I just figured they saw "consumers" in the newsgroup name, and confused
this newsgroup with the actual consumer newsgroup, misc.consumers

Used to be, but not anymore. One night on the cancer ward will cost more than you ever saved your entire smoking career. Hell, the depreciation of your car from that stank is more than you'll ever "save".

I snipped the rest of your rant, because it just pointed to your real problem. You ooze attitude. The WalMart drones picked up on it and effed with you. Nothing better than screwing with a customer with a 'tude, dude. I bet they yukked it up the rest of the shift after you left. "The look on his face when I said 1.5 is not the same as 1 1/2. Priceless. I thought he was going to blow a gasket."

You must have slipped and let on that you were going to the other WalMart. They probably called ahead to have them continue the joke. No one, ever, has been fired from Wally World for having a passive-aggressive attitude.

BTW, I had a friend who smoked that rank Captain Black crap. I love the smell of a good pipe. And that stuff is not a good pipe. The smell gets into everything. And then they tobacco crumbs all over the place. I feel sorry for whoever has to suffer you smoking.

So today I receive my power bill. First
celebration because it has really dropped with the
air conditioners no longer in use. Then
irritation with the money saving power tips.
Quanted, the tips offered would save electric use.
But they would also, for the most part, cost more
than the savings.

One tip was to replace all appliances over a given
age with new power star appliances. Yes, this
would save electric power use, but the expense for
any one of the suggested new appliances would
probably cost more than that savings.

Another tip was to replace the water heater with a
new power star unit. This would save power use,
but again cost more than the power savings. Not
suggested was less expensive things like an
insulation jacket for the water heater that would
save money year around. Or possibly just
replacing an old set of temperature controls and
heating elements with new clean ones. Or possibly
just flush the tank and get rid of any settlement
that is a waste to heat.

Of course they also offered the old standard of
open curtains by day and closed curtains by night.
What they did not mention was using heavier better
insulating 'winter' curtains with at least one set
of proper sheers. I am considering at least two
layers of sheers, more if I have them available.
Maybe a blanket over the curtains. I expect this
winter to be really cold for us.

Then again most of these 'wonderful' hints on
saving electrical power seemed aimed at people
heating with electricity. I don't. I heat with
wood. That really saves on the electricity. LOL

Energy Star, I believe. Makes a big difference with AC's. A non Energy
Star AC runs the fan all the time.

Or used, but newer appliances.

Aside from the blanket, I don't think cleaning the tank will do anything
other than make it last longer, which is not a bad thing. I wrapped my
water heater in a fiberglass blanket, cheaper than the commercial
product and a higher R value.

I'm big on inside storm windows. Wooden frame a half inch thick with
mylar or heat shrink on each side. You don't have to remember and you
can still use the curtains. You can bubble wrap the windows if you don't
need clarity.

A lot to be said for comfort, regardless of the heating method.

Most savings tips are really designed to make someone else money.

Yes and no.

Plasma uses more than CFL/LCD (commonly called LCD).
CFL/LCD uses more than LED/LCD (commonly called LED).

Bigger uses more than smaller, within the same design.

Other than that, individual designs vary.

But in general, a large LED uses less than a smaller Plasma.

Indeed. Not sure how true this still is but the peak brightness affects
energy draw. Settings that have brighter highlights draw more power.
Limiting the dynamic range, in what used to be an Energy Saver setting
limited power draw. So, individual designs can very much vary.

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57579932-221/what-you-need-to-know-about-tv-power-consumption/

Note that the 47" LED LG draws about the same power as the 32" LED
Samsung and a lot less than the 46" LED Sony.

It's complex.

It's the cable box that sucks the power. I don't know why they don't force
that industry into using equipment that uses less power. One cable box uses
about the same amount of electricity as a refrigerator. So if you have more
than one, just think of how much extra you are paying for the stupid box. I
cut my electric bill by $10 a month by using the remote control surge
protector that turns off the power source the cable box when not in use. I
just have to remember to switch it on about 20 minutes before watching
television to give the programming guide time to load up.

