yeah, these are new towels. just wait a few days and they'll smooth out, their eyes
will open, and they'll be suckling madly like any normal thirsty towelette.

Cotton wrinkles. It's a dish towel, who (besides you, I mean) cares if it's
wrinkled or not? I'll bet they dry the dishes about the same either way.

You keep going less cheap and less cheap as you go along here.

There is an X-10 based system that does just this. You can use any kind
of sensors you want - door, window, infra-red. And it can be programmed
to dial up to 4 numbers of your choice and play your own recorded
message until someone at one of those numbers answers the phone. Press
any key on your phone and the siren stops so you can listen to what is
going on inside the home through a built in microphone on the base unit.
The system runs about $170.00 including a basic set of sensors.

Just do a search on "X-10 alarm system" and you should find them.

Whatever you do, DO NOT program any system to dial 911. They get really
p*ssed off about automated systems calling in false alarms. Some Cities
charge you for annoyance calls from these systems.

I used to have a Radio Shack pendant dialer that would dial whatever
succession of phone numbers you wanted, play a message, and open
up a live microphone link inside the house to the phone line.

IIRC, it cost about $70 ten years ago. Being intended for the elderly,
it was activated by a pendant worn around the neck. It could easily
be adapted to do what you're thinking of doing. Mine worked fine.

The good part about this solution is that there are no additional
monthly charges, assuming you already have a phone.

google this: radio shack pendant alarm dialer

I think those systems that are designed for the elderly should also have
some mechanism to detect movement and alarm if there is no movement
for a specified time between particular nominated times, so that if the
individual does die or is unconscious, the system will alarm then too.

Obviously the time between detected movements is different at
night and day and in the bedroom and the rest of the house etc.

Go to a bookstore, pick up one of the "Chicken Dance" birthday cards.
Tie the little tab to the window, glue the card on the frame.

Burglar opens window. Da da dadda da da dat da da dadda da da dat and
so forth. Burglar either runs away screaming or starts to dance.

The ELK-M1G home automation system can do all that.

The last place my Dad lived (independent/assisted living) had a switch
he had to hit each day. It was a pull chain thing on the wall in the
bedroom.

If "on the cheap" is the whole theme of this thread, I can imagine a
simple timer circuit (a one shot with a duration of say 30-36 hours).
It's "reset" by the person each day (like my dad and the pull chain),
but if the timer goes off, the alarm is triggered. There probably needs
to be a simple disable, in the event that the person will be gone for a
couple days.

easier to return if the item is defective (assuming that's one of the conditions of

And if you want to get really cheap; Chevy Aveo (a Hyundai in

what brand and model would YOU buy in a 5-7 cubic foot

I basically choose from what is available at the time I buy one,
and since they last so long, that varys with the purchase.

What I buy isnt necessarily the same as you either, mine
have to go under an existing cantilevered 20' long bench
which constrains the height of the freezer and I only ever
use verticals, I hate freezers with just a lid.

I also avoid the ones which have the shelves formed
from sheet metal because I have had one of those fail.
Not sure if you can even buy those now tho, its been
quite a while since I bought the last one.

Things never seem to change without the trigger of death. I'm
wondering which of my neighbours will be killed on the bridge up our
street walking into town. It's a narrow one that is shared with
traffic. Nothing has been done to make it safe because whoever is
asked claims it's another department's responsibility.
I suppose it's not frugal to provide safety before death.

We've had a prime minister born in our town but nobody's born here
anymore since they shut down the maternity ward. Now the mothers to be
face a 90 minute drive for that.
A lot of health problems are do to the economy doing gangbusters, they
can't find staff. However i'm dubious about the future, the economic
management of our state government is pretty damn ordinary considering
the tax windfall that the GST has generated for all states.
The PM is right to criticise them.

Not for that sort of shooting of the dangerous wildlife, anyway.

Yeah, I was amazed at how many walk on the road when getting

Yeah, tho even 30 years ago, some chose not to have the brat
here, just because if the shit hits the fan, the facilitys arent as good.

