In some states, it's illegal to mount a GPS on the windshield
http://www.gpsreview.net/windshield-gps-installations-illegal-in-some-states/

What I do, on a BMW, is flip out the antenna on the nuvi horizontal to the
road and stick it in the cockpit air conditioning and heater vents.

The cantilever design of the antenna works perfectly to mount the Garmin
nuvi 6xx series.

The other option is to shove the Garmin as far down on the dash as you can
to wedge it in at the windshield as shown here
http://www.conti.net/bmwcca/garmin.jpg

I've used both methods for about a year now (ever since the socket part of
my Garmin nuvi ball-and-socket joint cracked).

Now THAT's frugal living!

There seem to be no end of cup-holder mounts out there for cells phones,
ipods and GPS A quick google product search found me this link.

The flip side of that is when compulsive spenders deride genuine
frugality as being "cheap."

Yes it is if there is another more frugal way of getting the same result.

The obvious alternative is to add a washer and dryer.

Unfortunately the rules in the building prohibit washers.

It predates both Windows and Mac.

My Mom's film camera stopped working.

Wonder if she could figure out a digital camera at the age of 85.

Does she have a computer to transfer images to? My Mom is 87 and still
kickin' it pretty good with her computer on the iNet and email. She
loves getting pictures of the great grandchildren on the computer.
