We went mattress shopping last week. I was rather stunned to find out
they doi NOT make them for regular people. They make them for kings,
queens, and twins. We are just average working people. Not even close to
being a king or queen. And we dont have any twins either. We tolds the
salesman that we just want an average mattress, but he said "I showed
you what I have". We just left.

Since then, I have called several other mattress stores and it seems all
of them only sell mattresses for kings, queens, and twins.

Where to average people go to buy a mattress?

Not just theory, it's true. Unless your income is $150K+, in which case
you have to pay at least 110% of your previous year's tax liability to
avoid a penalty. I don't think this will help most of these people though.
They got a tax cut and likely paid less in withholding than the previous
year, less beyond the actual cut, which is what lead to most of the problems
to begin with.

Totally missing in all the mainstream media discussion of the smaller rebates
is the issue that just because you got a smaller refund doesn't mean that
you paid more in taxes. Most people got a tax cut. The problem is that the
law changed how taxes are calculated and unless you estimated your taxes and
looked at your withholding to make sure it was still correct, you could wind
up paying in less in withholding, beyond the tax cut that you actually got.
But the lib media would rather run around with the story limited to
"tax refunds" being smaller. Never mind that the person typically is also
paying less in tax. And a smaller refund is a good thing. It means you
had the money during the year, not the govt. The real problem is for those
where their withholding was so far out of whack that they owe money and
possibly a penalty too.

I read that there will be amnesty for at least some (maybe most/all)
underpayment penalties for TY2018 because so many taxpayers did not
adjust or incorrectly adjusted their withholding (I did not adjust for
TY2018, but have not yet determined if I underpaid - I did adjust for
TY2019).

Theory has it that if you prepay the amount of last year's total tax
liability there's no penalty. File quarterlies and keep your own money
a few months longer.

It's amazing how wimpy modern men have become. Hot water is a LUXURY,
not a necessity. Take 2 or 3 cold baths or showers and your body will
adapt to it. But you are too accustomed to living the life of luxury,
and luxury is a waste of money, energy, and resources.

Until the late 1800s, hardly anyone had hot water in their homes. Even
before World War 2, most people just heated some water on a kitchen wood
stove and put it into a small tub to bathe. And then, a whole family
used the same bath water. They bathed once a week or less, and they
survived.

Stop making excuses to have luxury items, and call them NECESSARY.

Well, I'm far too old to be a millennial, but maybe a hippie if you
just count persons born during WW2. I don't think that's what you
really mean though. Maybe "Yuppie" or "Yuppette" would be more
accurate.

Personally I shop at WF for the visual impact of the gorgeous, young,
well-dressed female millenials and their offspring. Even the older
Yuppettes are passable with bodies honed by hours in the gym, makeup
by movie-level professionals and clothing from the Upper East Side
boutiques. Only Fairway comes even close and then you have to exclude
the "mistakes" they made in situating some stores in the ghetto. In
both WH and Fairway you can sit and ogle while having a nice
cappuccino. Oh I forgot Trader Joe but there you don't have a cafe and
you have to go on a Saturday for the ogle parade.

But back to the food and prices at WF. Their 365 line is often cheaper
and better than other supermarkets even in the ghettos. Milk, frozen
pizzas, frozen fish, potatoes, pineapples, cantaloupes, and avocados
(at the moment) are all lower in price and better in quality than any
other store I go to. Some cakes too but my local Italian bakery beats
them on both quality and price for bread and similar. I wouldn't buy
toilet paper, paper towel or laundry detergent from them though.

But Bev, I seem to remember a conversation some years ago with you and
(IIRC) Trader wherein you commented that you went to an upscale French
restaurant, had a meal, and then remarked that you were so hungry
afterwards that you had to have a fill-up meal from a nearby Chinese
take-out. Ugh!

Not Chinese, McDonald's. If I'd known how good the broccoli with

Key paragraph here:
"With slowing economic growth here and abroad, deflationary forces should
intensify, especially with global total debt at a record relative to gross
domestic product. The World Bank and International Monetary Fund have both
revised lower their forecasts for worldwide economic growth this year and
next."

Deflation and massive debt are the recipe for global economic disaster. The
world's central bankers have been pouring gasoline on a fire by expanding
debt over the last eleven years.
