You are posting to the wrong group, son. See, everybody here already
is rich. We got in early when the first genius posted about the $6
investment scheme. A few folks thought it was a scam, but when they
saw pictures of the rest of us on our yachts like Tom Vu, they quickly
fell into line and started disrupting every newsgroup they could with
the investment opportunity. Our problems now involve finding tax
shelters and worthy 501c3's to donate to.
Sorry you missed the boat.

When I was a wee lad, a kid could go to the drug store and purchase
bulk chemicals from the pharmacist. With a little knowledge, a kid
could make things go boom. Nobody I knew ever got hurt from it. We
could not afford 29¢ for breakfast.

One fool in my school class blew his hand right off, quite literally.

My father was an electrical engineer with a chemistry background. He
used to make nitroglycerin and explode it as a kid. I learned some
safety measures, but still was lucky to survive to adulthood in one
piece.

Tons of salt and cholesterol, what's not to love? It's really hard to ruin
breakfast. I heard about this and then forgot about it until just now. It was
on my way, too...

When I was in college Bob's had hash browns, one egg and toast for 35 cents.
Coffee was extra.

We used to buy chemistry sets at yard sales. My baby son liked to make gunpowder...

My HS chem lab partner liked to mix random things together. Fortunately all he
created was bad-smelling smoke.

My grandma used to knit woollen soakers. They were a very WW II thing.
All 5 of us had soakers pulled on over our cloth diapers. They are
dead easy to knit.

I used plastic pants pulled on over diaper-service cloth diapers.

I hear that there is now a diaper-free movement (no pun intended.) How
green can you get, eh?

Perhaps you should think twice about buying wool anything for a baby- with
baby's skin so "new" and sensitive, wool could be irritating if not cause
a down-right allergy.

There are still patterns out there for them, too.

I just double-diapered my children (making a half-twist to go between
the legs to reduce horizontal bulk) who had extra-sensitive skin and I
didn't need soakers, but I bought top-quality cloth diapers.

No pins. They can weigh POUNDS by the time you need to change them. No diaper
rash. I guess they could be improved if somebody figured out how to make them
absorb babyshit, leaving a clean bottom, but that's probably too much to ask.

My sister gave us some Kroger Veggietales fruit snacks Sunday. Box
was still sealed, as were all of the pouches. I gave half the box to my
kids over the past couple of days, and then opened another pouch today
and started eating a few. I had to spit them out, because there was
something really awful and gritty on them.

Take a look, here:

http://img13.imageshack.us/my.php?image=krogerveggietalesfruitsxj6.jpg

The contaminant is gritty, kind of like charcoal or graphite, and
breaks up if you take a spoon or something and try to crush it.
However, it does not make a mark on a white piece of paper. It was
stuck all over every single piece of the fruit snacks.

This stuff was in there right when the sealed pouch was opened.
Clearly, it is NOT supposed to be in there, nor is it anything you would
think to look for when you are grabbing a few to munch on.

I'm not sure exactly what I should do. I doubt I'm the only one who
has run into this.

On one hand, I don't want other people to be running into this if it
is dangerous or widespread. However, I'm sure the company doesn't want
the expense of a recall or anything like that. If I simply take it to
Kroger, they will probably brush it off and offer me a free package, and
that would be the end of it.

Anyone have any suggestions? I haven't ever run into anything like
this before, so I'm not sure what I should do. I tried calling the
telephone number on the package, but just got put on hold, and
eventually I hung up.

I would dig up the contact information for the local branch of the food
inspection agency. You could be saving lives.

I'd also take yourself, and your kids, to the doctor to see what it is you
guys have ingested. Have a sample of the stuff on hand for your doctor to
have tested, and another sample for the food inspection folks.

I would not panic over it myself. It looks like some burned
crystallized product fell into the mix on the production line. It
would make me mad that they did not respond to your call, but I would
not spend any time or money trying to eek some booty from the company.
That just drives the cost up for everybody.

Also, you may wish to learn how to compress photos. Just because your
camera takes 1.2MB pictures does not mean they will appear any clearer
than a 50kb photo properly saved. Consider using irfanview and or RIOT.

Do you have more unopened packs? Hang on to them. Contaminated food
should be dealt with harshly. I would think the company would want to
find out what it was.

OK, so it's a joke.

But not really.

http://www.theagitator.com/2009/02/01/a-letter-id-like-to-see-but-wont/

It's a fictional piece written by Radley Balko. It's very good.

However, one thing not quite mentioned (as Sam Harris did in his book,
"The End of Faith") is how horribly short we are on cash for the
prevention of nuclear terrorism and how this wouldn't be the case if
pot were legal.

Some bars have banned it because they look too much like real

Some of the models don't emit any vapour if it's inhaled but to be
honest with any of them if you keep the vapour inhaled long enough,
there will be none on exhale so you can get away with it anywhere if
you're sneaky. Best advice is to ask when you want to use it where you
are not sure about it being permitted. Some of the kits come with
little cards you can hand out. The myth is that there is no smell, but
really there is a faint scent that people can pick up on - it's
stronger with different flavours and I've noticed that if I have my
heating turned on the car, the smell will be stronger.

The other myth is that it the vapour is 'only water vapour'. It's not
- What makes the vapour appear as smoke is propylene glycol - the same
chemical used to make fog in fog machines though the Chinese
manufacturers promise that they only use food grade PG which of course
is hard to verify.