Yeah, we've always had almost all of ours overseas trained.
30+ years ago they were all poms, now mostly asians. And
thats not just the hospital either, the GPs and specialists as well.

Yeah, bet the medical facilitys are pretty primitive.

Yeah, in many ways its got much worse.

My heart specialist is a south african. He used to live here but now
flys in from Sydney every week and spends most of the week here.
He's a jew and there is no synagog here and he wants to send his
kids to private schools, so has chosen to do it like that. Gunna be
interesting to see how long he keeps that up for.

Au contraire mon ami.....

It's not the "vitamins" so much as the minerals and trace elements.
Every day it seems, science finds a positive use for some trace element.
Did you get your daily dose of selenium, chromium, etc. today. ?

It's possible to get "everything"
if you have a nutritionist preparing every meal.
But most Americans don't eat mushrooms, or liver, or arugula every day.

At little more than a penny apiece, I figure a multi-vitamin/mineral pill
is damn cheap nutritional health insurance.

Pity that there are plenty of those in normal diets too.

Pity that you aint established that most diets are deficient in those.

You dont need to do that to get more than you need of everything that matters.

They dont need to, or even every week either.

Why would anyone have a problem with this?

Don't have to work nearly as hard to pay a mortgage, or pay all the extra t
axes that come with making the extra money. If I don't have to make as
much, I don't have to pay as much. Is this the problem? I can even take
my home from place to place.

Like the river or the lake and stay for the weekend or even a local resort
where I have a membership and stay for 2 weeks out of each month for
a few dollars a day. Plus yearly membership fees ofcoarse.

I'm not even retired is the best part of all. I should have done this years
ago.

There are no nutritional deficiency problems in industrial countries
including the US. The stuff you buy in an average grocery store is
more than enough to provide a balanced diet. Vitamins are an optional
food supplement not a medication. Do anything you want with it. Just
don't overdose.

Yes there are.
Vitamin D is the prime example.
The optimal source is sun exposure, but dark complexion people
have to stay out longer. These and elderly may get insufficient sun,
especially in winter and high latitudes. The traditional method of
fortification is milk which intolerable for most non-European adults.
Vitamin D deficiency is strongly correlated with bone strength.
Correlation is obervsed with nerve diseases like MS and certain
cancers,
but causal link unknown.

Some medicines are not well-mixed within a pill.
This is of concern for where undosing (pain killer)
or overdosing (cutting for children) could be a
problem with just one dose. Something less crucial
like vitamins it doesnt matter as much if you dose
is doubel of half what you expect day to to day.

A few years ago I was given a Starbucks gift card. I got tired of
waiting 10 minutes for a simple coffee even though it was free .
I went back to my regular on the way to work place where the coffee was
better and service was faster.

That's why Starbucks is so expensive. You have to pay extra for
the longer names.

Yeah, my main hilarity is playing gin rummy for 3 months. No thanks.

Biting insects are a problem too.

Yeah, tho the coast isnt too bad in spots.

Yeah, the effect has been quite dramatic.

Yeah, tho they are only tiny, like Kiandra.

For many years before cell phones I used a system that would call
my pager and transmit a code telling me what was happening. It
works very well.

Yes, particularly on how the shelves are done etc.

Nope.

There is on the shelf detail. Some have racks inside
the door and some dont, and some have slide out
bins and some just have fixed shelves.

Angry Homeowners Take to the Web

By Maya Roney
Tue Aug 7, 8:08 AM ET

The outside of Susan Sabin's house in Lenexa, Kan., is covered with
lemons: lemon-shaped foam cutouts, twinkling lemon Christmas lights,
and a lemon-adorned wreath on the front door. If you go to her Web
site, you can see for yourself. You'll also see photographs of
splintered beams, bowed floors, and a graphic that declares: "Pulte
Homes sold me a lemon!"

Sabin has been called crazy, but she's not the only dissatisfied
customer. The Internet has rapidly become an outlet for frustrated
homeowners to chronicle their bad experiences with new homes they have
found to be structurally defective. Homeowners can now post
complaints, discuss legal options, and warn future buyers on at least
a dozen builder-directed "gripe sites," with names such as www.crapconstruction.com
and www.khovsucks.com.

