Ever wonder why his words (staunchly defending everything Chinese)

Hi:

To all respective forum readers, please take notice:

1) First of all, my apologies for such a wide off-topic cross-
posting. It's unusual, and very frowned upon. But I deem it
necessary in lieu of recent events. You can just disregard if you
will.

2) There is a user on the net who has impersonated "Don Klipstein",
me, as well as other respectable Usenet posters. He/she is using our
names, email addresses, and profiles to post nonsense on Usenet
newsgroups. This impersonator seems to be located either in Burma or
Korea and has the IP address of 218.234.77.254.

3) Doing a WHOIS checkup on 218.234.77.254 locates the source to be in
Seoul, Korea:

Nope. Pentium II came out in may 1997. The Deschutes core which ran
speeds of 300+ didn't come out till 1998.

Are you sure about that date?
In 1994 I was using a brand new 486DX2-100.
This article indicates the P-II 333 was to come out in Jan 1998.

Next Pentium II due this month

Some of you are missing the point.

These are discussion newsgroups, they aren't read only bulletin boards
at the grocery stores.

Hence, any post should in fact be discussion, not some pointer to
elsewhere.

It's fine to use a link to reference something, and then discuss it
in the post. It's fine to point to something as a response to a question,
but even then I don't think much of people who don't bother saying
anything other than the link.

Unlike so many newcomers, I don't use a browser to read newsgroups.
At the very least, if I want to check out a link, I have to cut
and paste. But if the poster can't even be literate enough to
say something about the link, such as why I should go and look,
then I don't bother.

Like I said, such link posting may not be "spam" but it usually
is from someone making a drive by in the newsgroup, who isn't
really interested in the newsgroup but is interested in promoting
their website. But it is indeed the same sort of tactic of the
spammer.

Michael

Nope, you did.

And that post did generate quite a bit of discussion fine.

No one ever said they are.

Mindlessly silly. Its perfectly acceptible to post a link that produces
a discussion and is in fact the legal way to do it copyright wise.

And its fine to post a link to initiate a discussion of the point in the link.

You have always been, and always will be, completely and utterly irrelevant.

What you might or might not claim to think in spades.

Neither do most who responded to the OP.

> At the very least, if I want to check out a link, I have to cut and paste.

Then you need to get a better newsgroup reader.

You have always been, and always will be, completely and utterly irrelevant.

What you might or might not claim to bother about in spades.

Corse it isnt, its just someone else's style/approach.

It clearly isnt in this particular case.

It clearly isnt in this particular case and that should be obvious from the link posted.

Pity that it aint spam anyway.

Yeah, that's courtesy of my wonderful State - MA. They had the two
"inventors" on WBZ 1030 AM a couple weeks back and that had to be the
most surreal talk show segment I ever heard on that station. I was
surprised at the number of callers who thought this was the greatest
idea since sliced bread, while totally side stepping the issue about why
anyone "needed" to think up an idea like this. (Let alone the limited
practically of the concept.) To be noted the inventors own and run a
"sporting goods shop." Translates: "We sell stuff that shoots people."
The made it quite plain they weren't talking about an Eastern Mountain
Sports... And they actually said at one point "Well the real solution
would be to provide children with guns to defend themselves. But since
we can't do that we came up with this as the next best thing."

Lot of restrictions on the bullet proof back pack. Yes, you have to
check to see if any given school will even allow it. No, it cannot be
brought on air lines as carry on luggage. Etc.

Back to the topic at hand: Frugal? Hell no. IIRC it runs about $175.00

My experience was that Jansport DOES honor their warranty, without any
tricks to stop you from using it.

I had the zipper on a pack replaced at least 3 times, for free. I'd
rather they just improved the zippers, but short of that, I was glad
Jansport lived up to their warranty. I'm using an LL Bean right now,
but Jansport is definitely on my short list.

If you are mostly wanting it for cooking, try using powdered buttermilk. It
is similar to powdered milk, and stores for years. You can buy it in bulk,
up to 50 pound bags.

We've been thinking of changing auto clubs from AAA due to the
costs/benefit ratio becoming longer over the years. Over $120 is just
too much to pay per year for what we get in return.

I've checked on the net and

http://www.allamericaroadside.org/services/index.html
seems like a good deal. A lot of upstart auto clubs are using the
same consolodator out of Boca Raton to provide dispatch, so I don't
think there is much difference in basic service between them. Anyone
use a non-standard auto club, and what has your experience been?

I was quite happy buying the towing/disablement option on my car
insurance. It was something ridiculous, like 3 bucks for each car.
I used it once and it worked fine.

My wife has a thing for AAA though. She pays for it, so I don't argue
over it with her.

Looking at that all-american site, I'd be wary of that "towing to nearest
repair facility". Around here you're always within a couple of miles
of a repair facility. But not necessarily one I'd choose to go to.

Mine has been as well, but she realized, when we almost maxed out the
service calls during the move, that AAA wasn't cutting it.

I was concerned as well, until I read that it allows for a facility of
your choice within 25 miles of that facility.

Might be worth checking with your local BBB about both AAA and "that
other place" to see if any complaints have been filed. AAA has worked
very well for us over the years. Still consider it cheap insurance even
at the current prices.

Have you checked their car / home insurance? For us, they essentially
pay us for our membership considering the cost savings vs. other companies.

If you're not using their maps and tourbooks, it's def not worth it.
The towing coverage is sorta like buying extended warranty, generally
a bad deal...

I've never been a member of an auto club like that primarily because
I haven't really been able to see the value in it. My approach has
always been to simply try to maintain a reliable car, learn to fix
anything obvious (like a flat tire or a dead battery), and pay for
towing on the few occasions when it's needed. In about 20 years of
driving, I've only truly *needed* my car towed perhaps 5 times,
maybe 10 times at the very most. It seems better to just bank the
money and pay for it yourself when it happens.

But, maybe I've just been lucky, or maybe it's just about hassle
factor? I suppose I could see that.

- Logan

Like all energy companys,
my gas company has been urging customers to CONSERVE.

Now, they're looking for a rate increase.
WHY ?
Since Customers have been conserving.
The amount of gas sold doesn't cover their operating expenses.
ergo... raise the rates for it !!