Also the World Health Organisation recently replied to a member of an
e-cig forum that it would be advising member nations that electronic
cigarettes "not be exempted from clean air laws that restriction
restrict cigarette smoke exposure until adequate evidence is provided
to assure the regulatory authority that use of the product will not
expose people to toxic emissions.".

Suppliers are being advised not to make cessation claims unless you
have the clinical studies to back them up lest you ruin it for all
users. Keep e-cigs legal !

Yea, must be the great Wade Greatski taking it to the hole once again.
He's trying to break Wilbur Chamberlain's record.
If it were real, I'd pay dearly not to see it.

Hello All:

I our local discussion group in Silicon Valley ( http://www.yahoogroups.com/groups/scc_cafe/
), somebody is talking about a free international call service. I
guess there is a limit of 10 minutes/day, and you have to watch an add
first.

Here is what the guy gave as the URL.

I have enjoyed
McDonald's Angus third pounder burger
in Manhattan and Brooklyn for $3.99

Yesterday I was in Astoria part of Queens, NYC and they were $4.59!!

Has McDonald's raised the prices of Angus burgers.

How much are they where you are?

A Congress is working to give the banks more money. Why not let a
couple

Two things we must keep in mind:

1) The initial TARP money was to save or stabilize as many banks and
affected businesses as possible. Period. Main Street was not
invited.

2) Neither Congress or the Bush administration planned, insisted
upon, or approved transparent bailouts.

$350 billion unaccounted for dollars LATER, we'll see that this was
the first BIG SCANDAL of the Great Bush Depression.

Hope they are better than they were 30 years ago. Cloth was so much
easier / faster to change & didn't fail nearly as often.

We'd use them when away from home, but most always used cloth at home.

Even free would not be enough to draw me into a Denny's.

First requirement is to have something eatable.

Second is to have a minimum level of service.

It's pretty hard to screw up bacon & eggs with pancakes and sausage.
Really long lines so I just took a rain check.

When I was a wee wee lad, there was a drug store that had egg, toast,
& coffee for 29 cents.

I hadn't been to a Denny's in years or maybe a decade, then last July we
arrived into our hotel in Salt Lake City pretty late, after flying from
SFO. There was a Denny's next to the hotel, so 12 of us trooped over
there. It was surprisingly good, much better than I remembered. Real
milk shakes, good onion rings, and the sandwiches and stuff were okay.
You have to remember to never order anything that is in a plastic pouch
that they just reheat in a microwave. Order things that have to be
grilled or fried. A lot of these types of restaurants offer entrees that
are really horrible. The first and last time I ever went to Applebee's
(on a road trip) the waitress even mentioned that you couldn't have
ingredients left out of many of the entrees because they all come
pre-made and pre-packaged.

We stopped paying for cable TV last September when we got the

Meanwhile the wireless carriers keep trying to stop people from pay as
you go data. Verizon no longer offers it on new smart phones, though on
one two year old model you can still pay by the MB.

"Carlyle-Owned Auto Parts Maker Enters Bankruptcy"

By Thomas Heath
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, February 3, 2009; D03

A German auto parts manufacturer owned by Carlyle Group declared
bankruptcy yesterday, causing the District-based private-equity giant
to lose its $180 million investment, a Carlyle spokesman said
yesterday.

The insolvency of Edscha, which manufactures door hinges, convertible
roofs and driver controls for major carmakers, follows a 50 percent
drop in some of the company's businesses during the fourth quarter of
2008.

"Edscha succumbed to the double-barreled effect of an ailing worldwide
economy and a suffering automobile industry," Carlyle spokesman Chris
Ullman said.

Carlyle bought Edscha in January 2003 and grew sales from $1 billion
in 2005 to almost $1.4 billion in the fiscal year that ended June
2008.

With a collapse in the worldwide automobile market last year, business
at Edscha plummeted. Carlyle injected $25 million in December to help
see Edscha through the economic downturn, the company said.

Edscha, which was established in 1870, employs about 6,000 people at
29 factories worldwide. The company made parts for several BMW models
and Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé models, according to Automotive
News.

Carlyle has suffered in the current economic malaise along with
everyone else.

The company announced in December that it would lay off about 100
members of its 1,000-employee staff, which stretches across 33 offices
in 21 countries.

In November, Carlyle closed its Warsaw office and ended financial
operations in some Eastern European and Asian markets, which resulted
in 18 layoffs.

In December, one of its investments, Hawaiian Telcom Communications,
filed for bankruptcy protection.

Last March, Carlyle wrote off a $700 million investment in its Carlyle
Capital affiliate.

Despite the slowdown, Carlyle has pulled off a few deals this year. It
bought the government operations unit of Booz Allen Hamilton for $2.54
billion last summer and recently sold automotive company AxleTech
International to General Dynamics for what Carlyle called "an
excellent gain."

Edscha is part of a fund called Carlyle Europe Partners I that to date
has returned twice its initial investment, Ullman said.

Overall, Ullman said, "our global portfolio of 200 companies is doing
well, and we have $40 billion in capital to invest."

Yup! If Bush was in office he would have filled those jobs with red
blooded Americans who are only qualified to clean toilets. So, which
is better?

Bush's idea of full employment is give them jobs as military dead

You are posting to the wrong group, son. See, everybody here already
is rich. We got in early when the first genius posted about the $6
investment scheme. A few folks thought it was a scam, but when they
saw pictures of the rest of us on our yachts like Tom Vu, they quickly
fell into line and started disrupting every newsgroup they could with
the investment opportunity. Our problems now involve finding tax
shelters and worthy 501c3's to donate to.
Sorry you missed the boat.
