Actually, it does. Since uninsured illegals use public hospitals, public
defenders, etc., doctors and lawyers and other professionals have to do a lot of
pro bono and/or low-compensation work that uses up time they could otherwise
devote to higher-paid work.

Perhaps in the area of unskilled labor, but that's about all. A
significant pool to be sure, but not as critical to the overall
economic picture as some would have us believe. Every job in this
country has a market clearing price, which can vary considerably
depending on where it is. Employers who want to stay in business
can't pay more than that, and employees who want to keep their jobs
better not expect more than that. Unless you have some sort of hard
to find technical or professional skill set, that these illegals
simply don't possess, telling your boss you're going somewhere else if
you don't get a raise will result in unemployment. Doesn't have
anything to do, in my opinion, with their status.

I never said it was black and white, I said everyone is affected to a
*degree* depending on how close they are to the job market that the illegals
work. Lawyers are so distant that the effect is not noticable, obviously.
Farmworkers are affected more than anyone else because they are right in the
labor market affected. Those are the two ends of the spectrum. Everyone in
between is affected more or less depending on where they are in the market.
You cant take a section of the labor market away without affecting the rest
of the labor market.

Combine 1-1/4c ketchup (small bottle), 1c vinegar, 1/4c brown sugar,
1/4c honey, 1/3c oil, 3 minced/crushed cloves garlic, 2t salt. Simmer
over low heat for 30 min.

(I think this has more sugar than the original recipe, because my
husband prefers a sweet sauce.)

Running along the same lines... I used to save about $1 during lunch
when I was a starving student at the campus cafeteria by getting the
"lightest" salad ingredients (different types of lettuce, spinach,
mushrooms) and then making my own Thousand Island dressing with the
free catsup, mayonnaise and pickle relish packets from the condiment
stand, mixing into a small foam coffee cup. :)

Additionally, when I started working the company cafeteria would
charge .75¢ for a spoon of brown sugar in your oatmeal or cream of
wheat....but had the unrefined "raw" sugar (almost brown) on the
condiment stand for free. Every nickel and dime adds up, eventually.

they personally did not free the shifter.

Good idea, but we have a grey fox that I've seen slinking out back,
and some wandering dogs, and the sounds of coyotes some nights. For
now, a single pest-proof coop that is visible from the house will be
the priority. The garden is up and on the other side of the road.

With the price of gas and thin finances, we haven't been out much.

If I dare take the cargo trailer into Huntsville, that could be a
possibility. It has been set aside for the most of the winter. I
just hooked it up to find a replacement for the lawn tractor, but
prices were high for relatively cheaply built Murray mowers. Ended up
getting a used motor for $100, and waiting for the right tractor
deal.* Now wish me luck on hooking it up.

I know what I would like, but can't afford, even used. A Kubota BX23.
Perfect for the digging I have left to do and setting corner posts for
the fences.

Mrs. Chickpea has been staying in the pod for the past few months as
well, now that her master gardener course is over and money is
tighter. I've had to hit Harbor Freight a couple of times, and we've
picked some stuff up at the Publix, but other than that both been
homebodies. With the garden needing to be started, and getting the
winter creaks out of the bones, we'll see.

Hey everyone,

I have been trying to clean the inside of my car for a couple of days
now between work hours. The carpet is the worst part seeing there is a
lot of dirt spots that I just can't get out. I tried everything,
(Cleansers, Spot Removers, Shampoo). I am more concered about the
seats tho, I read from another board saying I should use some shampoo
and mix with some water and use a wash mitt to apply it on. Well one
seat actually came out pretty good, but the annoyance I am having is
with wet spots that show up after its dried. I don't want to keep
applying soap or chemicals to it and damage it.

Any advice would be helpful.

I don't know where you're located, but in New York, it doesn't matter
whether you have collision or not, if you're not the one at fault. If you
get rear-ended or broad-sided (other guy ran the light, etc.) then the
guilty party's insurance repairs or replaces your car, regardless of what
type of insurance you have. However, if you cause an accident and you don't
have collision on your own car, then insurance will not pay to replace it.
I've never had collision since I only buy old used cars and only drive about
3k miles a year. When I got rear-ended (I was stopped at a light) the other
guy's insurance had to pony up $4k to fix my car. That was funny, because
I'd only paid $3k for it a few months before, although the book value was
$5k. Whatever, it got fixed and I didn't even have to pay the deductible,
the other guy did.