Careless Building During Boom?

As home values decrease and home sales slow in many parts of the
country, construction problems seem to have become an even bigger
concern for homeowners. "I notice the traffic has definitely picked
up," says Andy Martin, a longtime consumer advocate who runs three
sites: www.FightPulte.com, www.FightDiVosta.com and www.FightDelWebb.com.
The three sites serve as national clearinghouses for those who think
they may be victims of shoddy construction. During the housing boom,
builders were working fast to keep up with all the people gobbling up
new properties, and Martin believes the quality of building suffered
as a result. "The pendulum swung too far in (the builders') favor," he
says. "The Internet now is rising to level the playing field."

For many of the creators and visitors to these Web sites, the problem
is water intrusion and mold, brought about, they claim, by faulty
construction. Dan Wenk, creator of www.levittandsonshome.org, claims
he was not able to return to his Levitt & Sons home in central Florida
after receiving chemotherapy because his immune system could not
tolerate the elevated mold levels. "I was struggling with my life-
threatening illness and now needed to find a new place to live," he
writes.

Levitt & Sons, a subsidiary of Levitt (NYSE:LEV - News), has not tried
to stop homeowners like Wenk from using the Internet as a sounding
board. "Today consumers increasingly turn to the Internet and other
new forums to share their opinions and openly discuss products," said
Levitt & Sons President Seth Wise in regard to Wenk's site. "While at
times it may be difficult, Levitt Corporation welcomes this evolution
as it creates an open dialogue and enables our employees and
subcontractors to be accessible and accountable to all of our
homeowners."

In Lieu of Litigation

In Sabin's case, the culprit is a type of soil called fat clay that
swells excessively and has been pushing apart the frame, doors, and
ceilings of the brand new home she bought last summer. The builder,
Bloomfield (Mich.)-based Pulte Homes (NYSE:PHM - News), should have
tested the soil before constructing her house, Sabin says. Pulte has
come in to make repairs, but Sabin claims they have proved futile as
the soil continues to exert pressure on her foundation. The value of
the home has fallen nearly $120,000 in the past six months, Sabin
writes on her site. She now wants Pulte to buy back her home, but they
refuse. "I try not to be emotional, but I live in this house every
single day," Sabin says. "I have a right to be emotional about this."

But Sabin doesn't have a right to sue the builder. Not yet, anyway.
Many new-home sales contracts, including Pulte's, state that disputes
related to the purchase of the home must be settled by arbitration
before moving to court. For now, Sabin says she's content to use her
Web site to spread the word and prevent others from going through a
similar ordeal.

Pulte says it provides each new homeowner with a 50-page "Pulte
Protection Plan" detailing a limited warranty in which the builder
agrees to repairs for one year after the purchase on the house is
closed. "We have identified the problem with her home, we've developed
a plan to fix it, and we've made the offer to her to fix it, but Ms.
Sabin refuses to let us make the necessary repairs to her home," says
Mark Marymee, a spokesperson for Pulte. "If Susan Sabin had spent half
the energy working with us as she's put into her Web site, this
problem could have been resolved by now."

Builders Threaten Libel Suits

Builders do seem to be concerned about the effect of gripe sites on
their reputation. Miami-based builder Lennar (NYSE:LEN - News) has
filed more than one lawsuit against Mike Morgan, a Florida real estate
broker who runs www.defective-homes.net. In a complaint filed July 30
in Charleston County, S.C., Lennar alleges that Morgan "engaged in a
concerted scheme to defame Lennar publicly with the goal of extracting
from Lennar financial payments." On July 20, a federal magistrate
judge in Florida recommended a preliminary injunction preventing
Morgan from using the word "Lennar" in Web site domain names.

"They want me dead, there's no way around that," says Morgan, who
claims he is now bankrupt and unable to afford legal fees. "If I lose
these things, it sets precedents for every other group that has a
gripe site." If you search "Lennar" on Google (NasdaqGS:GOOG - News),
Morgan's site, which he says gets 15,000 visitors a month, comes up
near the top of the page.

