Well it's your choice of course, but you can also run programs in a
previous version of windows using program settings. I think you can
change that option in properties section of Vista.

I could kick myself for not purchasing XP from Office Depot when it
was on sale for $30 with a $30 rebate as Vista was coming out. Now you
can find it for about $80 somewhere and even less on Ebay with
supposed valid licenses. Personally, I'd prefer to stay with XP over
Vista because VISTA won't run some of the old printers I use. I have
also run into situations where Vista just doesn't do what it supposed
to do. It's not a crash, just non performance. If they were giving
Vista away for the same price as XP, I'd probably take it though.

Ideal if one is doing it as they get them....which certainly wasn't our
situation at all.

I use the CoinStar only for pennies
since vending machines don't take pennies,
and I choose "donate to Unicef" so there's no fee deducated.
I agree: I've never been credited nickles or dimes when counting pennies.

I no longer have any coins in the car's coin tray
since nearly all toll roads in NY/NJ/CT/PA/MD/VA
take E-Z Pass, but I use coins (particularly dollar coins)
when buying train tickets from the vending machines
and I need quarters for the laundromat.

I stopped keeping change in my car when the city began offering
pre-paid parking cards. They are $20 and $50. You insert them into a
slot on the meter. The stored value is displayed and then it deducts in
increments of 25 cents which is ten minutes in most neighborhoods and 5
minutes or less downtown. I have not had a parking ticket since using
these cards.

I save my coins as a type of savings plan. To me it is painless, just
empty my pockets at the end of the day. I emptied three years of coins
in a CoinStar and let it count the money and I had over $1,500! It
made a nice vacation.

BTW my bank will not cash more than a few dollars worth of coins even
with an account.

There is a bank in the NY-NJ area that lets non-customers use their
counter. Can't remember the name.

I like how Bill Hicks (R.I.P.) put it: if Jesus came back, do you

I work at home and have an unlimited calling plan on my main phone.
When I upgraded to DSL the potential savings onstand alone DSL was so
small that I kept the extra line and use it for my fax.
I use my cell as a call back number and have that number on any
printed material . My main land line has caller ID,call waiting and
three way. Friends know that if ,after 4 rings, they do not me or my
machine it means I am on the phone but know that the called. I also
have the privacy feature that prevents most blocked numbers from
calling me. Every so often I see "private number". I never answer and
they rarely leave a message so I know it is a telemarketer.

People spend money based on how much they think they have, and that
perception is easily manipulated.

In one experiment, 55 shoppers at a supermarket were asked a series of
questions about their wallets. Did they have any library cards? Did
they carry pictures or cash? How many other wallets did they own?

An equal number were asked similar questions about their financial
portfolios. Both groups then went shopping.

The second group of shoppers, who had been asked to think about their

Call a family meeting. Explain to the children what is happening in
the economy and with your budget. Tell everyone the family will have a
bountiful Christmas but with one big difference: Christmas day will be
delayed until January 25th! Why? To allow gift shopping at deeply
discounted prices! Proceed as follows:

Right now, dispel the "Santa Claus" myth and tell your children the
real truth. If it is your religious persuasion, explain the TRUE
reason for the season. Lay the gift budget out on the table for the
kids. Explain how "less can become more" with after Christmas
discounts.

On December 26th, buy the family Christmas tree and ornaments at a
discount. Or, pick up a tree from the side of the road on trash day
for free. Start your Christmas shopping for gifts and stocking
stuffers. After the New Year, take advantage of inventory reduction
and tax sales.

Celebrate the twelve days of Christmas from January 14th until the
25th. Enjoy the season and the savings one month later than most!

I love gifts just as much as the next person, but when you start
seeing Christmas displays being put out enmasse
weeks before Halloween, or in *September*, and the media is pumping
out endless commercialized sludge (and very sickening in it's
blatancy), then something is seriously wrong. Maybe they should have
"gift day" or something to separate the commercialism from Christmas,
as it should be.

"Gift day" could be in November, or January.

It was always a pagan ceremony, fuckwit child.

Hey Dale,

Not knocking Jackson Commodities, but did you take a PEE test before
applying for and getting a Commodity Broker License? Did Jackson
Commodities do a background check on you?

You smoke POT Dale, so why would anyone trust you and what you say?
You even said in other posts, that you put POT in small baggies, in
your freezer.

