I cost $30/day and DH costs $35/day, because he still commutes.

Impossible to answer. There's are many levels of living costs between
my present living standard and taking my place under the overpass.
A better question might be - what did you spend per person per day
last year? And where could you cut?

I guess if I gave up all forms of insurance, car, sat in the dark,
rented something squalid and lived on beans, I could get by pretty
cheaply.

The toilet paper costs would kill you, what with all those beans and
not being able to see in the dark.

Living on beans would certainly set you apart from your friends.

Despite having just completed my daily browsing of various news-oriented web
sites, I'm unsure about which of "today's events" triggered your question.
Are you referring to the 300-point rise in the Dow and if so how does that
lead to the "minimum cost of living" question? You're surely not implying
that you think the global economy is on the verge of collapse, I hope.

Make 15k in 30 Days!!!! As seen on Oprah
and 20/20!!!
That's Right 15,000 dollars in your PayPal account - That's all it
takes...
FIRST, PRINT THIS OUT TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS EASIER!
. PAYPAL MAGIC!!!
. TURN $6.00 INTO $15,000 IN ONLY 30 DAYS...HERES HOW!
This is Not a Scam!!!

How to Turn $6.00 into $15,000 in 30 Days with PayPal.
AS SEEN ON OPRAH!!

PAYPAL VERIFIES THAT THIS $6 INVESTMENT
IS 100% LEGAL AND IS A BIG HIT THIS YEAR
SEE THEIR NOTE BELOW OR ASK THEM DIRECTLY...
THIS MIGHT TAKE 15-30 MINUTES AND JUST $6,
BUT IT IS 100% WORTH IT TO MAKE THOUSANDS SO
QUICKLY.

From PayPal:
"Dear Member, it has come to our attention that there
is a PayPal scheme floating around at the moment you
may have heard or seen the $6 scheme. You may have
even taken part in it well we have been asked a lot of
questions about this scheme the answer is yes it does
work and yes it is safe to use providing you follow the
rules it is legal and has made a big hit on the internet
this year. If you would like to take part in this scheme
or would like a bit more information then please see the
attached file that was kindly donated to us. Thank you for
using PayPal!" This Really Works Keep in mind that everything stated
below is 100% legal as stated by the U.S. Post Office
(1-800-725-2161).
Now honestly, what is six Dollars, especially out of a Paypal account.
In exchange you will make thousands in the first few months. You then
place your
own name and email address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post
the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands of
newsgroups)
I sent out my measly $6.00 to the six people on the list. Within 7
days, I started: getting $$$$$ in my account!

I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the CASH just kept
coming in. In my first week, I made about $25.00.By the end of the
second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I
had over $15,060.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week
and I have made a total of just over $26,000.00 and it's still coming
in rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00 and 6 minutes to send it out.
This program WORKS. Put in message boards or send as emails.

What is Gucci?

Gucci is an Italian fashion and leather goods label, and it was
founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence in 1921. A turnaround of the
company which occurred in the late 1980s made Gucci one of the world'
s most influential fashion houses, and in the early 1990s, Gucci
underwent what is now recognized as the poorest time in the company' s
history. This company is most well known for its watches, clothing
lines, and handbags.

I'm not certain if this is the correct place to ask this, but I
noticed past threads on this topic in misc.consumers*.

I am trying to help a friend think about debt consolidation. I'm
running into a problem, though, and that is that searching for debt
consolidation companies online turns up a lot of rather fishy looking
enterprises. I'm suspecting that a lot of these companies are
predatory and of questionable legality (or worse).

Does anyone know of a website where I could find reliable information
about debt consolidation companies? The Better Business Bureau's site
was of no help whatsoever. I know she can get debt consolidation
services through reputable major banks (e.g., BofA, Wells Fargo), but
I also guess that there deals may not be as competitive as companies
that specialize in DC.

Thanks,
Kevin

Start with your friend's current bank or credit union. Expand to other local
banks and credit unions.

Another place to start is your local Consumer Credit Counseling Service
(http://www.cccservices.com/).

"Debt consolidation" is not magic, though it is only part of the picture. That
part of it is simply finding a loan at the lowest possible interest rate and
best repayment terms, so you can pay off your higher-interest debt with the
proceeds. Your friend may need help getting into a position to qualify for such
a loan or to find a willing lender; that is where CCCS or similar may help.

I would never put my personal or business calendars online but in this
instance it is limited to functions relating to the group I belong to.
Since we already have each others contact details the calendar will
simply say (names of people) are meeting to discuss (topic) at (time and
place). It would be interesting to see an outsider try to identify us at
the lunch, dinner or whatever and then try to explain their uninvited
presence.
Oh, the calendar will also have such valuable private information as
the list of members speaking at upcoming meetings.
As I said, fine in this case but not in other instances.
Speaking of google a poster in another group has been trying to
hijack that group by flooding it with messages from his sock puppets.
Most of us are ignoring him so he started a google group on the same
topic as the group. He is bragging about how he "owns" the google group
and is bragging that we need his permission to join this group.

I've got a Canon fax/printer/scanner/thing...