Builders may be able to win a lawsuit against a poster or Web site
creator who cannot back up a statement they post online about
defective construction. "The angry homeowner who posts messages on
these sites is not protected from libel actions," says Susan Grogan
Faller, who practices First Amendment law with a focus on media and
Internet for Frost Brown Todd in Cincinnati. "False and inflammatory
statements are not protected."

Faller says she is unaware of any lawsuit in which a judgment was
taken against a poster on a real estate gripe site. But because it's
such a new area, posters and Web masters may not realize that they are
at risk. "I think people are used to the concept that someone can sue
the newspaper, or magazine, or television station for libel, but
they're not used to the concept that they themselves can be sued (for
posting on the Internet)."

Paying Complainers to Go Away

Because of the binding arbitration clause in many new-home contracts,
unsatisfied homeowners rarely make a court hearing -- or the
headlines. "I think that the problem with construction defects has
been under the radar for so long," says Nancy Seats, president of
Homeowners Against Deficient Dwellings (HADD), a nonprofit consumer
protection group for homeowners dealing with defective construction.
"People just don't understand how many people are just being
financially destroyed by bad construction and binding arbitration. But
now more and more people are going to the Internet to expose their
problems and get back at the builder."

What happens instead of a trial, Seats says, is that big builders pay
people to shut down their builder-bashing Web sites. It's true that
many links to former sites are now defunct, including the once-popular
KBHomesSucks.com. "This was the most outstanding Web site, and KB
Homes tried to sue them," Seats says. "The vast majority of (now-
defunct sites) were people that were paid to shut up and go away."
Repeated calls from BusinessWeek to KB Homes (NYSE:KBH - News) have,
as yet, gone unanswered.

Now homebuilders are hurting, leading some angry homeowners to worry
that construction defects may become even more common as builders try
to cut costs. Sales of new homes fell 6.6% in June, to an annualized
rate of 834,000, and builders have been reporting lousy earnings
numbers (see BusinessWeek.com, 7/7/07, "Homebuilders in a Hole"). "The
builders are in very precarious shape," says Martin. "It's a very
dangerous period right now in the housing industry."

For future angry homeowners, there will no doubt be plenty of new
places to complain.

angriest real estate gripe sites.

Not as hot nor are there any real numbers of flies. Southern Australia
is plagued by flies whenever it warms up.
I've stayed at that park myself and it certainly is a home away from
home for hordes of people, and they treat it that way, it's spotless.

The lack of population centres away from Perth is a real downer when
considering moving. Most if not all mines anywhere are fly-in fly-out
now so they don't do much for the region.
If some areas could just get to a certain population level then a lot
of other livability factors would fall into place but the doubling of
our population over the last 50 years has all gone to the major
centres, putting extra stress on them and sucking the life out of
remote areas.
There are no places in Australia too cold by European or USA standards
but some places do get a few snowfalls.

Do you need extra income, Quickly and Legally?
For The Price of 2 Happy Meals You Help Your Fellow Man
Basically This is People Helping People
"We can have anything we want in life if we're willing to help enough
other people get what they want."
- Zig Ziglar
Do you have a PayPal Account? (IF not, the set up takes under 5
minutes AND IT'S TOTALLY FREE!!!)

You could make up to $ 50,000 in one month's time with more money
coming in every month thereafter!

$50,000 in PayPal?

That's Right! $50,000 Dollars in your PayPal ACCOUNT, IT WAS PROVED ON
OPRAH and this system is COMPLETELY LEGAL!!!

You may have heard of this program (or one like it) on 20/20 or even
in the Wall Street Journal. $10 that's all it takes. I'll try to keep
it short and sweet.

To get started just copy this whole page and paste it to edit it.
Simply follow the instructions below and in 2 to 4 weeks, you could
have as much as $50,000 in your PayPal account or even more.

Most people respond to this program because of the low investment ($10
Dollars) and the high profit potential. There is no limit to the
income you can generate from this (you can do it over and over). If
you follow the instructions, you will reach thousands of people!
Honesty, Faith, and integrity make this system work.

