I don't know how much longer I can get Jim McNamara to be my second for our
duel on the banks of the Ohio. He has lots of other troubles right now. Jim
and I have had our differences over the years. but I trust him. He is after
all a gentleman.

This duel must be arranged just right or I will refuse to enter into it. It
must be as prescribed by every novel I ever read in my misspent youth. Honor
is all that matters. It must be a gentlemanly duel with pistols at the crack
of dawn, and only on the banks of the Ohio. No other river will do. I
suggest we wear Victorian clothing reminiscent of the 19th century. God, I
simply hate this fucking 21st century.

In the event of my death, I will bequeath all of my pussy cats (12) to you.
They are far better than you, but you have shown yourself to be a cat lover,
so you can't be all bad even though you are a liberal-socialist-communist
bastard of the worst sort.

Wasn't it the Christians who burned most of the classics, and the
Arabs the ones who saved many of the remaining books?

You are a librarian so you are the man who should have the facts
straight...

(why does it take a monkey to remind you?)

(I QUOTE)

I got an interesting question a while back that took a LOT of
research, but which was also very instructive...the questioner wrote:

Interesting page. I was recently researching Josh McDowell's "Evidence
That Demands A Verdict", and in Chapter 5, he provides evidence of the
Bible's survivability throughout time.

He points out that The Bible has survived longer, and has been copied
so many more times than other works.

Isn't that a bit of a half-truth? I understand that the early church
used to throw away non-Christian literature, or edit it (as in the
Josephus testimony, where a Christian scribe added in the section
about Jesus). The Dark ages were caused, in part, by the burning of
many non-Christian writings on science, literature, engineering, and
Mathematics, because many Christian scribes who copied books for a
living, felt that it was the right thing to do.

The Islamic world, on the other hand, did not suffer the kind of dark
ages that the Christian world did, and they actually preserved many of
the works that Christians destroyed. By the time of the crusades, many
Europeans were rediscovering books that they thought were long since
destroyed.

To me book burners are book burners, even if they demanded the burning
the Bible.

The Dark Ages came about due to the Fall of the Roman Empire and various
barbarian tribes pouring into Europe who did not have a clue about
civilization. It was Christianity (mainly Protestantism) which crated the
conditions for the rise of science as a way of knowing things. No other
culture ever did that. If you had had a liberal arts education at the
college level, you would know this. You are just as ignorant as Tom Sherman
about anything that matters.

The Islamic world never got out of the Dark Ages. Hells Bells, they are
still living in the Dark Ages. Only the Christian West alleviates somewhat
their Medieval mind set.

Funny, but obviously NOT the real Derald witing. The real Derald is
much smarter and would have quickly realized that " What makes
'bloggers think anyone but them and, maybe, their mothers gives a
rat's ass about what's going on in their silly heads? " could be said
of <ahem> those who engage in feeble usenet reparte between tibeten
cyclists, aussie idiots, and Chinamen advertising Nike. Those are
their caring and insightful playmates. One hesitates to think WHAT
their mothers must have been like for those lusers to be held in such
high regard.

Blogs are faucets that pay money. Usenet has become the toilet where
the roaches are taking over.

As war criminals go, the one referenced was a bit smarter than the one
whose most convincing defense for missing the mark and getting
thousands killed without cause was... "duh... I got bad intelligence."
The first got us to the moon. The second should have been sent there.

Enough. I've got better things to do. Try not to foul the playpen
too much.

Not that you care, but I'm one of those Huntsville residents.

I wonder what your course of action would be if someone pointed a gun in
your face and told you to work on your assigned task or die?

Clearly, the heat and humidity has caused most of your brain to turn

Yesterday my son and I went camping in our 1969 Ford Econoline. This
morning, we washed the windows and cleaned the wiper blades - one of
which promptly came apart. The rubber had come apart, that is. I
remember just a few years ago, spending $3 for a pair of wiper blade
refills.

We visited numerous stores in search of wiper blade refills - Meijer,
a couple of auto parts places, Kmart, and Wal-Mart. Only one of them
had any selection at all of wiper blade refills, but not the size we needed.

Instead of spending 3 or 4 bucks for a couple of refills, I had to
replace the entire metal assembly for over $6 each. That's over 3 times
what I was expecting to spend, simply because I couldn't replace only
the part that had worn out.

Now I'm left with the old metal wiper blade assemblies, which appear
to be of better quality than the new ones.

Is there no national chain that still carries a good selection of
wiper blade refills? I feel like I should get a couple, then put these
on the shelf for next time. I hate throwing them away, just because
people have gotten used to throwing them all away each time. What a
waste of resources!

The blades I need are 8mm wide, which is just about 2mm wider than
the widest one that single auto parts place had.

It's a horrible shame and something you should report, that google doesn't seem

Hell, I'm surprised that you got "a few years ago" service from replacement
refills! My experience and reaction was the same as yours. Within a fifteen mile
radius, I have an Advance, an Autozone, a NAPA and a Walmart (which doesn't
count). None of them carries just the slide-in refills. Now, I get to pay approx
three times the price for _plastic_ blade assemblies. The Advance chickie-pop,
looking as if she'd seen a Neaderthol, informs me that "nobody sells just the
refills anymore". It's that old free money thing: Force the rubes to spend an
additional five bux for something that costs twelve cents to manufacture and get
on the shelves and that he doesn't need in the first place. I think they learned
it from those damnable telephone companies that charge the gullible exhorbitant
prices for "plans" consisting of unneeded and largely unused "services" that
cost nearly nothing to provide. And you know what? It ain't gonna get no better.

When it comes to safety items (tires, brakes, wipers, etc.) It doesn't
pay to be cheap.

Wipers arent a safety item, even you should notice when they stop working properly.

A couple of things we may suggest to the Dutch experts (since we can
spot the problems as well):

1- In Amsterdam and Copenhagen... "speed limits within these cities
are on the order of 30 km/hr or 19 mph."

2- "The vast majority of bicyclists in the US have no real
possibilities of cycling in environments like those of Portland or
Davis."

3- "Most state and local DOT officials have little interest in making
communities safe for bicyclists."

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0870714198/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

We tried the bridge from Aventura to Collins and found out that
neither pedestrians nor cyclists have minimal protection from highway
speeds. Ramps at sidewalks are missing, and you wonder if there's
another kinder gentler bridge over the canal. In fact, when you get to
the top of the bridge and you see the water below... you feel like
ending the suffering. Just kidding, just 30 minutes later we were
swimming at the beach. Remember, LIFE CAN BE A BEACH!