Things have changed. My TV set runs Linux, so like a computer, it
actually has to boot up every time I turn it on. The alternative is
having it run all the time, but just in a sleep state.

And so many things now require settings, and if you remove power to them,
such as with a power bar, you then have to fuss with the settings every
time you turn it on. Or, if the thing doesn't have power, you can't turn
it on with a remote. So some of the issue is much fancier equipment than
int he past.

Gee, the blu-ray player I found on the sidewalk at the begnning of July
(no remote, and once I cleaned the lense over the laser, it works) has an
ethernet connection on the back, it doesn't just play blu-ray discs, it's
a computer that needs to be hooked up to the internet to be useful.

That's a big difference from the days when the most expensive electronics
in a household was a tv set, with a big physical channel switch on it.

The surge protector I use has four remote controlled outlets and the rest
are normal. Since my television is LED, it doesn't use much power, so I
plug it into the regular outlets well as the DVD player and Roku. The cable
box is the only one that sucks so much power, so it is the only thing I plug
into a remote controlled outlet so it can easily be turned off and on
without having to reach behind or under the rest of equipment attached to my
television. Since we have three different cable boxes in our home, the
savings was substantial and worth the 10 to 20 minute wait for the
programming guide to load. Even if the cable box is "off" it is still
drawing a large amount of electricity because that programming guide is
constantly reloading. When the outlet it is plugged into is off, it isn't
drawing a bit of power. The point is to avoid paying for electricity 24/7
when the television that cable box is attached to might only be watched for
2 hours a day. Google power usage of cable boxes and you will see what I
mean. It is atrocious.

In Florida, there are no property taxes associated with living in a camper

I can take the savings and have my money manager invest the rest. Winning!

there are property taxes associated with the property you park on which
you will pay directly or indirectly.

there are vehicle registration fees for your camper trailer

what savings? you will either have to buy a piece of property or pay
rent on someone else's property, you won't get a tax deduction for a
mortgage and your maintenance will be higher on your camper

and then there's the car/truck

paid them. ;-)

The savings I was referring to was the savings from the small business that
I run. I'm semi-retired now.
I only work when I want to. I throw a lot of parties...now that can get
expensive, but lemonade is cheap to make in florida/

I drive around in a classic Mercedes that I am very proud of. It is older
so I can work on it myself. Can you say SAVINGS?

there ARE fees for your trailer: not paying them is only viable if you
don't get caught...get caught and you owe all back fees and penalties

and of course it's much easier, legally and physically, to IMPOUND your

What you should know about wipers problems?
How to solve wiper CLEANING problems?

Visibility
Clear visibility is extremely important when driving. Vision is the sense mostly utilised when driving. No compromise on visibility should be accepted.
Wiper problems as streaking, flutter, bugs, snow or heavy rain being spread in front of your vision or wiper lift when facing wind at highway speed are very annoying and could become dangerous in particular when the driver is facing sun. This happens especially when the sun is low in the sky in the morning or before night exactly when we commute to work and the traffic is at its peak.
Why a bad cleaning?
The cause of these frequent problems were identified as originating from a weak pressure applied on the wiper blade by the wiper arm since air lift occurs when driving. The arm and blade are pulling off the windshield by the air creating a vacuum over them.
Also when we clean a surface of dirt, we have to apply some effort to detach this dirt on the surface. It is the exact same thing with wiper cleaning the windshield. Some pressure must be added to obtain a good cleaning.
How come this happen?
This originates from the wiper arm spring which is located within the wiper arm. This spring is pulling in a direction along the arm instead of applying pressure in the direction of the windshield. The pressure applied by the arm is then not sufficient to achieve a good cleaning job. The leverage of this spring is very small since the wiper arm has a small thickness. Also, as frequently encountered in much mechanism, the space allowed to install the proper size spring is not sufficient. Wiper arms are not very wide or thick.
Aerodynamic
Also, fuel consumption is becoming an issue and to reduce it, car manufacturers lower the profile of vehicles to decrease the aerodynamic air resistance which is responsible for most vehicles fuel consumption.
This improved aerodynamic leads to slanting the windshield thus enlarging its size in height which requires a longer wiper arm with longer wiper blades. This contributes to lower the pressure on the blade as this offers more arm and blade to catch in the wind and create more lift.
The solution
Increase pressure on the wiper blade by adding an external torsion spring to add an optimal pressure on the wiper blade. This spring called Sure Wipe TM is a universal retrofit spring made of stainless steel that installs in seconds. It solves wiper problems at a low cost. It is permanent and install in seconds. It is safe for the wiper motor and the wiper blade as test demonstrated. It makes old and new wipers work as they should.

