Same here. I shop the items on sale every week. Good source also the day
old bread racks (if you're going to use it within a few days) and the
surplus veggie/fruit rack (also if you're going to use it within a few
days). And coupons. Really use them when item is on sale and I can stock
up.

The small garden helps as well - especially for greens.

Yeah, me too.

I dont eat commercial bread, do my own with a bread machine and save heaps that way.

Healthier bread too.

I also make my own beer and that saves heaps.

Yeah, I buy that stuff as long as it looks fine.

We dont have that many coupons, I do use them when they are good value.

I dont bother with that.

No kidding. It takes some serious eating to get to 500 Kg...

Who is paying for all that food? If it was me she would never get to 100 Kg, let alone
500.

And if you were her, you wouldn't be able to get below 100
Kgs.

I would lay odds that she has some serious water retention
problems, too. Gee, I wonder who paid for all that water?

As was already mentioned, a product labeled "flushable" is much different
from one labeled "septic safe". Unless you like wasting your time and
money.

First, I have no special background or expertise in this area. I have
observed some things along the way though. All my life I have heard
that you should make kids work for things and not give them too much.
There's even a book out named something like that. "Don't give your
kids too much." What I have seen is that at least in many cases, it
works just the opposite. Kids that are given all kinds of things early
like the games, computers, TVs and even cars, want to continue that
lifestyle for themselves. If the parents demonstrate that they have to
produce on their own to have these things later, those kids can work
hard at school, go to college and be very successful early. They have
high aspirations and will accept nothing less than success. Other kids
that are given nothing tend to work only to a certain level and be
happy with a lower living standard.

Bill Gates was not an overweight mouth-breather. I don't think he did
many dishes or cut the lawn either.

My parents were children of the Depression, laziness was not
tolerated. Spending money had to be earned, and too much TV time led
to a suspension of the priviledge. Failure to do chores led to
consequences, and lying, cheating, and stealing would be paid with
corporal punishment and a public apology with restitution to the
victim. We were sent outdoors to play, and made to ride bicycles and
walk rather than be chauffered around (a practical thing in S.
California). I thank God for parents like that.-Jitney

... I have a thyroid problem. I control what I eat. A thyroid problem

Same here - moreover, when I was hypo I was never/seldom hungry. Getting fat without
eating was a nightmare.

Granted, free healthcare is not just enjoyed by the upper class, but
whereas most upper class enjoy tax free, essentially free / highly
subsidized heathcare, most lower classes are forced to purchase their
healthcare via post tax dollars.

Medical care itself is not income, but the $10-15k coverage commonly
provided tax free is equivalent to income.

It's a generous subsidy (essentially welfare), primarily enjoyed by the
more highly paid.

Goodness, if it weren't for perks like that, what would be the point
of
getting an education and improving oneself? Let's all slide down to
the
least common denominator just so that everything will be fair.

So subsidies are OK for those who in the upper class, but subsidies for
those in the lower income brackets are welfare.

I get it.

You get a lot more choice about what you spend one hell of a chunk of your 'life' doing.

You can't be waddling around, blown up like the Bullwinkle float in
The Macy's Parade and calling yourself fit at the same time. She's
obviously not exercising enough to deal with the cookies, peanut
butter M&M's, Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby and Double bacon and cheese
Whoppers that must surely be lurking around in her "diet." "Eating
routine" is probably a more accurate term than "diet," since she's not
even trying to diet. You don't just get John Candy fat without people
knowing you by your first name down at the Dairy Queen. There has to
be slack either on the eating side or the moving around side. It's
obviously both in her case, even though I'm not really faulting her
for being a disgusting butterball. We live in a land where fattening
food is widely, easily available and usually pretty damned cheap. It's
easy to succumb to temptation. In some cases over and over and over
again, obviously. But we should keep the term "Fit" out of this. She's
obviously making pretty regular trips to Bob Evans, The Outback
Steakhouse or someplace(s) that are nullifying whatever limited good
those trips to the gym are doing her. She's a tub and there's no
getting around it.

She's not fit. Let's not delude ourselves, that's all I'm saying.

If there was a 100 meter freestyle with a huge Fishermans Platter,
hushpuppies, slaw and a two liter bottle of ice cold Pepsi waiting at
the end, she'd beat Michael Phelps like a redheaded stepchild.

Nope. When she revealed that the offer was for $21.95, I advised her
that the online offer was $19.95 with first month free.

At that point she copped an attitude.

They offered a lower price on line for the do it yourself version where
you enter your own order. I don't see any particular problem about them
passing on the savings to you.

From reading this thread it really sounds like you have overthought a
routine everyday thing that works well for millions of users especially
since you have 30 days to just put the modem back in the box and quit
with no cost. This isn't like you are going to have say a surgical
procedure where some irreversible state will exist after the procedure.

I don't either.

Probably right.

But if newsgroups are to inform, I'll ask questions as I see fit, even
though they are stupid to those of you who are technologically-savvy.

In another group, I answer medico-legal questions about a govt.
disability program in which I had 30 years experience.

Some people repeat their questions, and some questions seem so basic,
but I don't consider any sincere question as being stupid.

If you don't like my questions, just ignore any posts from "Jack."

Unlike you, I learned about it *here*. These folks seem to know what they are talking
about (most of the time).

You were clearly born in one and know nothing more.
