Yes, I used to have AOL as a LD provider. They sent me a 50 check in
the mail to sign up, but failed to mention the charges were $10 a
month for no calls. After about a year of paying $10 a month for
nothing, I discovered a (pay as you use) LD service you just dialed on
the phone and were only charged 10 or 20 cents a minute. So, I called
AOL to inquire about dropping the service and the representative
indicated they would waiver the minimum charges if I stayed with AOL.
I asked why the waiver was not explained earlier, and he said:
"because you didn't ask".

Just don't go to T-Mobile, I hear AT&T is buying them out.

It is said that once you believe in God, you can believe anything --
even the lies about Iraq-- and their president sure enough promoted
this clever idea:

Or in Bush's idea of conquering space so we can colonize other worlds

Hopefully he was bullshitting about this one. But the Christians
believed it. This is the same Conservatives who say, "NO MORE TAXES!"

Isn't the idea LUNATIC? It looks so from my Beach Cruiser...

The only long term hope for our...errr...my species, is getting off
planet. Thinking otherwise is simply being short-sighted.

BTW, I'll bet you that within our lifetimes the word lunatic will
undergo a complete reversal in meaning. Just so's ya know, I plan on
living a long time. Bet accordingly.

Colonizing space is not the same as the shuttle program. Colonization
means permanent bases in the Moon or elsewhere.

But don't worry, Bush was bullshitting...

Anolon nonstick cookware seems more durable than most. It uses DuPont
Autograph 2.
Here's DuPont's page describing their current teflon coatings and
inviting email inquiries.

Why?

I had two consecutive non-stick frying pans, and I took care of them,
but the coating came off both times, if I recall the second one lasted
a fairly short time.

I got a cheap stainless steel frying pan with an aluminum plate on the
bottom and it works fine, and I don't expect it to somehow go bad. I paid
something like ten dollars for it at some small kitchen store during a
sidewalk sale. I was so happy with that, I bought a nice pot with
steamer insert for about $20 at a similar store and sale, again with
a nice aluminum plate on the bottom.

I don't miss the non-stick, indeed I think I got the non-stick frying
pans mostly because that's what there was at a price I was willing
to spend.

Because its handy to not have to bother using any oil etc.

Because I don't want to scratch off the coating with steel utensils and
you don't actually need them if the coating actually works.

I'd like to avoid that. I hate to throw things away and I'll suffer
using crap rather than pitch it in the trash before it's annoyed me for
at least a couple of years.

I've got some nice pans that I'm careful with, but they're too big for
most things. I want it for pancakes, scrambled eggs, etc. The eggs are
a real bitch.

I gave up on Teflon a long time ago. I use Calphalon hard anodized
aluminum pans for most things now. You still need to use a little oil,
but most stuff washes off readily.

As I was watching this program about the evolution, I realized that
the same difference in brain size that exists between monkeys and homo
sapiens could be the one that exists between homo sapiens and
Christians, assuming Christians are a different species.

But you may want to check it out yourself...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBTQGMvEQGw

I mean there's a good chance that there's a physical difference
between believers and nonbelievers. What made the Christians stop the
evolutionary clock, while the rest of us thrived on change and
capitalized on creativity? HOW MANY SCIENTISTS ARE FOUND AMONG THE
CHRISTIANS?

Bless the wheel that went to work on the Beach Cruiser. This is based
on Einstein's theories:

"Since the ratio of car mass to passenger mass for a single passenger
vehicle is roughly 15 : 1, the overall efficiency of a car system (its
ability to move your carcass down the road) is 0.10 x 1/15, or
somewhat less than one percent. Say 2/3 of 1 percent. Multiply this by
the number of passengers.

So, good rule of thumb, a car is 1% efficient. Incredible, isn't it?"

In America Christian means Conservative. They refuse new ideas and
oppose any liberal initiative out there.

They voted en masse for Bush and generally oppose Obama, however timid
his initiatives are. For example, he should promoted the Single Payer
universal healthcare system and end of story. Germany --the pioneer in
universal healthcare-- has a mixed system that also makes sense. Obama
though --in order to compromise-- ended up with an expensive and
complicated system that now the Conservatives are attacking with low
balls such as the "Death Panels"...