In resume, there is not enough pressure on the wiper and by adding an additional wiper arm spring; it gives the wiper just enough pressure to perform the good work and give a good visibility at all times while driving.

Ususlly, all you need to do is use a little soap and water and clean the blade.
How many people do that regularly?

I want the same device.

Why??

Because where I live there is only 3G internet. It costs me $180 for 12GB.

I download lots of podcasts. It has become too costly.

I want a simple device I can set to record a radio program to an mp3 file, please!

I had a Russion phone which would do this: it's lying around in pieces, maybe I could fix it to use just as a radio recorder.

I also have an old ghetto blaster; I could insert a cassette, plug it into a household timer, switch it to the ON position, press PLAY and RECORD, and record radio that way. (and yes, remember? the rubber pinch-wheel in the cassette player develops a flat spot when left in the PLAY position, up against the capstan).

There's an Android app which might, if you pay for the Pro Version - and buy yourself a USB TV dongle, and jup through the hoops, record some radio via USB onto your phone.

First, find out what kind of ants you've got: meat ants or sugar ants.

Put out a spoonful of each: sugar and parmesan cheese.

Get some borax. Mix it well with either sugar or parmesan and make a stiff paste. When the paste has dried, break the resultant lump up into granules.

Leave the granules somewhere away from food. (Borax is very slightly poisonous. You don't want to swallow a spoonful or anything).

The ants will take the granules back to their nest. Replenish the granules. The borax will eventually kill the ants and their queen. Be persistent.

Abd you didn't notice the date on the message the idiot was replying to?

You didn't think "I don't remember seeing the original"?

This is a massive threat from google. I don't really know what's going
on, it's one thing to look at old messages but I can't figure out whether
the google idiots are not noticing they are replying to old messages, or
think it doesn't matter. I've seen conflicting views at web forums about
whether it's right to reply to an old message or start a new one, so it's
not like there is a new set of netiquette based on web forums that people
think apply to Usenet via google.

Some google idiot replies to an old message, and it's completely out of
context. The reply means nothing, the original poster is long gone,
either having solved the issue or given up long ago. But then it causes
others who aren't paying attention to reply, and the thread, without any
purpose relives. Chances are good if you go to google and look at the
original thread, there were plenty of answers and there's no need for
anymore, even if the original message wasn't old. But people like to just
chime in without paying attention, so they just mumble away at something
that is irrelevant but also covered in the past.

Or, people are paying so little attention when they reply that they
suggest some new solution, which didn't exist when the original message
was posted. I've seen people pick out old posts and say "use something
newer" and others chime in on that, and nobody notices that the original
message is close to 20 years old, and the solutions available were way
different. And any current solutions don't matter, since the original
poster no longer cares, isn't even reading the newsgroup anymore.

I noticed it, but was responding to the person I responded to. Get it?

The guy was telling people to re-design their wiper arms, and I suggested a
simpler solution to the problem.

