I've got water faucets and ice cube trays. I don't think I made any
ice last summer, but I could be wrong.

I didn't break it! It was doing that before I broke it... er...

I've been having a similar problem finding a refrigerator
with the freezer on TOP and at least 23 cu. ft.

The models I've found are few and don't even have the few
features of my current GE top-freezer fridge. The door shelves
are too small to put a gallon jug and the vegetable bins are
so small I'd be hard-pressed to fit a bag of potatoes in them.

No shelf in the freezer section for ice cube trays either. I
rarely make ice, but use the shelf for a quarter sheet pan when
freezing cookie dough or cupcakes.

While my current fridge is making noises like a motorboat,
I ended up finding after years of searching a compact size
freezer (5.9 cu. ft.) with a small footprint that is at least
keeping my ice cream from melting while I continue to search
for the elusive top-freezer refrigerator.

I've had two Whirlpools, both of which had numerous problems,
so anything by that company is out of contention.

It seems there are lots of options for cheaply made, smaller
refrigerators and lots of mega-fridges with loads of (mostly
useless, IMO) features for thousands of dollars, but not much
in the mid-range in size or features.

Why does it seem that the manufacturers are not listening to
the consumer when they design these things?

Nyssa, who is wondering what will happen when the current
motor-boating fridge finally gasps its last with no acceptable
replacement in sight

Same here and I find it no hardship to fill up those ice trays. But I haven't
made any ice in about 5 months but probably will once summer arrives.

I know Home Depot and Lowe's offer the top freezer models but I don't know
if those shown have the features you want. IF and WHEN my refrigerator
does die I've decided it's bottom freezer for me. That squatting and/or
bending to find something on the bottom shelf pushed to the back is killing
my knees.

Think about it. You're in your refrigerator many more times a day than you
are in your freezer.

Good luck in your search!!

We have a Whirlpool refigerator with an ice maker. We use a lot of
ice, so the ice maker is a great convenience - I hate dealing with ice
cube trays. The water supply nozzle that fills the ice maker freezes
up about 3-4 times a year. It is a simple job to take it out to unclog
it - loosen three screws and unplug an electrical connector. The
upside is that it also forces us to clean out/organize the freezer
compartment on a regular basis.

I've bought a couple Sharks (full upright and smaller "sweeper") at
Costco. They work well for me.
