You have to question any article that states that the SS Trust Fund
began in 1983. And some of the "change" is just pure BS, like that
in 2020 the cost of living increase will be small because of low
inflation. It's been low for years already because of low inflation,
because, well, that's what it's supposed to reflect and offset.

If you have no place to eat/prepare food at work, and no subsidised
restaurant, it can soon add up.

Pack lunches at his desk I suppose, maybe . . .

sorry but if you check all the research data on laptops, the average
lifespan before needing repairs is about 1-3 years. They are commercial
JUNK, built to fail and make you buy a new one. That is why I have
concluded that only the data is valuable, the machine is a throw away.

Eating budget sounded reasonable to me. $350 a month on restaurants for a couple. Why he's paying $100 for a phone plan through his mother, idk, you can get an individual unlimited plan for half that.

Yes, if you keep it in the closet. Average life of laptop these days is
1-3 years before needing repairs.

I've been lucky; I average about 5-7 years on mine. Now that I've bragged
on the length of time mine lasts it will die for sure tomorrow!

Wondering if it's possible to buy a GOOD laptop, that is good for 10 years,
for 1000 USD? Last one I had like that was a Compaq with all the latest
bells and whistles. It lasted over 10 years, but cost like $3000.

Yes. You can buy a good laptop for $800 these days. If you don't drop
it, it should last 10 years.

There are plenty for half that price, unless you want an Apple. If you're
just using it mostly for the web and similar, I'd be looking in that
range. I find myself using my phone a lot more than the PC. Which
is one reason PC sales peaked years ago.

as I want to be. Where I live I get all four seasons and as a rule, winters
are not harsh.

I sure can; covered 2 emergency expenses in two day that were over $550. I
don't like these expenses but that's the breaks when you're a home owner.

I am already ridiculously unbalanced and I am only in my 40's. Bad back and blown out right ear have me tripping over my own feet all day.