I take the wipers off and store them during the hot dry season. I treat
the windshield with Rain-X. the "invisible windshield wiper" and if I
think the rubber on the blade is below par, I scrape it clean.
If it is less than really flexible or it's shredding, I go to my cache
of replacement blades. New blades I sometimes find at yard sales.
trimming them to fit.
Yes, you want to look where you're going.
Oh, you can't assume the other drivers see you. So, I put day-glo tape
on the arms of my wiper blades. Boy, does that get their attention.
Like a third finger waving across my windshield.
And watch out for slick roads. After a dry period the first rain brings
road oils to the surface and it gets pretty slippery. Waiting a half
hour thru the first rain after a dry period. OK>?

I bought some TripLEdge blades for my previous car. They were still
good several years later when I had to junk the car -- with a lot of
OTHER lifetime parts. (This is California, where stupidity is king and
the smog means you replace wiper blades annually.). Not available in
stores any more, you have to buy them by mail order, which I did. In
fine shape after 3 years -- I really don't expect them to wear out.
http://www.thewiperstore.com/tripledge-windshield-wipers.html

I suspect that the Rain-X blades are made of the same stuff and are
available in stores, including WalMart.

How do those things do in the snow? Do they shed it any better?

But, you're a skier aren't you?

The biggest problem I have with wipers is when they get clogged to uselessness
by snow on the way to ski.

Yes, but Brian Head this year is the only non-SoCal skiing I've ever
done, and we stayed inside when it was snowing.

Since I've been going with my friend, she drives her little Honda
<something> sportscar convertible with the top down and the heater on.
She has the fancy soft rubber tires that I've never heard screech no
matter how fast she takes the turns. She says they're worthless in the
rain, though. Or even in dew.

Actually, looking back to pre-1990, I was up at Table Mountain (across
the street from Mountain High) with my Sentra when it started snowing.
I'd never seen snow falling before, it was really pretty. I was hiring
people and was worried about having to drive back home in the snow. One
of the guys I was hiring was the snowplow driver (who did other things
too) who assured me that I would have no problem, and that if there was
more snow than I felt comfy with he'd precede me down the hill. No
problem. I don't think it was snowing when I left.

Stayed inside???? MY favorite times are when it is snowing. I hate it when the
sun comes out and trashes the powder.

One good spray of cascade slush from another car would cure that habit.

Sounds like just what I need here in Seattle. NOT!

No experience. Normal snow quality here is icy corduroy (with holes --
the groomers aren't really religious about eliminating holes) until
maybe 9:30. Then 1.5 hours of really nice snow. Then slush. Best is
when it stayed frozen all night and was groomed after it froze. Few
days like that.

This is SoCal, the roads are generally dry up in the mountains unless
chains are required. That happens only when there's new snow, and our
new snow is NOT powder, although they insist on calling it that. It's
slow and sticky and unpleasant and not worth the trouble of putting on
and taking off the chains and driving 18 miles at 25 mph.

I had a Dunlop K70 (?) made of cling rubber (I don't know if they still
call it that) on my 1960 Ducati, but I never rode that in wet weather
either.

If you follow the system as outlined (without default) you will easily make hundreds of dollars in days which will soon turn into thousands as the system is passed along. This is not a pyramid scheme: it's a simple $6.00 investment that will automatically implement the POWER of compounding without any future investment! So if you're ready to see the money pour in, follow these simple steps below. Remember, do not falter from these steps, integrity and your ability to follow the instructions as written will be the only thing needed to make this successful.

1. Copy, paste & save this entire posting right now. You will need to refer back to it after you've completed these seven steps.

