I am jealous as well. I have the land, the room - but not the health to
reliably take care of any animals. But I do want chickens. Maybe next
year.

I think they are about 14 weeks old. Three are about market size,
maybe 4 lbs dressed, the rest are smaller. Not really runts, because
those get culled early on, just not as fast at growing. The
appearance isn't great; they are dirty and most have some feathers
missing, but that'll change over time. The females may get to a point
where they start laying, not sure how many are roos since they are
young.

I've been constructing a chicken tractor today. This first one is
taking a surprising amount of time to design and build, since I'm
partly working out design issues as I build, and I've been doing lap
joints without the proper tools. I'm trying to keep construction
materials cost as low as possible without resorting to scrap wood. I
have hopes that I'll be able to make up a set of plans, or even market
kits or complete units to folks in the general area.

All the birds survived the first night in the trailer. They had water
and food, both of which were used. There was a start of chirping off
and on, since they are getting over the stress of the move. We'll see
how this goes, since it is a learning experience. I have used
hardware cloth instead of poultry netting to limit predators. Hawks,
buzzards, owls, fox, coyote, dogs. If I lose birds, I'll enclose the
base of the tractor.

The medical stuff doesnt have anything that will harm humans in it when breathed.

No, he's correct. There are actually three types of oxygen: welding,
medical, and aviation. Back in the distant past the medical and
aviation oxygens were made in a manner that didn't allow contaminants
to flow into the final bottle but now they're all produced from the
same liquid oxygen, just decanted into the different containers and
charged at a different price. Go to a welding supply company that
fills the bottles (medical and welding) and they'll tell you (and if
cooperative, show you) that it all comes from the same liquid oxygen
tanks.

Of course the valves and even the threads on the bottles are
different.

Nope.

Its stupid to claim that there is no difference between medical oxygen and welding oxygen except the price.

So even you admit that there is a difference even now.

Pity that there is more involved than just the source.

And the containers are different too.

Presumably, one is certified for human consumption, the other is not.

If you need medicinal oxygen on an ongoing basis, get one of the in-home
oxygen generators.

The only advantage to a concentrator is that it might qualify you for a
discount on your electricity bill...The big disadvantage to a concentrator is
you are SOL when the electricity fails.

Liquid oxy is quiet and very pure, and if you have a portable, they are
refillable from the big tanks.

I'm thinking abt not using box springs period anymore

Tempurpedic and some memory foam clones have changed, from what I
understand, such that they do not hold in heat.

Yes, pretty damned poor.

The point being that, no matter what the policy of this company, no matter
how honest, upstanding, and well intentioned they may be, now and
indefinitely far into the future, the details of your financial life could
be up for grabs and end up in the hands of anyone who can afford a good
enough lawyer.

Refrigerate soft, cool hard.

Hard cheese will continue to cure and get sharper at cool temps. Soft
cheese will just mold or droop.

You ,as an individual. pay more than $100 for landline, cell and
internet access. Find a company offering two or all three at a combo rate.

You pay for travelers checks. Better to get them free at AAA or, even
better, use a debit card on trips.

You pay 25 cents a gallon more at a brand name station than at no name
place across the street.

You pay an extra fee for concert and sporting events which have you go
to Will Call when you can print the tickets at home.

Firstly, commercial SPAM is prohibited by the charter of this newsgroup
and secondly, eBay prohibits spamming auctions.

If ebay receives enough complaints, you'll lose your eBay account.

Thirdly, with a pathetic feedback rating of 95.7%, no one in their
right mind should ever consider buying from your site. Classic
powerseller preying on the naive.

The Egyptians could have got right angles without using math. Lay out a
rectangle and measure that the opposite corners in each direction are the
same distance.

i am SO JEALOUS. i wish i could have chickens. I like chickens; grew
up with all sorts of poultry.

I'm sure your birds will perk right up over the next few weeks; quite a
bit, too.

My better half and i visit one of the live poultry stores in town every
month or so pick out a nice old Rhode Island Red spent hen (aka stew
hen) for chicken and dumplings. soo delicious, and something you Just
Can't Get at a grocery store. Such good eggs you'll get, too ( maybe ).

really -- I'm so jealous!

I live in the city and my neighbor had free range chickens (layers). Not
so oddly, they disappeared one at a time.

I did learn the answer to that age old question: Why does a chicken
cross the road?

It doesn't care...

I think it is more the breeding. The broiler house they came from is
huge, about a football field and a half long, and I'd guess about
seventy feet wide. The chickens had free run of that entire space.

That helps a bit. So these are the "seconds" you're getting...I take
it based on your post they aren't layers? Or are they still young
enough to produce eggs?

i'm not sure what they offer, but if it's on the net it is less secure
than if you are using a program on your computer. i do use internet
banking, but at the bank's site only. i would never give my bank
information to any third party.

are your finances so complex that you really need this?

No way, just consider how it does:

Missed this, think about how it can't retrieve your data but can analyze
all of your transactions, seems like they brought Miss Cleo out of
retirement :

"...and can't retrieve that data. Once I signed up and entered the
log-in info for my bank account and credit cards, the service combed
through my financial information and displayed my assets and debts in
total and for each account, categorized my transactions, set up budgets..."

I got a call yesterday from a spoofed Caller ID number offering to
consolidate my credit card debt. I played along and after I assured
myself they had no idea what number they were calling I spent several
minutes giving them completely false information. I could hear the
excitement in the callers voice as he anticipated a reward. It ended this
way:

"I imagine a lot of people are rude or hang up the phone when you call"

"yes"

"Do you realize that those people are doing you a favor because it
allows you to move on to the next victim? Your worst enemy is someone
like me who knows at the start that you are engaged in fraud ,identity
theft and violating the Do Not Call law and therefore wastes your time
with bogus information"

"(long rant involving at least 5 of of the 7 words banned by the FCC
followed by slamming down the phone).

TOPIC: Mattresses: Latex, wool, experiences?

==============================================================================

Hi all,

I've always had innerspring mattresses and it's time for a new one.
I'm considering a latex mattress for the following reasons:

1) Longevity
2) Relatively affordable, if bought from online dealers
3) Configurable firmness levels (can layer medium over firm or switch
layers, for example)
4) Could have different firmness levels for hubby and me
5) Separation of movement between hubby and me

I'm looking for first hand experience with latex mattresses,
especially over a good number of years.

If you've tried a latex mattress before, can you tell me:

- How has it held up over the years? I can't find much (even in this
group) about 5+ years experience. If it's formed body impressions, and
you don't mind answering, do you consider yourself a heavy person? My
husband and I are each about average.
- Did you find it retains body heat more than an innerspring mattress?
My husband sleeps hot. If you've found latex to be hotter, does your
latex foam have the pinholes in it? Do you know if it was made with
the Dunlop or Talalay process?

If you've tried a wool mattress topper, does it really keep you cooler
in the summer? Bonus points for if you've tried a wool topper over a
latex mattress or mattress pad. I'm concerned a latex mattress or
topper would make my husband sleep hotter and wonder if a good wool
topper could negate that. Wool could also be a more comfortable
surface to sleep on, under sheets of course. I believe buying latex
mattress components online plus a good wool mattress topper would
still save us money over buying a name brand mattress from a
traditional source, while potentially giving us better sleep and for a
longer period of time.

Thank you,
JP