Hey, Euthanasia makes a lot of sense but Obama is far from daring to
go that far...

http://pumabydesign001.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/death-panel-obamacare.jpg

Liberal humanist societies don't have a problem with that as they as
they don't have a problem over people smoking marijuana or having
abortion. Of course, nobody is promoting that either, but education is
the best medicine. The Christians, though, have the practice of
wanting the child to be born and then deny him decent healthcare --
such as Bush did. Not a Christian blinked in protest. Hey, they even
reject the First Lady for educating the people to be healthy. They
insist on being fat and dumb.

As I said, smaller brains.

I don't want to pick on the Christians or any religious person, but
they would be the first ones to ask, "bi-what"? Nowhere in the
Biblical mythology is the bipedal condition --the fact of walking on
two feet-- given any consideration, so it is assumed that we were made
this way by God.

Actually, I'm watching this Nova series, "Becoming Human," and they
point out that BIPEDALISM was the first thing that separated us from
the monkey in the trees. It was an adaption to a changing environment
where the jungles were dwindling. And guess the main reason... SAVING
ENERGY! Bipedalism is so much more efficient than walking "on all
four."

Extrapolate that 6 million years to the present, and you will notice
that bipedalism is being denied before a changing environment --aka
Climate Change, which the religious also dismiss as a conspiracy. We
drive a car --the bigger the better, to signal high status-- and the
mundane bipedal is nowhere to be found in our deserted cities. Then
the wheel is also denied when we try to be bipedal on a bike. Notice,
the bicycle has two pedals AND it saves energy. It couldn't be a
coincidence, right?

So it is that the Homo Sapiens Sapiens is kept in the cage unable to
roam free. Remember these words from the Wise TibetanMonkey,
"Evolution or Revolution!"

Just grab a banana and some peanuts and go out to shake off that
belly. You will see the world differently and may find the true Wisdom
of the Jungle. Revolutions for the Planet.

Check it out for yourself...

"ADAPT OR DIE!"... it's an immutable law of nature.

Keep it up, girl!

You are a heroine if you ride among the aggressive drivers. We are
trying to tame the beast, you know.

You think this could be a good symbol for the revolution...

Beach cruisers are like Tantra, the longer the ride the better. ;)

Well, what if they charged you $600? Would a charge like this be
considered acceptable? There should be regulations on businesses for
putting up traps like this and perhaps AT&T found a loophole. If these
kind of unsavory business practices are the only way to make money
nowadays in long distance then perhaps they should just get out of the
LD business altogether since there's no legitimate money in it anymore.
The only way to make money is via deceit and trickery which is a rather
unsavory way of conducting business. I'd at least write a letter to
whatever entity is supposed to regulate AT&T which is still considered
to be a local loop monopoly provider. You may not get anything from it
other than maybe someone somewhere will take a look into this.

I dropped LD about 8 years ago and never looked back. Calling cards are
convenient, cheap, and you know what you're paying for. I wouldn't even
trust those telephone bastards with a cell contract so I go pre-paid on
that as well. In a few months my land line goes bye bye and then I'll
be free of the AT&T monopoly.

Isn't this the right revolution?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzCjGgrewYY

Or it simply says nothing to avoid a commitment? I'm in a permanent
state of revolution, and I know the institutions are in need of
change. Leave the Constitution. Forget about Che and Mao. Ride a bike
or bus and switch the priorities from the car.

One cyclist I approached yesterday said avoiding commitment, "You must
change yourself first." And I replied, "We do by riding a bike, but we
are under constant attack from the institutions. We must do what it
takes to survive."

INDIVIDUALISM has grown to alarming levels since 1968 judging by the
SUVs and Gated Communities found almost everywhere. Funny, the virus
is not everywhere, and a Canadian from Montreal tells me that they
making great advance in bike facilities and that they have no Gated
Communities.