2. Login to PayPal and click on the "Send Money" tab near the top of the screen. PayPal is 100% secure and has also verified this system is legitimate. If you have doubts, stop right now and send them a quick email to verify for you. Your PayPal account must be a premier or business account in order for you to receive your payments as well as send payments. (If you don't have a PayPal account it's free and easy to open one, online)

3. In the "Recipient's Email" field enter the email address (provided in the list below)
4. In the "Amount" field enter "1" (This is your $1.00 payment)

5. Under the tab "What are you sending money for?" select "I'm paying for goods or services" (Keeping it legal)
6. In the "Subject" field type "EMAIL LIST", and in the "Message" field enter "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR EMAIL LIST". By doing this, you are creating a service and maintaining the legality of the system by "paying" for the service.
7. Finally, click on the "Send Money" button to complete the payment. Repeat these steps for each of the 6 email addresses.

That's it: you've now secured your own financial success through this easy system and as previously stated you will reap what you sow!!
Here is the current 2013 Email list. This is the Email list to send $1 to each PayPal account. I stress again do not cheat the system, if you do no one will get paid and you've just wasted your time!

#1) pen4thots1953@yahoo.com

#2) steph.skev@hotmail.com

#3) fortesque70@gmx.com

#4) hunterj7738@gmail.com

#5) switizgirl@gmail.com

#6) sydneyy1031@gmail.com

Now that you've made your investment it's time to experience the money flowing in. If you followed this process as instructed you should have a copy of this article saved on your computer. Retrieve your saved copy of this article now and follow the steps below.

Step 1: Update the email list above. To do so take the #1 email off of the list and move the other addresses up (2 becomes 1, 3 becomes 2, 4 becomes 3, 5 becomes 4) and add YOUR email address (the one used for your PayPal account) as number 6 on the list. This is the only part of the document that should be changed. ** Make sure your email address is the one you have registered with PayPal **

Step 2: Post your modified article to at least 200 free newsgroups or message boards. Keep in mind that there are tens of thousands of groups online all over the globe. PayPal is international, so you can post anywhere across the world, where people will see it! For maximum benefits you should post to at least 200 different boards, but remember the more you post the more money you make - as well as everyone else on the list! You will see money rolling in IMMEDIATELY, but don't stop after a few post, you will be cheating yourself.

Posting to at least 200 groups creates the endurance of your income & success. Use Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, or whatever your internet browser is to search for various news groups, log on to any search engine like yahoo.com or google.com and type in a subject like 'MILLIONAIRE MESSAGE BOARD', 'MONEY MAKING DISCUSSIONS', 'MONEY MAKING FORUMS', or 'BUSINESS MESSAGE BOARD', PAYPAL 6 DOLLAR, OPRAH 6 DOLLAR PAYPAL METHOD. You will find thousands and thousands of message boards. Click them one by one and you will find the option to post a new message. Fill in the subject which will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group, and post the article with the NEW list of email addresses included. THAT'S IT!!! All you have to do is jump to different news groups and post away. After you get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup.
Remember, all of this is ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal Lottery laws.

HOW THE MONEY WORKS:

When you post 200 letters, it is estimated that at least 15 people will respond and send you $1 ($15).
- Those 15 will post 200 letters each and 225 will send $1 ($225).
- Those 225 will post 200 letters each and 3,375 people will send you $1 ($3,375).
- Those 3,375 people will post 200 letters each and 50,625 people will send you $1 (50,625).
- Those 50,625 will post 200 letters each and 749,375 people will send you $1 (749,375).
- At this point your name drops off the list, but so far, you have received $813,615.00.

Most people start investments with the money they earn to secure their financial future, without participating in the list; however you may keep your name on the list for a lifetime. When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the news groups, and send out another $6.00 to Email Addresses using PayPal on the list, putting your name at number 6 again.

Recent evidence has come to light that suggests that pyramid style chain
letters may have pre-dated Dave Rhodes by a considerable margin.
Palaentologists recently deciphered the following, painted on a cave
wall on the slopes of Kilimanjaro.

MAKE SPIKY CLUBS FAST!!!

