That is a great idea for those that can, but city folks often have some
neighborhood code against turning the front lawn into a vegetable garden. There
are some books in print on how to sneak a few vegetable plants into the flower
gardens. Also watch composting all kitchen scraps. Meat scrap can create
problems in the compost cycle and attract problems.

You may not want to sell that mower. It is handy to mow down the former
vegetable crop plants before roto-tilling them into the earth.

Compost is great for large amounts of vegetable scrap. If you can keep chickens
or rabbits, the vegetable scrap might be better used as feed. Hard to compost
leaves like oak will compost quicker if used as bedding under the chickens. Lay
the occasional board across part of the leaves to give protection to the
earthworms that will work the mass.

why thanks for the ideas.
another use I have for boards is to place them down in the garden to
trap slugs and small snails. it's then just a simple task to turn the
boards over to reveal their hiding place. dispose of them as you wish.
Happy Spring!

Dear Miss Manners,
Who should get the check? My question is in regards to the etiquette
of getting the check at the end of the meal. I was raised that if it
was not made very clear at the beginning (such as "don't worry we are
taking you out"), to always make an effort to pay. My parents taught
me it is polite to put up a little "argument over it," and I have
always tried to do this when I have the opportunity; whether it is
simply paying for myself or picking up the entire check.

My husband believes if you are out with someone a little more well off
you should simply take their offer, no argument.

I feel like this is rude, but my problem is that I am just out of
college and recently married. I can't necessarily follow through with
the "argument" if I win. We see our parents on a pretty regular basis,
and so tend to eat out with them frequently. The informality of these
dinners means that no one specifies who pays for whom. Should dinners
like these be understood as just dutch, or is it okay to simply accept
as soon as they reach for the bill?

Gentle Reader,
Your husband's theory that those with more money should subsidize the
entertaining of those with less is doomed. Miss Manners promises you
that eventually, the perpetual hosts will feel that they are valued
only for their ability to pick up the bill.

Yes, sometimes even parents. The long habit of paying for their
children often remains; many parents prefer to continue to do so and
will make sure they win any such polite arguments as you mention. But
even they will be flattered if you occasionally make a point of
issuing a clear invitation at which you are the hosts -- at a place
that you can afford.

(end)

Lenona.

Just how many and give an example of such a site. When they ask for a
cell phone number, it generally involves messeging or talk/data
transmission in some way. When a site asks for a cell phone number out
of the blue or for them to send you the answer to something, that's a
scam to harvest your cell phone number. It sounds like you are lucky
you don't have a cell phone number to give as you would be a prime
target for a scam.

I seem to recall that Craig's List was doing some kind of
authentication like this. Users in some areas of the site were
asked for a cell phone number to receive a TXT message with a
code to enter when making their post. Basically an anti-spam
measure, and also making it hard for one person to post with
multiple handles.

Even if I had a cell phone, I'd have no interest in making it easy for people to
make junk calls to it, sticking me with the bill.

I've always been confused why motorists who run down cyclists, let
them rot on the asphalt...instead of hopping out of their vehicles,
lighting up the tailgait barbecue...and eat them!

No, it's a social problem, The answer is proving all citizens with
unversal health care and housing, guaranteed living income (whether
one is presently employed or not)...in a nutshell: socialized
democracy in the fashion of western Europe.

Your callous response is typical of Darwinian elitists...who, I might
add, have grossly distorted Charles Darwin's theories in order to
justify the promotion of a brutal and ignorant ideology.

>Trivial to avoid, dont get involved in mortages you cant cover.

Many people become homeless through no fault of their own.
Homelessness is a symptom of a sick society, not of a sick individual.
Perfect example: you are not homeless, yet obviously quite sick in the
head.

>Most animals dont even have homes, stupid.

Yes they do, stupid! Nests, lairs, burrows, dens, farms, canopies, and
so on.

>
>That never happens.

It's getting there, and rather rapidly. Thousands die off every year,
from lack of decent health care that they can't afford...over 40,000.
More and more people are going homeless...more and more homeless
deaths as a result.

>> Since those that have jobs view the homeless with disgust and> hatred,

You have that bass-ackwards, should be: "Plenty do, some don't". The
poor and downtrodden are villified in every walk of Amerikan life.
They are society's scapegoats...who wouldn't even be in that position
if an affluent nation distributed its wealth fairly. Amerika does not.

>I suggest that you kill yourself forthwith.

I think it would be better for this world if you followed your own
cold-hearted advice.

>
>Doesnt happen like that.

Wow, you are dirt ignorant!

>Not a chance. My house is fully paid off and has been for decades now.

That won't save you. People who fully own their homes can, and do, go
homeless...often because of some tragic accident or illness that wipes
out their entire finances.

>Makes a hell of a lot more sense for fools like you to kill yourself without them.

But you're a bigger fool, and I don't see you committing suicide.

>You wouldnt know what realistic as if it bit you on your lard arse.

You're no authority.

>Yes, fools like you should be terminated on sight.

And a hateful goon, as well.

Thanks for including homophobes. This country needs to stop excusing
them base on their religious belief. Otherwise, any kind of hatred and
violence will eventually be justified by virtue of religion.

Continuing to allow homophobia is the weak link that eventually allows
all other bigotries to break through the chain.