I almost never print in color (once a year maybe?).

It keeps using color ink even when I print B&W...

So... Today, it told me I needed cyan ink. I removed the old cartridge and
didn't install a new one. Closed the trap doors and set it free. It thinks
there is plenty of ink, prints in B&W just fine and hasn't given me a
problem yet.

If it's a bad idea, someone will probably come along shortly to tell me
so... But it seems like I can just run it without color cartridges if I
only do B&W... Someone already told me that if the inlet for the ink dries
up, the printer has no mechanism to clean it up... So I may lose color
capabilities forever... Which is fine for me.

Thoughts?

The light did not go out because you left the cart out. It went out
because the open vent you created allowed all remaining ink to drain
down. Very soon it will actually be totally empty and the light/
message should come back. All you will have accomplished is drying out
the print head. Carts are easily refilled with cheap aftermarket ink.
I've been lucky enough to find ink at the dollar store. I stocked up
while it was there and now it's gone. Still, online sources of cheap
ink are available. As a hack, you might consider filling the unused
carts with a mixture of water and alcohol 50/50 to fool the printer.
If it's one of the printers that mixes color to create black, you
won't get black with water or empty as you are now. I love to
experiment, but I always keep several backup printers and quarts of
ink to use in them. You can find many of the answers to these simple
questions on the printer peripheral site. Sometimes it's better to
learn by the mistakes of others.

You may be right... However, I got the idea from an old Cannon printer
(probably 8 years old) that has been running cartridge-less for about a
year... I didn't think to try it on teh new machine.

So what you are saying is that once the resivoir drys up, it'll probably
clog and then I'll have otehr problems?

This is where I get my ink dirt cheap:

So You Want to be a Work at Home Mom?

But Where do you Start?

Right Here!!!!

#1 Plan

Before you sign up for anything, buy anything, do anything, you must
plan. Ask yourself the important questions, like what do you want out
of this and what are you passionate about.

#2 Prioritize

Many of us jump into things that we really can't handle. Don't get me
wrong, we are all Super Mom!!! However, we need to know what is the
most important to us, and how to fit all of the pieces together.

#3 Budget

Similar to time prioritizing, except with money. It is easy to spend
all of your money at the beginning not thinking of this venture as
long term. Or make the mistake of spending money you simply just don't
have. Let's not forget why you are doing this. It is to make money, to
contribute to your family, not to break to bank trying.

#4 Research

Before investing in something, whether it is time, money, or both, you
must know what you are investing in. Flashy websites, big promises,
and dollar signs can distract you away from the real issue at hand.
You want an opportunity that fits your needs, not one that simply
looks good.

In addition, in order to create an accurate budget you will need to
know how much start up, promotion, and maintenance will cost. When
researching an opportunity those are the three things you will want to
find out.

There are basically two routes to go. You can either join a pre-
existing opportunity, or if you have a completely new idea, start a
new eBiz.

#5 Discuss

A confidant is a wonderful person to bounce off ideas. Share your
priorities and plans with your friend/spouse. Allow them to be
objective about whether the opportunity you have chosen fits with what
you want. I recommend have two or three choices in mind.

#6 Sleep

Any good salesperson will tell you, that the biggest part of a sale is
made based on the emotion evoked by the product and the environment
surrounding it, not truly how good the product is. If the opportunity
is as good today as it was yesterday, than you have probably

I have this very warm 100% thick wool shirt that I need to clean. I
know you can't wash wool in the washer but is there a simple cheap way
to clean this without having to pay a dry cleaner?

Wash it by hand. The recommendations I've seen are to use dish
detergent, not soap. Google around for various suggestions.

I have no earthly idea who you're talking about. The closest name
I recognize to Kudlow is Lisa Kudrow, from "Friends", but obviously
that's not the same thing.

Also, I don't think GW is worthy of praise for how he's handled
the economy. As I said before, and despite your apparent attempts
to ignore reality, I don't like GW. I just think that the
difference in price between the stock market today and the price
when GW was elected is not a meaningful number (due to the
extenuating circumstance of the dot-com bubble).

It is not part of my agenda to defend George Bush. I just really
hate poor analysis of the facts. Especially when it amounts to
"our side is great, look how much the other side sucks in every
possible way" cheerleading rhetoric. For the record, in case you
mistake what I'm saying, I hate that when it comes from any side.

You are right. For $35.00 USD you can probably buy a device, from
china, to check 'em. Then, for the rest of your life, you can check any

"Stormin Mormon" <cayoung61**spamblock##@hotmail.com> wrote:

Read the articles of impeachment. Clinton was impeached for perjury
regarding his testimony about sexual matters-- other peoples' sexual
proclivities being the subject of obscenely morbid interest for most
thin-lipped, self-appointed, bluenosed "religious" morals police and
other busybodies-- not for anything to do with campaigns, contributions,
or treason, as you hilariously suggest. Indeed, given the intense
scrutiny under which the Clinton regime operated, had there been even a
hint of sufficient evidence to bring such charges against your man,
neo-cons and religious righters would have trampled their own mothers in
their haste to do so.

