Hi

We are considering buying a second side by side refrigerator/freezer
to take advantage of meat/fish/frozen veggies sales.
Also wife needs more fridge room.
I have calculated that it could pay for itself in 1 year(Including
electricity) as we can't take advantage of grocerie store sales right
now as we would want to.
Example chicken cutlets most of the time regular at $4.99 lb but they
do go on sale for $1.99 lb but we can't stock up.
To buy 30 lb of these would roughly be $150 at $4.99 lb and $60 at
$1.99 lb, that is a saving of $90 just on that.
A month ago the wife came home with packages of salmon on sale for
$1.99 lb regular was $8.99 lb, she bought 4 packages but she would
have stocked up if we had the freezer.
Frozen veggies do go on sale too.
We are looking at a Maytag, energy efficient with ice maker, 26 cub
feet.
Does anyone here do that and what has your experience/savings been?

Thanks a lot

Patrick

That makes sense. Particularly since you have a reputation to know

I'm not quite sure what to make of that. On the surface it sounds
like a government agency is doing it's job. But given the overall
climate of mission change these last years I wonder what the real reason is.

True. However Tugzip (which has full support of Zip, 7-zip, etc)
includes unrar support. And you can drop in rar.exe from a rar
installation and get compression support. The shareware WinRAR will
work, and it won't give any nag screens. Of course this is all
strictly hypothetical since using any part of WinRAR past the 30 day
trial is against the agreement.

When I hear that you can't ever get a straight answer about price from
someone, I tend to think that means the price is negotiate. Sure, it
might just be that you can't get an answer because their customer service
is a pain in all areas, but it might also be that they are playing a
pricing game with you. Or to put it another way, they won't tell you
the price because are participating in setting the price.

The good news is, maybe you can look at this as more of an opportunity
than an annoyance. If they are playing pricing games, it means you
can possibly turn the tables, take control of the process, and get them
to lower your price.

I managed to get this to happen with my cable company (Time-Warner).
I had been paying $140 for a package with digital cable TV, internet,
and phone with unlimited long distance. I was planning to go 100%
cell phone, so I called them up and simply said I wanted to drop the
phone part of my service. They decided to try for a "save", and they
offered me the exact same services for $122. I took it.

In your case, I'd be tempted to research the competition for internet
service. DSL is probably about $20/month, so I'd find out how much
it really is, then call the cable company and tell them you want to
shut off your entire service (since you don't care that much about the
analog cable TV part). I bet they will give a straight answer at
that point. ;-)

I tried to look into that, but found the phone companies at least
equally deceptive. I could neither get an actual price, nor how much
bandwidth I would get. They'll happily quote you "a" price, but it
doesn't include a million different taxes and fees, or even the ISP
service you might have to buy over the DSL line itself, and it requires
you have home phone service from them (which I don't - Vonage). Even
finding the regular monthly rate after the teaser expires can be almost
impossible. The phone company's own website wanted my SSN before
quoting a price! Yes, they demanded my SSN.

Several months ago this was about $60.

What I get is that if you are obsessed about survival, it makes
a hell of a lot more sense to ensure you have an adequate supply
of what deals with intestinal parasites MUCH more effectively than
that crap above than it ever does using that crap above instead.

I didnt say it does work, I said it makes no sense to use
kerosene TODAY when the alternatives work so much better
and are readily available, even if you are in Gauntano etc.

I'm pretty sure nobody was promoting it's use... The original question was
aswered as to who, what, when, where, why, etc... Thread is dead as far as
I'm concerned - and it was my original post. <G>

Why would it be relevant?? Because if they didn't know then telling them
would be a better solution than lying as they would not be so inclined
to pass on false information to other customers.

If you are saying that one lie justifies another, then do you have any
problem with Argos's actions in Martin's scenario above??

If Argos are acting in ignorance of their obligations or pretending to
be ignorant, surely invoking ones rights is a better and more honourable
course of action than lying.

Is this a fair practice? Arab-owned and Asian Indian-owned food marker
dealers are purchasing sufficient quantities, of food items from
discount srores as Aldi and Save A Lot, and
stocking them in their own stores with a boost in price? Then they
expect cusromers to buy them along with Name Brand items (which are

Unfortunately, Walmart does the same thing - they buy goods, mark up
the price and then sell them along side name brand goods.

Come to think of it, Home Depot, Sears, Target, Staples and Gap do the
same unfair practice of marking up the price on goods they buy.

What businesses sell items every day at their own cost?

What stops the customers from going to Aldi or Save A Lot?

That is not scalping.

Scalping is when someone corners the market on something and charges
many times the original purchase price.

Mark-up is when someone buys goods and resells them at a higher price
sufficient to make a reasonable profit.

All stores engage in mark-up. It has nothing to do with ethnicity.

Many inexperienced eBay sellers (frequently below their real costs when
they are ignorant of their real costs)..

Now if I could just find a company in this small town that had one (ANY
sort of IR camera), and could come out and do a walkaround for me. It'd
be worth a C-note to me to be able to target my limited repair funds at
the worst leaks.

For the hell of it, call your local fire department
folk. They just might have one.
