Maybe is dead for now, but as resources become more scarce, nations
and warlords will fight it out to the bitter end, not unlike Easter
Island... "As the island became increasingly overpopulated and
resources diminished, warriors matatoa gained more power"...

Meanwhile the idea of a supernatural solution will become more
appealing to the masses...

Or maybe we'll just go down in some nuclear holocaust, making it
easier.

=v= The most simple down-to-earth vehicle ever is the bicycle.

=v= It's misleading -- sometimes dangerously so -- to give
political leaders credit and glory for work that others did.
Hitler didn't "give birth to" the Volkswagen, nor did Mussolini
make the trains run on time.

=v= THE FACT IS, due to economic hard times there were a
number of "people's car" projects going on in the Weimar era.
Ferdinand Porsche's design for the classic Beetle (for which
he was paid by Hitler) was similar to other designs of the
era, but also somewhat better. The Nazis also built the
Volkswagen factory, but immediately dedicated it to building
military vehicles. Numerous Germans put their money into a
payment plan to get a Volkswagen, but none of them got one
while Hitler was in power.

=v= It wasn't until the British occupation that people were able
to get Beetles. While they looked old-fashioned for the time,
it was at this point -- well after Hitler's death -- that the
most crucial design decision was made: to *not* change the car
every year for fashion reasons. This made it possible to use
parts from any year with cars from any other year, and that's
what made the car so "down-to-earth" and successful.

Beyond 5 miles, a simple car starts making sense. We are comparing
pears and apples. The bicycle is the most simple.

Hitler was an asshole, a criminal, a madman, but the DEMOCRACY IS FULL
OF DECEIT AND ONLY CONCERNED ABOUT MONEY.

Solution?

The most simple down to earth vehicle is your legs.

> It's misleading -- sometimes dangerously so -- to

Yes he did in the sense that without state funding of that operation, it wouldnt have happened.

> nor did Mussolini make the trains run on time.

Yes he did, essentially because he made his minions do it that way.

> THE FACT IS, due to economic hard times there were a
> number of "people's car" projects going on in the Weimar era.

Yes, but none of them except the VW got state funding.

> Ferdinand Porsche's design for the classic
> Beetle (for which he was paid by Hitler)

And would not have happened without Hitler paying for him to do that.

> was similar to other designs of the era,

Like hell it was.

> but also somewhat better. The Nazis also built the Volkswagen factory,

So that project would not have happened without that.

> but immediately dedicated it to building military vehicles.

Doesnt matter, without that initial funding, it wouldnt have
been produced that way after the war had ended.

> Numerous Germans put their money into a payment plan to get
> a Volkswagen, but none of them got one while Hitler was in power.

But did after the war had ended.

> It wasn't until the British occupation that people were able to get Beetles.

Irrelevant to what wouldnt have happened without Hitler.

> While they looked old-fashioned for the time,

No they didnt compared with say the Morris Minor etc.

> it was at this point -- well after Hitler's death -- that

That was just a detail, not a fundamental part of the design.

> This made it possible to use parts from any year with cars from any other
> year, and that's what made the car so "down-to-earth" and successful.

Wrong. It was successful because it was a much better design
than the other low end vehicles of that time like the Fiat and Morris etc.

Its design left the Fiat 500 and the Morris Minor for dead.

And I have owned all of those.

Ask me if I care...those south western states were tacked on in our

*****

Arizona was the last of the 48 states admitted into the union. That was on
Feb. 14, 1912.

http://www.50states.com/arizona.htm

So that "...in our life time" puts you at 98 years old or older.
Congratulations! Not many of us even in these days get to reach that age.
Hang on for another couple of years and you'll make the century mark, if you
already are not there.

And knowing a couple of folks in their early 90's, I must say that you are
also among the few that age on the internet. That too deserves recognition
of one kind or another.

That's what we said about the Indians and they were here first. Come

Mexicans in Arizona.

That's the same thing they said about the Irish, about the Chinese,
about the Vietnamese who arrive here. Its a standard line for red
neck , white trash. I think there should be a fence between the
United States and Texas, NM and AZ....sand piles , rocks and lizards.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: all of America's
problems can be traced to an indiscriminate immigration policy on the
part of the America Indian.

Perfect reponse mg....The good nature of the American natives was
quickly abused, as they were shoved into concentration camps by the
good ole white christians from Europe.

We did it to the Indians, Hitler did it to the Jews, the Jews are
doing it to the Palistians, and now were blaming the Mexicans.

The US is a representative democracy, or at least it is supposed to be.

And China is a People's Republic and every country has some sort of
democratic, colorful elections.

The problem is the representatives become a class in itself, where
they develop more loyalty to the their own survival in the political
jungle, than to the electorate that seems to be betrayed every time.
Half the people even bother, so a quarter of committed citizens vote
over issues that have little to do with the environment or alternative
transportation.

But some countries seem to be doing much better at that game in favor
of the little fish, so we are still waiting for a miracle.

All I got to do is keep one idiot from buying Toyota and they will pay
by the Laws of Karma.

Besides my wisdom is spread out toward other issues useful to Toyota
and non Toyota owners.

Did you know we have a lot to gain by abandoning the Darwinistic
approach (law of the jungle) on our roads? Drivers of little smart
cars, scooters, cyclists --even pedestrians-- should appreciate that.

This would seem almost like a trivia fact. Who could have said that
the Devil himself is part of the Kyoto Protocol. What an evil thing to
do, even signed by the Supreme People's Assembly (the equivalent of
Congress here)...

SEOUL, Nov. 20 (Yonhap) -- North Korea has joined an international
treaty aimed at curbing emissions of greenhouse gases, a South Korean
government official said. The official said on Saturday, on condition
of anonymity, that the North, which had acceded to the Kyoto Protocol
on global warming on April 27, appears to be stepping up efforts to
conform with the pact. North Korea has had the Supreme People's
Assembly, its parliament, ratify the pact and is expected to send its
delegation to a United Nations...

Do you think they go around in SUVs or bicycles there? We may never
know.

Listen brother, they have too few calories, and we have too much.

Solution? Ride a bike!
