politicians they
deserve.
There's a sucker born every minute. Truer words were never spoken.

I agree that Ulcerative Colitis will cause companies to reject you;
it happened to me too. I have a history of Ulcerative Colitis and so I
got into a high risk pool in my state. 10k deductible, $313/mo premium.

That is absolutely the last option available to me, but I have to have
it to protect my life savings as best I can. You would not do this?

I've never been dissatisfied with any Costco/Kirkland product. I am
pissed, however, that they stopped carrying Knott's preserves which are
WAYYYY better than Smucker's, and Stagg chili which is better than any
other kind I've tried.

I have no problem with traditions. Ultra Orthodox traditions are very
strong.

But actually believing that there is some all knowing ultra smart
being is crazy. A christian friend of mine was just telling me that God
knew I was going to say what I did, but I still had free will. Believing
such is lunacy, following traditions is not.

I know more that the average. Even on tests of religion:

Like most atheists, I scored well, missed only one.

I have nothing against Mormons either. But what they believe is even
crazier.

a lot of people in industrial societies are rejecting their traditions and
turning to buddhism.

you dont have to believe in anything except that there is a higher state of
consciousness (which we all know from those flashes of insight right? ) and
the means to that, is controlling your arbitrary thoughts through
meditation.

they say just try relaxing your mind and see what happens?

too simple isn't it ?

Yes.

Nope, fuck all are doing that. MANY more are giving up on any god at all.

I have seen no evidence that there is.

Its just another crutch for pathetically inadequate 'minds'

Wrong. We 'know' nothing of the sort. Those are just how the mind works.

I dont want to control my arbitrary thoughts, they can be very useful at times.

I do that all the time. Dont need meditation or buddhism to do that.

Mindlessly superficial, actually.

Buddhism (and an MP3 player) may come handy to ignore those drivers
who harass you for riding a bike.

The MP3 player is from my own school of wisdom.

Ditch the electric razor and get a good multi-blade non-electric razor
instead. I gave up on electrics years ago. None of them shave anywhere
near as close as a good blade does.

Well, God knows, the personal hygiene practices of the American
continents' indigenous peoples are on the top of my list to emulate;
not. The Roman Romans abraded their beards away with pumice dust.
Personally, I'm not likely to mimic them, either.

Well, aside from the risks of scarring and infection, they grow
back so you get to do it all again.
In my view, if you want a shave, ditch the 'lectric and use an
actual razor, "safety" or otherwise. Takes about the same amount of
time and results in a "shave" instead of a "close mowing".
In the late 1970's the exhorbitant prices of disposable shaving
paraphernalia induced me to try a "cutthroat" straight razor. After a
brief period of negligible blood loss ;-), I was hooked. Still using
the same razor, strap and hone. Although my lifestyle allows me to
shave if and when I please, I appreciate the discipline of having to
do at least one thing absolutely "right".

Wow. Really cheap. I was paying $3k a year back in the mid 90s. I can't
legally buy anything except a "do everything" policy because I live in the
Nanny State. And I make $500 a year too much to qualify for the state
sponsored plans, and I don't have kids. In my state, if you don't have kids,
you don't exist.

Maybe you're fortunate, healthy through and through. Or maybe you're like
me. I didn't see a doctor for pushing a couple of decades, felt fine. One
day, walking from the commuter train to the office I felt chest pains, two
days later I woke up in a hospital room after having a triple bypass. It
cost only $60,000 a dozen years ago, probably would be more today.
Fortunately, I did have health insurance, and I didn't pay a thing for the
hospital stay, operation, rehab, etc. I don't know if seeing a doctor
periodically would have prevented the need for a bypass. I do know that,
given the need, insurance makes a whale of a difference.

I still have follow-up visits every six months, the bill for each is around
$1,200, and I don't pay for them either. Annual medication comes to around
$10,000/year, and the insurance pays that as well. I do have to pay
co-pays, it comes to a few hundred bucks a year.

I woke up one night with discomfort in my lower back. Over the course of
the next hour or two, it became excruciating pain. An ambulance ride to the
emergency room, a doctor, a cat scan, I had a kidney stone. 59 years old,
not a hint of such a thing in my medical history, or in the history of my
extended family. A day in the emergency room, lots of pain killing drugs,
and it passed - smaller than a grain of table salt. Bill came to several
thousand bucks - covered by insurance. It's happed two more times, the last
time I spent three days in the hospital, had to have a "procedure" (that's
what they call it) to get the stone out. Have you priced a day in a
hospital lately? Me neither, but insurance covered it all. And now I see
an urologist every six months because I don't want to go through that again.
Guess who pays for those visits? The insurance, not me.

My granddaughter was having "stomach aches", it turned out she needed her
gall bladder removed (at sixteen). This year, she had an ovarian cyst (at
eighteen).

Don't see a doctor if you don't want. But life can turn on a dime. You
might be healthy, but maybe not, you can be injured through no fault of your
own, things just go wrong unexpectedly. You're playing Russian roulette.

