A hurricane passed by here in 2004 (IIRC) after which the only cellular service working was Verizon but the copper landline was fully functional and would power "old fashioned" telephones. A hurricane passed pretty close by in 2017 and once again the only cellular service working was Verizon and my neighbor's backup battery for his FiOS DAC lasted almost an hour of standby time. >Nyssa, who doesn't trust a cell phone during a long power >outage either Wife and I have two. They take PayPal, which is nice since I don't have to fork over a credit card number. I make few long distance calls, so the biggest problem is to get in that one-call-every-six-months bit, but luckily OneSuite emails you a notification two weeks before your account will expire, so I know to make a quick call to an out of state friend.