Notice that I didn't argue with anything in your other article
responding to me, because I am absolutely impartial about which party
cheats, lies and steals the most. That's why defenders of any politician
inescapably strike me as mere shills, and political critics possess the
voice of reality. But through the last eight years, the sick,
puss-spewing sores on the body politic has certainly been all about the
Republicans, and sadly, the deluded faux faithful have done everything
they can to expedite the loss of verity and sincerity. At best, U.S.
"religious" leaders have minimalized if not criminalized themselves and
ruined any credibility their "churches" might once have had. I now await
the inevitable whine about shrinking flocks and how the government
justly treats churches like the businesses they have become. We've
already heard these whines from the churches who associate wealth with
godliness. About time. People who preach Christ *or* Mohammed or any
other religion spouting some stupidly cow-like inflexible fundamentalist
fanatical base all look increasingly like a foul bunch of psychos, scam
artists, boobs and hicks, Mormons included. That they would think
*anyone* outside of their circle shares their "values"-- however
"traditional"-- is symptomatic of their delusion.

But that's the nature of rightist religion, isn't it? It has no choice
but to devalue *everything* that doesn't fit its scheme, including
purple dinosaurs and blue Smurfs, for God's sake. Then it cries
piteously when its own shortcomings become all too conspicuous. Well,
unfortunately, Christians were all too successful in helping their
choice of President devalue what America had come to stand for: such
things as individual freedom, equality, justice, and the rule of law.
They helped Republicans devalue the very foundation their own
oh-so-precious freedom was built upon-- the Constitution. Too busy
destroying it to notice what was taking its place. Too preoccupied to
wonder how their success could damage or even destroy them. Get set, I
think that kind of change is coming quick. If that happens, most
churches deserve the same kind of sympathy and consideration they handed
out to others over the past eight years. Personally, I hope they get it.

Living in a metro city in USA. I haven't done any detailed
calculations. Based on my family's annual expenses, I think we spend
about $50 a day per person in the family. That is definitely not how
little we can live on.

Since I know exactly how much spent last year, the
answer is $73. Largest part was housing and utilities at $29.
Car insure, gas, maintain $7. Charity and gifts $7.

Best guess is we could likely cut back to $100/day (for two), but it
would take a significant, undesirable change in lifestyle.

For my household of 5, excluding retirement savings about 100. When I
was laid off, about 60 - without selling the house etc.

absolutely No accidents at this left turn in Grand Rapids, Mi.

location: downtown Grand Rapids; northbound Monroe St @ Fulton.

after cross traffic gets the red light and the intersection is
clear, the thru lane signals to the right get the red light; on the
left turn signal the solid left turn green arrow comes on for 7
seconds; then the left turn solid yellow comes on for 4 seconds. Then
a solid red blinking light comes on. At the time that red blinking
light comes on, the thru lanes to the right get the solid green light.
(The solid red blinking light is well understood to mean that
oncomming traffic has the thru right-of-way)

There have been NO traffic accidents due to left turn confusion since
this signal sequence was first installed.

Compare the above to 43 SERIOUS INJURY accidents at this Florida left
turn:

location: US 301 and 41 (southbound) combines for a left turn 200
yards west of the Walmart in Palmetto, Florida (near Tampa)

why all the accidents?

After the yellow left turn arrow there is NO red light ! A green
light comes on after the yellow arrow! Many motorists who are new to
this intersection (many out of state) assume that the green light
means you have the right-of-way to turn left.

Motorists from out of state are CONDITIONED to expect a red light
after a yellow light or yellow arrow.

This is a perfect example of the lack of uniformity in left turn
traffic signaling around the country. There is no excuse for this.

The people responsible for installing and maintaining this
incomplete,
injury and death-dealing signal in Florida are:

Ken Bass
ph (863) 519-2495 (Bartow, Fl)

My suggestion: Call him and:
Politely YELL BLOODY MURDER!

Some cell phones use more battery power if they are left on and loose
connection (or are have a poor connection) to an affiliated cell tower. They
switch into a hyper search mode trying to re-establish a connection to the/a
network (or a stronger connection).

It is possible your phone in its storage place is entering this mode and
rapidly depleting the batteries charge (my wife's cell would do this at work
until she switched carriers to one that had better coverage).

Turning it off should work.

(after thought)

Check to make sure your phone (if Bluetooth compatible) has the Bluetooth
turned off. A phone with the Bluetooth turned on will kill a battery much
faster as it is constantly searching for a Bluetooth connection.

You could be on to something.

Where the car was parked is in an area not near a tower. I can't even
get service in the house.

I plan to get a car charger to be safe, and just keep it in my pocket
until I do. I didn't really think turning the phone off before was
necessary, but I will turn it off next time I plan on leaving it in
the car.

Thanks all

Pah you people are so screwed: Democrats cannot win elections and
Republicans cannot govern the country. In fact the present lot care so much
more for Saudi Arabia than the US that they ought to apply for citizenship
there.

That way they could get four wives too and live next to Michael Jackson.

That's how Vlad Tepes kept the Turkish migrants out. It worked too.