I think everyone has heard of PayPal. Anyone with an e-mail address
can join for FREE! If you're not already a PayPal user, the first
thing you need to do is sign up.

Sign up for PayPal here:

https://www.paypal.com/us/mrb/pal=ATB4Q7VKC5UMQ

It's simple to set up and it's FREE!!! Just make sure you have a
Business or Premier account or you may be subjected to a monthly
income limitation which may slow this program down.

Send $5 to the first person on the list by using the PayPal send money
feature, and include in the e-mail: "Payment for Internet Marketing
Made Simple". This keeps the program legal. Then send another $5 to
the 5th person on the list, with an e-mail that says: "Payment for
Work at Home Opportunity".

Remove the 1st e-mail address and place your address at the bottom.

This moves the 2nd to 1st, 3rd to 2nd, 4th to 3rd and the 5th into
4th.

DO NOT TRY TO PLACE YOURSELF IN THE FIRST PLACE. IT WILL ONLY REACH
THE PEOPLE YOU SEND IT TO, AND THEN YOUR NAME WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE
LIST!

If you do this the way it was designed, it will reach thousands by the
time your name gets to the top. REMEMBER TO SEND a $5.00 Dollar
donation to the 1st e-mail address and the message "PAYMENT FOR
INTERNET MARKETING MADE SIMPLE", and send a SIMILAR e-mail with the
words "PAYMENT FOR WORK AT HOME OPPORTUNITY" and the other $5.00
Dollars to the 5th person.

This will help the 5th person to keep track of progress of the letter
and continue to send out more e-mails. Here is the list:

1. rbrown@nc.rr.com

2. mlm_marketing@yahoo.com

3. lay-yan@hotmail.com

4. forex-kid@hotmail.com

5. TheMick812@aol.com

(Make sure it's the same e-mail address that you used to open your
PayPal account. This is the way you will receive your payment)

Now that you have paid the 1st and the 5th person and sent them both
an e-mail (via PayPal account) and placed your e-mail address in the
5th place, then what you need to do is post your letter. You can post
on craigslist.com, backpage.com, message boards and newsgroups (there
are thousands) and you can even send an e-mail to your e-mail list. IT
IS YOUR JOB AS THE 5TH PERSON ON THE LIST TO ENSURE THERE ARE AT LEAST
20 "PAYMENT FOR WORK AT HOME OPPORTUNITY" replies.
The fifth person is the guardian of the system! If there are not at
least 20 replies then the 5th person will keep sending/posting the
letter until there are.

MAKE SURE YOU SEND $5 DOLLARS TO THE FIRST PERSON TO THANK THEM FOR
WHEN THEY WERE THE GUARDIAN OF THE LETTER AND $5 DOLLARS TO THE 5th
PERSON SO MORE EMAILS CONTINUE TO GO OUT!!!

Now the fun happens. We reap what we sow. Other people will see your
posting and do the exact same thing, bringing you lots and lots of
dollars!! Seriously, it's common sense - you do it and 25 or more
people see and do the exact same thing and everyone wins!!!

You will receive thanks AND THE SAME BLESSING. When your name is on
the 1st slot, 8,000 to 15,000 people will send you $5.00 dollars! Keep
in mind the most you spend is $10 DOLLARS!
(WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND!)

TESTIMONIALS:

Mary Gathers, Columbus, SC:

I only have one thing to say to you: OH MY GOD! I sent out 142 copies
total before 20 replied, like the instructions said. Then I went on a
short vacation. When I got back, my account had over $ 32,000 dollars
in it already and the money was still coming! I'm still floating in
air (especially with my new car). I thought the guardian system
sounded cheesy, but now I realize it is the formula that makes this
letter really work! THANKS!

Richard Barrie, Boulder, CO:

I was shocked when I saw how much money came flooding into my PayPal
account. Within 3 weeks my account balance has ballooned to $22,449.
At first I thought there had been some sort of error with my account!

HERE ARE THE STEP-BY-STEP DIRECTIONS AGAIN:

Step 1. Set up your PayPal account, if you don't already have one, and
send the top name (1st person) $5.00 Dollars. DON'T FORGET to include
"Payment for Internet Marketing Made Simple". This is important as it
keeps the program legal.