I tell you, the revolution to me means first of all no Gated
Communities, regulated SUVs and great bike and public transportation
infrastructure. We can also say Curitiba, Brazil, is going through a
Revolution because it changes the reality of transportation, not
Venezuela. The latter is like America: CHEAP GAS FOR THE MASSES or you
lose the reelections.

The case is that American advocates can pick between the Japanese
model, the Dutch model or something else.

Actually I favor something else: TAKE THE LANE FOR SERIOUS BICYCLING,
LET THE CARS WORRY ABOUT YOU. Automatic blame is placed on driver
until proven otherwise. Notice, NO INVESTMENT IN STUPID
INFRASTRUCTURE.

On the other hand slow beach cruisers and folding bikes can be OK on
sidewalks. Haven't the clever Japanese found out that the folding
bikes don't need parking lots. Well, the Dutch haven't found out that
they are the best solution for theft, a big problem in the
Netherlands.

That's true. But their revolution is all about taxes and the price of
gas.

They'll only rebel when the gallon hits 8 bucks. And they are OK with
borrowing from China.

Your "rebellion boiling point" is 8 bucks the litre of "petrol."

Gee, why haven't you converted to the American system?

Why haven't the Yanks converted to SI units yet, which nearly every
other country in the world use?

Yep, it's a pain in the arse when looking for a tool for the bike, but
I think our system is blessed by God. Things are the way they are,
period.

I heard Reagan had an opportunity to fix that but I don't remember.

Yeah, he sure did. But we can't blame it on stupidity as he was trying
to save "taxpayers money," and that is a sacred cow.

Money --in the Conservative psyche-- is only well spent in weapons.
But are they metric or standard?

You don't even have proper gallons in the US, as they are only about
83% of the volume of a UK Imperial Gallon! Makes the gas guzzling mpg
figures of a V8 SUV seem even more impressive!

What better way for America not to be part of the British Empire to
renounce the Imperial Gallon. I don't know, but it seems like many
Americans would think of the metric system as one world government
(socialism).

Some question that view though:

So Reagan --and the Conservative psyche-- seems to have been very dumb
to miss that opportunity. We can still make it happen, right?

Obama is not in a position to defend that though. He'll be eaten alive.

The most common system for nuclear missiles though seems to be metric:

"The kiloton and megaton of TNT have traditionally been used to rate
the energy output, and hence destructive power, of nuclear weapons
(see nuclear weapon yield). This unit is written into various nuclear
weapon control treaties, and gives a sense of destructiveness as
compared with ordinary explosives, like TNT."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TNT_equivalent

So in that sense the Conservatives are up to date.

Metric and Imperial tons are only about 2% different by a happy
accident of history, so no need to worry about kilotons and megatons.

I'm not asking the Conservatives --like Ed-- to be converted to my

This could NOT be coincidence: SLOW RHYTHMIC MOVEMENT (hammock, beach
cruiser, tantric love) gives you ecstasy and wisdom.

and here the latest on Solar
According to Lusk, "We can now design nanostructured materials that
generate more than one exciton from a single photon of light, putting to
good use a large portion of the energy that would otherwise just heat up
a solar cell."
The research team, which includes participation from the National
Renewable Energy Laboratory, is part of the NSF-funded Renewable Energy
Materials Research Science and Engineering Center at the Colorado School
of Mines in Golden, Colo. The center focuses on materials and
innovations that will significantly impact renewable energy
technologies. Harnessing the unique properties of nanostructured
materials to enhance the performance of solar panels is an area of
particular interest to the center.
"These results are exciting because they go far towards resolving a
long-standing debate within the field," said Mary Galvin, a program
director for the Division of Materials Research at NSF. "Equally
important, they will contribute to establishment of new design
techniques that can be used to make more efficient solar cells."

And even then you might end up wasting money on something you can't use.
My mom bought some of the expensive programmable ones. She went in
for several adjustments and they never found a setting that was less
annoying than her hearing problem (loss of high frequency). They're
still there sitting in the original box with the original batteries
(yes, swung out -- maybe I can use them when I grow up).
