So you're going to stick with the proposition that the dismal
performance of US healthcare with newborns which improves smoothly to
good performance with 80 year olds, is due to obesity and diabetes;
but attribute that epidemic of obese diabetic newborns who lose weight
and become undiabetic over 80 years to... demographics. Yep, it's the
Meskins with their penchant for diabetic babies.

Aw c'mon, the poor guy is cursed with some disease that keeps him
indoors all day with no contact with people except for an usenet
account. I mean there's no other reason anybody would resort to such a
pathetic simulacrum of human interaction, right?

How about cleaning up some of the fraud in the systems?

Eg how does a medical service justify this: Draw one sample of blood,
run it once through one machine, which gives 4 separate readings.
Whoopie. Bill for 4 tests!

Get a social security # and it's the entry to the Golden Goose
Medicare Land. Not too long ago one enterprising medical care
provider billed GG for 280 procedures on a person he'd never met.

Or the patient dying of emphysema who had to be lifted from the gurney
to the operating table for his $8,000 hip replacement. He lasted 2
weeks.

I guess that qualifies me as a bleeding heart liberal....

Tests aren't free, even if some of the work is done at the same time
by the same machine.

I've been billed by *many* doctors I've never met. That's the way
things work. They don't all come by to shake your hand first.

Most people are lifted from the gurney onto the operating table. It

And the machine that tests for 4 things obviously

PayPal leaves much to be desired. But then again they are a subsidiary
of EBay, which to me explains much.

I agree PayPal sucks, I was on the phone for 15 minutes ranting to the survey guy. He didn't like it but he put up with it.

He said they will send the coin so maybe it was worth it besides making me feel better.

Nothing happens until you add the minutes to your phone. Whenever you
do add them, they extend your expiration time by the amount on the
card. For example, say it is the beginning of August and you have 60
days left on your phone (i.e., expires the beginning of October). If
you add a 90-day card now, your expiration date becomes the beginning
of January. If you wait until October, then add the minutes, your
expiration date is still the beginning of January. You can extend
your expiration date this way out to (IIRC) somewhere around a year
ahead (check the website for details).

That comes out to 20.x cents per minute. Virgin Mobil starts their per
minute price at 18 cents. You can also get a free phone on line and I think
the service is better, complete online tracking of the account and
monitoring of use. I switched about 6 months ago.

I used to love my Tracfone since my cell phone use is very limited. But they
changed service providers in my area about six months ago and ever since,
it's been one dropped call after another. Then I went out of town for a
week, planning to use up my remaining minutes phoning home before getting
rid of the thing for good. There was supposed to be coverage, but in fact I
couldn't talk for more than 30 seconds before the call dropped--over and
over. Now it's not a bargain at any price.

Tracfone ought to pay some attention to the quality of their local carriers.

My Tracfone uses Cingular (now ATT) GSM locally. I'm pretty happy
with the local coverage and call quality. However, I recently went on
a road trip from the Portland, OR area to the western edge of
Minnesota and back. Tracfone's coverage map notwithstanding, I rarely
got signal with my Tracfone during the trip, even along the interstate
and in bigger towns. For some reason, my (Cingular) Tracfone did not
get any service in one particular town in South Dakota, while a
local's Cingular phone did. Maybe the Cingular service in SD isn't
GSM, I don't know. In any case, I was pretty disappointed in the
coverage outside of my local area.

Tracfone recently replaced my older motorola phone with an updated phone
after informing me that my phone was very soon to be out of date with
the service in my area. The replacement phone was fully free - postage
paid by tracfone. Earlier this year, I was getting no service in many
areas, including Phoenix & the DC area, but had no problems in my New
England area..

I called Target about this. You have up to 6 months after you buy the
card to install the time in your "tank" then the clock ticks on any
time you have in the phone (fone?)
the sale end the 21st.
I only use the phone for emergencies, my wife has a "real" service.
and we have a landline for the 'puter.

I signed up for an airline credit card which requires me to spend a
certain amount in a few

some gift cards, but
wondered if any gift cards offer an incentive for purchasing them. In
other words if I buy

are there any gas stations gift cards?

In the video I saw they showed a tiny thing that looked like a built-in
potty chair. I assume there's no separate bathroom sink. I don't recall
seeing any kind of shower stall, though.

There is a Yahoo group called "cheap shelter" you might be interested in.
Also "Homesteading Today" has a lot of good discussions about small houses.
