All I ever collect are hardwoods. Around here, pallets which may be
lifted from only two sides are generally free for the taking but the
"four-way" ones are not. I don't think I've seen plastic pallets,

Hmm, on that subject, I wonder how teak shingles would work out.
I'm not suggesting they'd last as long as a metal roof, but it
seems like that could last a lot longer than other wood shingles
given how well teak works for outdoors in general.

I've always thought that any shingles are a stupid
approach to a roof even if some last longer than others.

Its only something you see much of in north america for some reason.

You seem to be saying that the problem is that some people own things
(like land) that other people want or even need. You don't seem to
think that actually paying for it is a good idea so what do you propose?

One idea that has often been tried is simply to take it. After all, they
have something you want and they won't give it to you willingly so what
else can you do? Doesn't the world owe you what they have? Don't you
need it (or want it) more than them? Can't you make better use of it?
Why does someone else get to have more than you anyhow? Isn't it just
completely unfair that someone else has something and you do not?