I think it depends on the state. I have read that 32 states have some
form of high risk pool, which means 18 states don't have them. Does
your state have a high risk pool?

I live in NY and for the most part get excellent pictures with the box
off my indoor and outdoor antennas ( i have 2 separate box's for each
TV ). In the old days, there was always the problems with
'ghosts'...seeing halo's around a figure. Now, with these box's we
lose usually at most inopportune times the dialogue and if the
picture is fine, the audio pops in and out. ..so what was the point of
these conversions..instead of ghosts, now it pixels. At least with
ghosts, the audio was in tact.

Mine doesnt.

Lots more channels, much longer distances from the transmitter, with
a properly implemented system, no audio dropouts or pixellation at all.

> instead of ghosts, now it pixels.

Dont get any of those myself in the bad sense. All
systems have pixels, even the old analog system does.

My audio is fine. And no ghosts either. And its a hell a lot easier to record as well.

Those boxes aren't worth the cardboard they come in. Break open your
wallet and buy modern LCD HD televisions. You'll probably make back the
money is just power savings alone.

These are older crt tv sets and this is a frugal forum isn't it? why
should I throw away good tv sets cause the government made changes? As
frugal as i may be, i have a 55'' lcd hd tv for your information...i
am talking about bedroom and kitchen tv sets where a box is needed.

This guy argues that he's a Conservative Jew --as opposed to the
Christians-- and he too opposes Universal Healthcare, so he's
consistent with the Conservative Christians.

The trouble with Florida is too many shitheads like TM. A few fascists never
hurt anybody. In fact, taken in the proper dosages, such types are good for

You are responding to a Tom Sherman post, not an Ed Dolan post. All Tom
Sherman knows is Wisconsin and Illinois. He does not know shit about
Minnesota other than Minneapolis where he bought all of his Sunset
recumbents. He probably roots for the g.d. Packers, not the g.d. Vikings!

Nope, you lived on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities. The Quebec

Well, I will admit I have always liked Duluth. The geographic aspect of the
city is amazing. I used to watch the birds swooping by on the high cliffs
that overlook the city.

Nonsense, you posted from the Quad Cities, Illinois side. Do you not even
know which side of the Mississippi River you were on? Damn it, we all know

Note how Mr. Sherman never tells anyone anything. He is probably smart to
play it that way since he is still in the work force and I am capable of
skewering him if he is not careful. However note how I tell everyone
everything. That is because I don't give a good god damn about what anyone
thinks or says. Some day perhaps Mr. Sherman will enter into my universe of
wisdom, but not yet. He is as always a twerp and a twit. He has all the
courage of a mouse. My contempt for him only grows and grows.

Right, just keep on saying nothing about nothing. But why post anything if
you don't want to be read. You are truly one strange fucked-up character.

Don't keep what does not have some real value to you. What you do keep find a
use for in your home. If you really need storage space why not purchase a small
metal shed or a maybe one of the larger wooden ones. Why pay for someone else's
mortgage? If living in an apartment, find more creative methods to store in the
space available. Overstuffed furniture tends to have lots of empty space that
can be used with a little work.

It's really pretty straight forward. I've been renting storage
lockers from a Public Storage facility near my home off and on for
over twenty years. Never had any problems.

a. Make sure you pay your rent on time every month without fail. I
pay in person at least two or three days early. If I'm renting for
more than a month or two, and have the money, I pay the first few
months in advance. Keep your receipts. Don't get into a "the check
is in the mail" situation. You'll lose that one every time.

b. Inspect the unit BEFORE you sign the rental agreement. Look for
evidence of water damage - leaks and/or flooding. If you see any, ask
for another unit or find another facility.

c. Buy a good quality key operated high security pad lock at a
hardware store. Take it with you, and put it on your unit when you
sign the rental agreement, even if you don't plan on moving your stuff
in right away.

d. Make sure the manager has your current address and phone number.
Keep it updated.

e. Keep a detailed inventory of what's stored there.

f. Make sure someone else in your family knows where the locker is,
and where you store the key and inventory. If you have to sign in at
the office to get to the locker you should have at least one other
authorized person listed.

g. Inspect the locker and contents regularly. I check mine when I
pay the rent.

h. The storage facility IS NOT responsible for loss or damage (theft,
fire, flood, etc.) of the stuff you have stored there. There will be
language to that effect in your rental agreement. They may even have
you sign a separate document saying you understand that. If want to
be covered for losses you'll have to add a rider to your home owners/
renters policy. Expect your rates to go up.

i. When you're done with it, make sure the locker is completely empty
on or before the last day of the rental period.

Good luck.

evidence of water damage - leaks and/or flooding.

Good luck.

Bingo, if you don't have to look smart it's way easier to forego the
chore.

I can barely make it to three weeks before running the hair clippers
over head and face. Beards are indeed most irritating.

If hair is a real problem a lot of people male and female have had
success losing hair after using the anti-cholestrol wonder drug
Lipitor, including myself.