Hello, not-tribe-member. Urk name Urk. Many moons ago, Urk in bad way.
Urk kicked out of cave by Thag. Thag bigger than Urk, Thag take Urk
spiky club, Urka (Urk wo-man). Urk not able kill deer, must eat leaves,
berries. Urk flee from wolves.

Today, Urk big chief. Urk have best cave, many wives, many spiky clubs.
Urk tell how.

WHAT DO: make one spiky club and take to cave places below. Add own cave
place to bottom of list, take cave place off top. Put new message on
walls many caves. Wait. Many clubs soon come! This not crime! Urk ask
shaman, gods say okay.

HERE LIST:

1) Urk

few) Thag (not that Thag, other Thag)

Urk hope not-tribe-member do what Urk say do. That only way it work.

My pickup is in the shop and I'd like to rent a little car until it's
fixed. I Googled with no review or rate success - many sites say they
supply rates but I can't figure out how to view them.

Any suggestions you've had good luck with? I have no idea how long I'll
need it. Estimated daily rate & milage? In Yuma AZ if it matters.

TIA

Really? Go to HotWire.com . Select rent a car. Tell them you want to pick up a car at Yuma, Az. Rent the car for a week, for best price. Then choose which car you want. After six days or so, if you want to continue renting, you have to do the same routine over. All rentals are unlimited miles.

What I'd like is just a list of US (Yuma?) car rental services with daily
rates. No need to specify dates, etc.

That's not how the car rental biz works. When they have an abundance of cars the price goes down. The prices change daily and I have seen them change hourly.

HotWire and others, allow you to see multiple companies at the same time. Plug in single dates and see what happens. Try tomorrow, and then try the next day. Try Saturday or Sunday. Often one day rental can be nearly the same as a week. Play around until you get a feel for what you want,

With HotWire, you have to pay upfront. Sometimes I will get a price from a site like HotWire, then go to the individual car rental site and find they match the price. Car rental company reservations do not require payment upfront.

doesn't your shop have a special deal with one or more of the local

Evidently not. I didn't ask directly because I was not aware of such
deals but did get refused when I asked for a loaner. Evidetly loaners
are not available like thay used to be. Probably for decades!

Thank you. I was not aware. Haven't rented a car in decades. Guess I'll
have to take what I can get if I decide to get one later - can't plan and
budget ahead as I had hoped.

asking for a referral isn't the same as asking for a loaner...but in my
area, loaners are available at the mercedes dealership

A. Smoking is not frugal, so you could have marked this as OT.
B. Everyone is wrong except you- a sure sign of madness. You could have taken a picture of said coupon and let us see what you were talking about.
C. What did you expect? WalMart is the largest employer of people stuck on welfare. When a newly hired worker is hired, he is given classes on how to apply for food-stamps and how to qualify for State paid child care. Just pay your money and shut up. You want service, you go to a place that offers service.
D. Continue to shop WalMart and your child can hope to continue his education so that he can ask, "Do you want fries with that?", in several languages.
E. I just thought of this; You driving around to use a coupon burned more gas than you 'saved'.

Thanks - you saved me the trouble.

Amazing how many people shop at the store that is most trying to impoverish
people like them, by hiring them, and/or exporting their manufacturing jobs.

Using coupons to save money, particularly coupons which allow the purchase of a $5 product for $1 is frugal also. So I can mark this post whatever I want.

The $4 I saved by using the coupon more than paid for the gas
my electric car used...

Moreover, we also needed an item not in stock at the first store.

Yes, this

But why would I need a mansion when there's all the maintenance and taxes.

In Florida, there are no property taxes associated with living in a camper
trailer. There's just me and my pets so why a big house.

True, there would be vehicle registration fees for my camper trailer: IF I
paid them.

Pictures, man, we need pictures.

A camper huh? All the convenience of being homeless, without the refrigerator box.

there ARE fees for your trailer: not paying them is only viable if you
don't get caught...get caught and you owe all back fees and penalties

and of course it's much easier, legally and physically, to IMPOUND your
trailer
