I'm going to try to get at least one of the annual free credit reports I'm
supposed to have available.

Any tips on what site to go to? What to watch out for? Dangerous mistakes I
could make? A quick

free credit report

Google search shows a large number of possibilities. Haven't looked at any
yet. Sounds too good to be true. What's in it for them? I suspect some are
dangerous.

TIA

You're correct to be concerned. Scam sites that trick you into thinking
they're the official annual credit report site is a big business. If you're
lucky, those scam sites will just sign you up into a credit monitoring
service which you'll have to remember to cancel you out of. If you're
unlucky, you just handed info over to an identity theft outfit.

I won't list the official URL because

1. It's not something I keep handy.
2. You shouldn't take my word for it any more than you should take
Google's (and Google isn't contending to send you to the official site
anyway)

Go to the FTC's website and look up the URL there. And of course, take all
the standard precautions (verify that the site is SSL and the SSL cert has
the correct info.)

And don't assume that it's the official site just because the owner is one
of the 3 credit bureaus.

www.annualcreditreport.com is the legit one, IIRC. Consumer Reports
magazine (et al.) recommends the best strategy is to stagger your
requests every four months; that is, get one from Experian in (say)
January, one from TransUnion in May, and one from Equifax in September;
this way, you'll be monitoring your reports on an ongoing basis.

Just be sure it's a legitimate site and be careful NOT to sign up for a
fee based, ongoing access. They are quite evasive in their "small print".

If you sign up for the subscription thing you can download it instantly,
complete with FICO score, then cancel the subscription 90 seconds later. I
do it that way every year. It's the fastest way and I've never paid a dime.

I noticed a puddle of water behind the trash can under our kitchen
sink a few days ago. After examining the various pipes and fresh water
lines, I discovered that the metal collar nut was cracked.

I took pictures of the repair process and wrote up a quick guide.
Hopefully someone will find it to be useful. The total cost was under
$4 and took about 30 minutes.

Here's the guide - http://www.paulstravelpictures.com/How-To-Fix-A-Leaking-Sink-Drain

Of course we know your objective is to drive people to your site and
test your camera work. The pictures look fine. It's your work that's
childish. Who needs to see a picture of your receipt for a plumbing
part? People who own a house should have things like Teflon tape on
hand for repairs. In my case I'd have the collar nut too. Since this
is a frugal group, I suggest that you don't need to cover the entire
area under the sink with napkins to check for leaks in the middle
under one pipe. I'd just use a pan.

I'm on a variable rate mortgage with generous pre-payment options, and
my current rate is around 2.25%. I have kept my payment the same as
when i signed, and the rate was 4.25. My mortgage is being paid down
rapidly. Sadly though, my 5 year term is coming to an end in a few
months. So I have to decide.

We have shorter terms here in Canada - your term and your amortization
period are not the same here. In general terms run 1- 5 years. (Some
offer 6 months, some as long as 7 years). It will be an interesting
calculation. Our central bank is trying to keep things low for the
next 6 months.

So I am personally benefiting from current interest rates.

I got my adjustable rate mortgage 25 years ago and it was 11% (good at the
time). It goes up or down once a year, no more than 1.5%. This year it's
4.50% and next year it will be 3.25%. A lot of people seem down on
adjustable rate mortgages, but unless the rules have changed (like no cap on
the % of change, maybe?) they're fantastic. My rate is always competitive
and I've never had to re-fi.

Sugar is poison and grain is sugar. Eating more than 50 grams of carbs a day
is not good for you and more than 25 grams from grains is crazy. A lot of
veg and dairy and a bit of fruit is fine. Grains should be consumed in
miniscule amounts, and wheat should be avoided by most people. Huge numbers
of people are allergic to wheat (in varying sensitivities) and don't have
any idea. Basically, the USDA food pyramid is upside down. Not quite, but
damned close. Grain is what food eats. Modern engineered corn shouldn't even
be consumed by food animals, however. The stuff that's in that crap is just
scary.

Another lie.

Graduation rates over 90%. (last June, Jasper

How odd that they do not bring their food from those hill farms that you claim are just like the Amish.

Thats has been done for a long time now, no useful conclusion has turned up.

And it is a lie that the Amish do not get any autistic children.

And then bankrupt you when you have a serious medical problem.

No, I haven't noticed. Even if we are following
Europe, I haven't seen any compelling argument
to believe that's a bad idea. It might be a bad idea;
it might be a good idea. Running in circles
screaming "The sky is falling! We're following Europe!"
does not form a reasoned argument.

Look, if the health care bill is going to
do the things you say, then it says so somewhere in the
bill. Quoting unrelated journal articles doesn't support your
position. Find where in the health care bill that it says
"government will have access to citizen's bank accounts",
and you will be more believable. Otherwise, you're just
fear-mongering.
