Do you really need the Air card service??

Can you get buy with using a Wi-fi hot sot??
That would be the more frugal solution.

Why not just buy a laptop with wi-fi and use that for your occasional
Internet access while on the road? I would be hard pressed to come up
with any new laptop that doesn't have wi-fi capability built in. Finding
a wi-fi hot spot certainly isn't hard these days. Most hotels have them,
and there are tons of free or inexpensive wi-fi access points in the
United States and elsewhere around the world, such as public libraries,
book stores, coffee shops, even McDonalds.

Nonsense. Pallies haul them away to their top restaurants.

Cider-Braised Palestinian Kid

8 small sage leaves
1 Palestinian Kid (can substitute pork, rattlesnake, or vulture)
2 Tbsp. chicken fat
1 medium onion, chopped coarsely
1 carrot, chopped coarsely
1 small turnip, chopped coarsely
2 cups apple cider or apple juice
1 bouquet garni made by tying together
3 sprigs of parsley, 2 sprigs of thyme and 1/2 bay leaf
1/4 cup parsley, chopped

Divide the sage leaves into equal portions and dress the kid.
In a large flameproof casserole, melt the fat over a high flame.
Brown the kid in the melted fat, and then remove and reduce the flame.
Add the onion, carrot and turnip, cover and let simmer for an hour.
Place the kid on vegetables and pour on the cider.
Bring to a boil, add the bouquet garni, cover and transfer to a medium
oven for 2 hours.
Remove the kid from the casserole and set aside to keep warm.
Strain the liquids in the casserole, pressing down on the vegetables
to squeeze out the liquids.
Place the kid on a warmed serving platter, pour over some of the
juices and sprinkle with the parsley.
Serve the remaining juices separately.

Serves lots of Pallies.

the US may still be among the best...however I do business with others
from around
the world... some nations are a lot more sane than the US by a wide
margin.. Norway comes

the ambient level of bogus notions will indeed have negative effects

I see several posters commented on coffee. My wife and I make coffee
with a Bunn brand drip coffee maker. We use 3 scoops to make a pot of
coffee. I recently discovered that my wife uses 1 scoop on top of the
previously used (3 scoops) grounds to make the second pot we sometimes
have. I had never noticed the difference. It seems to taste as fresh
as the first pot.
Now can anyone comment on the whether using a timer to shut off all
the power to my Bunn coffee makeer when it isn't being used for
several hours is an efficient means of electricity conservation? A
timer that is heavy enough to handle the wattage of the coffee maker
is rather expensive. I don't know if I'd get payback in a reasonable
amount of time.

I don't know if there's a reasonable payback period or not. But it must be
longer than the payback period of simply unplugging the coffee maker when
you're not using it.

The Forester is a very nice, safe vehicle, but it is neither an SUV nor a
truck. Nowadays, that type of vehicle's referred to as a crossover.

SUV=Sport Uitlity Vehicle. Originally sold as something which could be
taken off-road. Hence the high center of gravity and stiff suspension which
made it unsafe at highway speeds.

But 'merkans with more money that sense just saw that it was Big, and
appeals to the unthinking lizard-brained mentality.

In many urban areas, a car is not a necessity. I know quite a few people
who do quite fine without owning a car.

I just bought a used car. Live in a rural area and am disabled so need
something for transportation further than the mail box.

The problem was - I have very limited funds. When I talked initially to
the salesman - told him I didn't care what make, model or color it was.
Other than everything needed to make it legal and safe - only needed a
decent heater. A radio would be considered a plus. Other than that,
everything else would be not necessary - and, if included, would not pay
extra for it. I needed something that would get me there and get me back -
and there is seldom more than 20 miles from my home and usually less than 5.

I ended up with a 1981 Mitsubishi Galant with 103,000 miles on it. Took a
friend, who is more knowledgeable about cars, with me to look at what was
offered. And he did ask a lot of questions I wouldn't have thought about.
Also I insisted that the car be taken to my own mechanic to be checked out.
My mechanic sent back a list of things that needed to be corrected. New
front brakes, rear brake drums rotated, new battery, new tires. All of that
was done, car was detailed (would like them to detail my house!) and a
loaner was provided to me while the work was being done. Getting used to
the difference still (had a 1992 Buick Century station wagon before - also
purchased used) but so far (25 days) things seem to be going fine.

If I could just figure out the headlights.

So - when buying a used car - take someone else with you - even if you know
about cars (I don't) they could ask questions that wouldn't come to mind by
yourself. And have a mechanic look at it. Salesmen usually aren't
mechanics - and hidden damage usually can be found by a good mechanic.

Beats me. I have them, but not long enough to see if they meet their
claimed life expectancy. Keep in mind the the biggest savings will be in
electricity and if you shop around, you can find those bulbs pretty
cheap.

That's correct. CFL's are not only a financial ripoff, they are also
highly toxic, due to the mercury released when broken. Imagine how
many hotels, apt. buildings etc. are now diffused w/mercury particles
via heating and air conditioner ducts, carpets, and so on. Don't think
for a moment that all or most CFL breakage is properly cleaned
up...especially by low paid illegal immigrant workers.

???They cost 3 times as much, but last 6-7 years, as opposed to 6-7 months.
They also use less electricity for the same wattage, so there's a utilities
savings. Also, they put out less heat, so cooling costs are reduced. The
tiny amount of mercury in them is not an issue at all even if you break one,
which is not exactly easy to do. What's the problem?

you seem pretty well versed in this topic. How much mercury is inside a
CF (say 13 watt) bulb? Are CF bulbs responsible for contaminating
fish from people throwing them in the water? (the bulbs, not the fish)

WD40 is nasty stuff with most plastics. It seems to get inside the plastic and
it disintegrates suddenly and catastrophically at a later date.
