REPLY: We purchased a Staber in 2000 or 2001. They do need a very solid surface to sit on and they must be level at all times; and they are rather loud, especially when spinning. As long as we followed the instructions that came with it such as using HE detergent at the appropriate amounts and loading the machine appropriately, we had no major problems with the machine doing the job it was meant to do for the first 10 years. We had no problem with customer service. They talked my wife through removing a hairpin from the pump one time and my wife had no problem removing the front, following the instructions and getting the washer going. Our problems began after the machine was over ten years old because they stopped using the parts the parts that were in our machine and did not stock them. You had to send whatever part you were having problems with back to them and they would "recondition" it and send it back to you. Since we cannot live without a washer for an extended period of time, we had to purchase another. We bought a new LG frontload washer & dryer on sale and an extended warranty for same. The new LG pair holds more, has more cycles, is quiet as a mouse and the washer/dryer with a six year extended warranty cost less today than the Staber washer alone cost ten or twelve years ago. By the way, the little cheap dryer I purchased at Best Buy the same time I bought the Staber was given to a friend whose dryer died on her and she's still using it, if that means anything to anyone. (*Hint: Whatever came out of the Staber washer went into that dryer.) I was very disappointed in Staber because I was led to believe the washer would last much longer than other machines. Obviously, they really do not; therefore, I really hate to admit that I would not recommend Staber to anyone. Just go to Lowes, Sears or some other big box store when they're having a sale and get an extended warranty with your appliances. You will spend less and have less hassle.

But most modern TVs don't have a keypad or any means of directly
changing channels more than one up-or-down at a time. Without a remote
control, changing from, say, Channel 13 to Channel 107 would be quite
unpleasant.

Not to mention the other features that exist only in the remote. Life
used to be simpler.

That's another thing, one's big ol' butt sitting on the remote can wreck havoc.

I got a better solution. You're whining about one AA battery that you replace maybe twice a year, costing you somewhat south of two bucks? The best solution would be to put the remote down and wipe the chip grease off your fingers, then stand up and manually change the channel! You don't need to do it every time, but if you did it half the time you'd save that precious AA battery AND you'd get a tad bit of exercise, saving you and society thousands in medical costs. Step away from the chalupa!

Doubtful. Even if such a device exists you'll likely have to replace the battery at least twice as often so I don't know what you'd gain.

If AA batteries are a budget item for you maybe you should look at the batteries, not the remote. My DirecTV remote controls three devices (TV, Genie DVR, and A/V Receiver) and the two AA batteries in it last a year or more. I only use fresh, brand name batteries, not cheap charlie no-names from the dollar store.

Or, get sanyo eneloop or other "pre-charged" low leakage rechargeables.

I've got 4 Duracell precharged for my camera and have been really happy
with them.

Long ago (maybe 2001 or so) I bought my first rechargeables with a
charger on sale. The charger stopped working at some point, so Duracell
sent me a gift certificate for a new charger and batteries. When that
stopped working Duracell sent me a $$ certificate with which I bought
another charger and the 4 precharged batteries. The older batteries
don't hold a charge very long, but I use them in my mouse, which is
pretty convenient.

Duracell has been very good to me, and these batteries have been all
that I expected.

There never were any teeth behind the do-not-call list. Telemarketers
ignore the concept.

I registered online a while back, but you can also try registering by
phone by "calling 1-888-382-1222 from the phone you want to register."

>I get a lot of telemarketing calls.

I started getting more recently, and a feature my land line phone provider
has called "No Solitication" plays a recording telling them to remove my
number from their marketing list and stay on the line if they are not a
marketer has helped a lot. You can exclude certain numbers from the list
and even partial numbers; I entered my state's area codes since all of the
annoying calls were from out-of-state and most of my legitimate incoming
calls are from this state.

When I use to answer the phone for these sumbags and remind
them about the DNC list I instantly got a hang up. But that
didn't stop them from calling again. My ProCaller Block
handles that annoyance now.

Whenever I get an unsolicited call I remind the caller that surly this is not what his/her mother had in mind. I remind the caller there are many of other jobs that pay just as well, that aren't so degrading, and don't carry the bad Karma that bothering people in their homes that soliciting calls carry. I invite the caller to join me in a prayer to have our Lord assist in finding them a better job.

It all takes less than two minutes, and when it comes to spreading some sunshine, two minutes is a small amount of time to spend on a fellow human.

Besides, now I get far fewer calls. When the solicitor ends the call in tears or quits their job before hanging up (as I request), then the supervisors are less likely to allow their employees to call me.

I got a clean installation in xp of the file from here:
<http://eudora.en.softonic.com/download?ex=SWH-1776.1>. Noticed only
one potential gotcha: A prudent person might untick the "premium paid"
(or whatevethehell they call it) option that appears near the end of the
procedure. Be sure to write the file to a CD this time! ;-)

Earlier I tried to DL a Eudora 7 email ap. Google shows lots of sites but
they all - that I tried - send one to the same site. This one tries to
foist off a PDF reader and other stuff. I fooled around for a bit and never
found the DL button just for Eudora. <sigh>

Last time I DLed Eudora 7 for another XP computer several years ago I had
no problems. Guess I'll have to move it from the other computer with a
thumb drive - a DL seemed simpler.

Free software ain't what it used to be.