Then you NEVER produced my phone number, in which you claimed I prank-
called you 3-4 times, and then you called me back, etc....and this
"phone number," would show up on your phone bill, but we already know,
you LIED about this event, and it NEVER happened!!!

What happened to sitting by your pool all day, tanning? Why did you
HAVE to get a REAL DAY JOB, and become this so called "Commodity
Broker?" You said what you do in your trading, is very simple, and
that you make trades and tons of money, just sitting by the pool,
tanning during the day, and then downloading the days markets at
night, and then running your Astro-Jetsons, Sun spot, Moon Cycle
software program that Papa Legan is using. What happened to the
hundreds of Farmers/clients/Hedge Fund Managers, Elevators, etc....
that take your daily/weekly trading advice....you know, the 18 clients
you had in you Google group this past year or so, or the 6 you had in
Yahoo groups a few years ago, before you shut it down?

So why would anyone have any faith and trust, in someone who behaves
in such a DEVIOUS manner that you do Dale? No doubt, you DUCKED and
DODGED your answers when you applied for work at Jackson Commodities,
so in that effect, perhaps someone should contact them, and ask to
speak to the President/CEO of Jackson Commodities, along with the CFTC/
NFA, and make sure you play by the rules!!!!

Sincerely,
gerillio...The REAL ONE!!!

I haven't even seen a Coinstar kiosk anywhere in L.A for the past
several years, but I'm sure they are here. Are people really that lazy
that they can't count the coins in advance and need to go to a robot
to do it (don't take this as a flame, it's something I have wondered
for years now ever since I heard about it)? In fact, this would be a
much better activity than sitting down and getting sludge pumped at
you from the tee vee.

I used coinstar once. I had $210 worth of coins. It would have taken
me hours to count and roll all of those. For $20, I did it in about
10 minutes. Since I freelance as a web developer/programmer for $80
an hour, it was a simple ROI calculation to make the decision.

Well.. just recently while cleaning my deceased mother in law's
apartment (out of state) out we found multiple jars and bags of coins
she'd been stashing. Time was at a premium so coinstar machine certainly
was the best option for us. We ended up with $397.00 that we didn't have
to haul or carry out of state. Try carrying that much coin in carry on
luggage at the airport....

One approach my friends take with their change is to get the rolls form
the bank and pay their children (ages 11 and 4) to roll the coins. I
think for quarters they may get a dollar per roll (which is what
Coinstar charges, but they'd rather pay their children and teach them
about working to earn money).

Count your change before leaving the counter.

On occasion I have received extra change.

One time that I sort of regret mentioning it was when I gave 100.05 for a
84.03 (or something like that) purchase and the cashier rang it up as 105.00.
I told her how to correct it, but it took ten minutes and a manager to do it
right.

It's a simple question of how much garbage and abuse you are willing
to wade through to find a few rare postings containing any information
of even modest value.

It's like the old question of "What would you do for a nickel?"
Would you fetch one out of a clean toilet? Out of a toilet filled
with waste? Would you fight with a mean dog? Dash out into a busy
street to pick it up? Would you argue with a drunk?

Everyone has some point where they figure the rewards are not worth
what you have to go through.

Anthony

It might not be as frugal as XP, but I seriously recommend Vista over
XP. I used to run an XP powered desktop, but switched to a Vista powered
laptop aand it's a much more stable operating system. I have been
running the laptop now for about 10 months and have not had a single
issue. Where as on my XP desktop I had it crash (hard) every couple of
months.

I've heard quite a few complaints about driver issues and some
software not running on Vista. Particularly with DVTV. With that said, I
have a new MB, new video card and new DVTV tuner and they all claim to
be Vista compliant.

I kept on, and had the deck screwed before dark. Hmmm, that didn't
come out right...

The pace of the work we held in constructing the deck and ease of
communication made it about one of the most enjoyable construction
projects I've ever worked on. I still am amazed that I completely
forgot about eating. Let me know about your nailer. I'll pay for
whatever is required.

Ended up having to drive Mrs. Chickpea to Bham yesterday. Total time
expended 4 hrs, including stops for gas and breakfast, plus the stop
at the destination. When I got back I was able to paint half the
study during the rain. I'll do the rest today and hope to get to work
on the power as well.
