Most "new" cars are shipped with lower mileage tires but those tires handle
and grip better and are much quieter.

What was the treadlife rating for your tire? Sounds like it was a 360.
My Sebring was shipped with Goodyear Eagle LS that were 360T treadlife
rated. Performance type tire. I got 60 000 Kms from them. My new
Michelins are Harmony/Destiny/X-Radial type. They are rated for 760 or 130
000 kms. More than double the life. But they don't corner as well and
are much noiser than the shorter life tires.

Read up on Treadlife ratings. The Treadlife rating is on your tire.

Of course good brands make short-lived tires too. I once got some
Pirelli tires for my 98 Jetta GLX. Boy did those wear out fast. I
guess they were somewhat of a performance tire, also with its V6 engine
the car is somewhat heavier than most cars that use those sized tires.

What was the rated life of the tire?? 30K may be what
they were rated for.

Had the alignment checked recently?

Also check the wear pattern. Over or under inflated tires
will wear out faster.

A trick to extending tire life on a front wheel drive car
is to not rotate the tires. On a front wheel drive car
the front tires take most of the wear. Go ahead and let
them wear. Then replace them. But keep the rear tires.

Welcome to the Vista fan club. While my move to Vista was not as frugal
I believe it was worth it to upgrade to a new pc anyway, the last one
was over 6 years old so things were likely to start giving out soon. I
find Vista (Home Premium) to be a far better os than XP.

I have one of those cheap plastic battery powered sorters I bought for $.50 at a
yard sale. I just drop my coins in it. When a tube fills, I wrap it. Easy,
quick, and no losses.

I often find that stores are short of change, asking if I have change so that
they don't have to use theirs. They are happy to get some extra.

I'll agree that it's a scam but the idea is not entirely impossible.
You would probably need to get the source material from several
locations. Best would be straight from the studios and broadcasters
in digital form.

Unfortunately, it takes something faster than DSL or other slow
"broadband" connections to be able to receive full resolution video
in real time.

Cheap is being stingy, always going for the cheapest and being rather mean etc too.

Frugal is about best value for money, not necessarily not spending anything, but
spending what you do spend so you get best value, which may not always be the
cheapest, most obviously with stuff that lasts a lot longer even if it costs a bit more.

And there is a sense in which being frugal allows you to indulge yourself at times too.

The OEM tires on my previous 2000 Accord went over 100k.

The Goodyear OEM tires on my current 2005 Pilot look fine at 80K and
will likely also reach 100k.

Likely depends on driving habits as well as type / style of tire.

all these and other factors will affect the life of the tire.

I've had tires crap out at 30k, I've also had them that have lasted
60k, the reason is that the ones that lasted only 30k miles was
because they were "performance" tires and their composition didn't
make for a long lasting tire.
so to answer your question, yes after 30k miles some tires will be
worn out

My OEM Dunlops that came with my Van lasted close to 50,000 miles and
I am hard on tires. I could have gotten another 10,000 kms, but they
were bad in the winter (I run without snows), noisy and I didn't like
the handling charecteristics.

My replacements, Goodyear Tripletreds are 30,000 miles and still fine.

Some tires have softer grippier compounds that wear out faster.
So some of the tires that the boy racers use in their souped up Hondas
dont' last long. Long wearing tires tend to feel harsh.

All tires are a compromise.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. It is illegal to retransmit
copyrighted program with permission of the program provider.
Is is impossible for a single source to offer all the services they
claim to offer,especially local stations which are spot beamed to
specific areas. For example, I live in San Francisco and my dish gets
all the local tv stations but it is incapable of picking up stations
from New York.

The real reason Japan attacked the US was because of the
sanctions that the US applied as a result of what Japan got
up to in China and Nanking in particular. That meant that
Japan needed an alternative source of oil, because they
had previously got most of their oil from the US. So they
decided to take Indonesia from the Dutch, to get access
to that oil, and the realised that they wouldnt be able to do
that unless they wiped out the US Pacific Fleet. And that is
what Pearl Harbor was about, attempting to wipe out the
US Pacific Fleet so Japan could invade Indonesia and get
access to the oil that was available there.

Without the oil sanctions, there would have been no
need to attempt to seized Indonesia from the Dutch
for the oil, and no need to attack the US either.

It was well recognised in Japan that attacking the US was a
very risky venture, but the Japs decided that they had no choice
once oil sanctions were applied and that they had better attempt
to grab Indonesia while they still had enough oil on hand to do that.

What he wanted was completely irrelevant, if Japan had not attacked
the US at Pearl Harbor, he would not have gotten war with Japan.

I really do not understand why there are so many folks with vast
accumulations of coins. What I do is to use the coins as they are intended.
If my purchase comes to $8.32, I will rid my pocket of either $.32 cents or
if my pocket does not have that much, then I will give them either 2 cents
or 7 cents.

Seems to me I never have much more than $2-3 change in my pockets at a time.

my husband really needs an updated computer as his is about 5yrs old.
he's beginning to have problems running some software he needs to run.
we've been waiting, but i think it's getting critical.

yes, i was able to see that, but just how much better, and can i compensate
by bumping up
to the next faster processor? and is the intel a 32x2? if so, would the
amd's 64x2 be better
for the future for some reason? we tend to keep computers at least 5yrs if
we can, and in
fact kept our 1st one (486 with a whopping 40mb hard drive :) for 8 or so.
as long as they
do what we need, we don't feel the need to get the latest thing out. but
when we do, we feel
it's best to spend a little more and get one that will accomodate future
needs as much as possible.
i really don't know much about the technical side. i know processor speed,
cache, and ram are
important. i know i need a large enough hd and i know they have different
speeds as well, as
do dvd drives.

I just bought Vista Home Basic Upgrade Edition off ebay for $35 (costs
$99 in stores). It was technically used (but was taken off the previous
owner's PC), but I had no issues installing it. I did have to call the
800 #, however, to prove I had a legit copy of it in my hands. That
only took 5 minutes.

It installed quickly, only taking maybe 1.5 hours including the time to
fetch and install updates from the MS website. Lot less time and pain
to install Vista than to install XP. It recognized all of my hardware
(4 year old Compaq Evo 2.4 gig P4 with 768mb RAM, onboard
video/sound/USB 2.0 card, etc.).

It looks nicer than XP. The icons, menus, and the rest of the UI is
great. It seems to run just as fast as XP. And all my fave software
works on Vista -- iTunes, Open Office, Mozilla Thunderbird/Firefox, etc..

Basic does lack some of the features that the pricier versions of Vista
contain, but I don't really need any of those features like the
automated backup. I simply keep all my docs, pictures, and other data
in a single file, and then save that to a DVD disc periodically. Also,
the Aero interface (wich isn't included in Basic) is really just eye
candy. Plus my older hardware won't even run the Aero interface anyway,
so Basic not having Aero is no big deal. I'll probably buy a new PC in
a year, so I can then get a better version of Vista bundled with it.