Step 2. Send the other $5.00 Dollars and a note stating "Payment for
Working at Home Opportunity" to the 5th name on the list.

Step 3. Remove the top name, bump the other 4 names up one place each.
Place your name in the bottom slot and you will receive a minimum of
$100.00 for your efforts.

Step 4. Keep sending/posting the letter until you receive 20 "Payment
for Work at Home Opportunity" replies in your mailbox.

That's it, It's that simple!

Please give it an honest effort, you will not be disappointed and will
be very glad you did when it starts to work. Remember, all you are
going to be out of pocket is a about the cost of a couple of coffees
with the opportunity of banking thousands of dollars into your PayPal
account! Take the smallest risk of your life!!!!

The Guardian system is based on Honest people helping each other out.
This Program is completely legal if you follow step by step
directions.

It has the same concept of building a downline except more profitable
and affordable. Wish you the best of luck and may you prosper in
fortune.

:: Make big money honestly, and ethically!

"We can have anything we want in life if we're willing to help enough
other people get what they want."

TOPIC: Idea for Cheap Alarm System

I'd like to have a simple alarm. It could be as basic as a motion
detector that sets off a loud siren. I think that would scare off the
majority of intruders. We come in through the garage, so I would
just throw the circuit breaker to turn it off. If anyone knows a
product like this, I'd love to hear about it.

Then I started thinking about something a little more elaborate. What
if you had a cell phone attached to the motion detector that could be
set to dial a number if it were set off? For example, it could dial
911 and play a recorded message saying the house address and there was
a burglary in process. Or it could dial my cell phone, and then I
could decide if I wanted to dial 911. A Virgin Mobile cell phone
works out under $6 a month, much cheaper than a monitoring contract.

Consumer Reports had an extensive article exactly on this subject a
month or two ago. You might want to check out the review online or at
your public library.

Yup, and this sort of thing is very easy to research online for those
who are interested. The web site at http://www.autoscoop.com lets you
put in a dollar amount or monthly payment and it will tell you the cars
you can afford based on that criteria.

The 2 least expensive vehicles sold in the US, by list price are:

2008 Chevrolet Aveo 9,995
2007 Hyundai Accent 10,415

If you want the cheapest car, that'll take some research. Cheap and
inexpensive aren't the same thing.

I'm not sure that reading a web site or contacting any religious
organization would do the OP much good at this point--he seems extremely
hopeless, consumed by loneliness, and intent on ending the pain he's in. A
visit with a pastor *might* help (or more importantly, yield some leads for
help), but I'd direct him to one of the less conservative denominations like
the Unitarians, Episcopalians, or the ELCA Lutherans, as opposed to a
Nazarene church. Someplace he'll hear more about love, less about judgment.

Sorry you won't like this, Mr. Sallee, but that's just how I see it, based
on my experience.

Clams, I have to admit, I'm curious why you're so interested in talking to
the spammers. Lonely, maybe? Too much time on your hands? What?

Jesse, who has worked at Starbucks for almost a year, has written a
mythbusting "Buyer's Guide" that will help you in your quest to save money
when ordering your favorite Starbucks beverage. Our favorite tips?
Frappucinos are a rip off, there's no free ride at the drive-thru, and
ordering a latte with chai syrup is cheaper than a chai with espresso.

Consumerist drinks its coffee black, but Jesse obviously loves the
complicated world of Starbucks, and if you do too, this is the post for you.

Why pay full price for a Starbucks concoction when a little ordering jujitsu
can produce the same drink for less? Reader Kelly devised a way to order her
Starbucks Tazo Chai latte for half the price:

the only time i purchase coffee from starbucks is when i am in an airport
and it's my only choice. i am always stuck behind some doof ordering a
drink which takes a dozen words to order. "triple shot half-decaf extra
hot venti latte no whip double baggged half cocked sprinkle dinkle doo".
GAH!!! what the hell happened to "large coffee"? damn yuppies.
